Η λημματογράφηση στη Wikipedia χρησιμοποιείται, τα τελευταία χρόνια, ως καλή πρακτική στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία. Η εισαγωγή ενός μεταφραστικού εργαλείου οδηγεί σε ενδιαφέρουσες εναλλακτικές προσεγγίσεις αφού δίνει τη δυνατότητα σε εκπαιδευόμενους και εκπαιδευτικούς να το αξιοποιήσουν στη λημματογράφηση. Σ' αυτή την εργασία κάνουμε μια ανασκόπηση της εξέλιξης της μηχανικής μετάφρασης στο πέρασμα του χρόνου και συγκρίνουμε το τρόπο λειτουργίας του μεταφραστικού εργαλείου της Wikipedia σε σχέση με τα αντίστοιχα επαγγελματικά εργαλεία. Στη συνέχεια προχωράμε σε μια επιγραμματική καταγραφή από την εμπειρία χρήσης του εργαλείου στη λημματογράφηση σε εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα στη δευτεροβάθμια και την τριτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και στο εξωτερικό. Όπως πολλοί θεωρητικοί της μετάφρασης και της γλωσσολογίας υποστηρίζουν η σχέση μεταξύ των δύο κλάδων είναι αμφίδρομη. Ενδεικτικά, οι Vinay και Darbelnet υποστήριξαν ότι η μεταφραστική θεωρία βασίζεται στην εφαρμοσμένη γλωσσολογία (Vinay & Darbelnet, 1958) ενώ ο Γάλλος γλωσσολόγος Mounin τόνισε ότι «στη βάση κάθε μεταφραστικής διαδικασίας βρίσκονται μια σειρά από αναλύσεις και διεργασίες που άπτονται της γλωσσολογίας και η επιστήμη της γλωσσολογίας, ορθά εφαρμοσμένη, μπορεί να προσφέρει [στη μετάφραση] πολύ περισσότερα από όσα μια οποιαδήποτε εμπειρική προσέγγιση» (Mounin, 1963) Η μηχανική (αυτόματη) μετάφραση είναι η γλωσσική επεξεργασία κατά την οποία το περιεχόμενο της γλώσσας-πηγή (ΓΠ) μεταφέρεται στη γλώσσα-στόχο (ΓΣ) μέσω υπολογιστικών συστημάτων με τη χρήση λογισμικού. Άπτεται του κλάδου της υπολογιστικής γλωσσολογίας, δηλαδή του τομέα εκείνου της γλωσσολογίας που προσεγγίζει τη φυσική γλώσσα μέσα από μια υπολογιστική σκοπιά και χρησιμοποιεί τεχνικές, εργαλεία και εφαρμογές με στόχο τη δημιουργία λογισμικού για την κατανόηση και την επεξεργασία των γλωσσικών μοντέλων.

As the number of Internet and mobile phone users grow, texting and chatting have become popular means of communication. Reaching new heights, the extensive use of cellphones and Internet led into the creation of a new language, where words are transformed and made shorter using various styles. Shortcut texting is used in informal venues such as SMS, online, chat rooms, forums and posts in social networks. Huge amounts of data originating from these informal sources can be utilized for various tasks in machine learning and data analytics. As these data may be written in shortcut forms, text normalization is necessary before NLP actions such as information extraction, data mining, text summarization, opinion classification, and even bilingual translations can be fully achieved, by acting as a preprocessing stage that transforms all informal texts back to their original and more understandable forms. This paper is about NormAPI, an API for normalizing Filipino shortcut texts. NormAPI primarily intends to be used as a preprocessing system that corrects informalities in shortcut texts before they are handed for complete data processing.

ABSTRACT
As explained in Alonso and Calvo (2015: 137), throughout the second half of the 20th century until today, a number of voices have claimed that we are heading to a new phase in the history of humanity that implies changes as profound as those brought by the Neolithic or the Industrial Revolution, and that translation, like many other human activities, is experiencing paramount changes.
This work seeks to contribute to the current debate about the place that human and machine translators occupy (or should occupy) in the field of Translation Studies, as well as in the translation industry. For this purpose, we will carry out a comprehensive review of existing literature from diverse sources (academic and professional) that will help us outline the development of the dichotomy of machine translation vs. human translation over the last decades, the current landscape, as well as the forthcoming scenario that translation scholars and translators face.
As we will try to reveal, emerging phenomena such collaborative translation, cloud-translation and crowdsourcing are challenging the already disputed limits between human and machine translation. Together with technical and labour considerations, this analysis relies on valuable sociological and historical reflections, and signals the importance of incorporating ethics into this issue.

In this article we present a novel linguistically driven evaluation method and apply it to the main approaches of Machine Translation (Rule-based, Phrase-based, Neural) to gain insights into their strengths and weaknesses in much more detail than provided by current evaluation schemes. Translating between two languages requires substantial modelling of knowledge about the two languages, about translation, and about the world. Using English-German IT-domain translation as a case-study, we also enhance the Phrase-based system by exploiting parallel treebanks for syntax-aware phrase extraction and by interfacing with Linked Open Data (LOD) for extracting named entity translations in a post decoding framework.
