RESUMO Introdução: E se a minha variável resposta for categórica binária? Este artigo apresenta uma introdução intuitiva à regressão logística, técnica estatística mais adequada para lidar com variáveis dependentes dicotômicas. Materiais e Métodos: estimamos o efeito dos escândalos de corrupção sobre a chance de reeleição de candidatos concorrentes a deputado federal no Brasil a partir dos dados de Castro e Nunes (2014). Em particular, mostramos a implementação computacional no R e explicamos a interpretação substantiva dos resultados. Resultados: disponibilizamos todos os materiais de replicação, permitindo que estudantes e profissionais utilizem os procedimentos discutidos aqui em suas atividades de estudo e pesquisa. Discussão: esperamos incentivar o uso da regressão logística e difundir a replicabilidade como ferramenta de ensino de análise de dados. Introdução 1 O modelo linear de mínimos quadrados ordinários (MQO) é uma das ferramentas mais utilizadas na Ciência Política (Kruger & Lewis-Beck, 2008). Desde que os seus pressupostos sejam respeitados, os coeficien-tes estimados a partir de uma amostra aleatória fornecem a Melhor Estimativa Linear Não Viesada (best linear unbiased estimator) dos parâmetros popula-cionais (Kennedy, 2005). Não viesada porque nem sobreestima nem subestima sistematicamente o valor do parâmetro, e melhor porque apresenta a menor variância dentre todas as possíveis estimativas (Lewis-Beck, 1980). E quando os pressupostos forem violados? Nesse caso, devemos adotar técnicas mais adequadas à natureza dos dados. Por exemplo, imagine uma pesquisa que investiga o impacto da receita de campanha sobre a chance de um candidato ser eleito ou não. Como a variável dependente é binária, alguns pressupostos do modelo de mínimos quadrados são violados (homocedasti-cidade, linearidade e normalidade) e as estimativas podem ser inconsistentes. A regressão logística é a melhor ferramenta para lidar com variáveis dependentes dicotômicas, ou seja, quando o y apenas pode assumir duas categorias: eleito ou não eleito; adotou a política ou não adotou; votou no presidente Bolsonaro ou não. Lottes, DeMaris e Adler (1996) argumentam que, apesar da popularidade da regressão logística nas Ciências Sociais, ainda existe grande confusão a respeito de sua correta utilização. Pela nossa experiência pedagógica, essa dificuldade se explica pela escassez de material didático intuitivo. Além disso, muitos cursos de graduação e pós-graduação, assim como livros didáticos, encerram o conteúdo em regressão linear, o que reduz a disseminação de outras técnicas de análise de dados. Para preencher essa lacuna, este artigo apresenta uma introdução à regressão logística. Nosso objetivo é facilitar a compreensão da aplicação prática dessa técnica. The authors answer recent responses by Steensma & Cohen-Kettenis (2018) and Zucker (2018) to our critical commentary on “desistance” stereotypes and their underlying research on trans and gender diverse children (Temple Newhook et al., 2018). We provide clarification in the following areas: (1) the scope of our paper; (2) our support of longitudinal studies; (3) consequences of harm to trans and gender diverse children; (4) clinical practice implications; (5) concerns about validity of research methodology; and (6) the importance of learning to listen to trans and gender diverse children.

The study aimed to determine whether ethnicity and facial attractiveness affect students' ratings on selected traits, which may then imply stereotypes. the study was conducted in Mindanao State University-Main campus, Marawi City, where students from different ethnic groups are taking up different degree programs. An experimental design was employed to examine whether participants would give different ratings to stimulus persons representing different ethnicities (Cebuano and Meranao) and at different attractiveness level. This is to test the assumption of physical attractiveness stereotype that states: Attractive individuals are believed and stereotyped to have positive traits than Unattractive counterparts, and the cognitive theory on Categorization that posits that people categorizes and formulate different stereotypes to different ethnic groups, in line with ethnic stereotyping. 80 students were gathered and selected to different treatment conditions. Data were analyzed using mixed factorial analysis of variance to examine the significant main and interaction effects of the variables to people's ratings and stereotypes. Findings revealed that Ethnicity has a significant main effect to people's ratings and stereotypes (F(1,77) = 6.914, p = 0.002, ɳ2 = .152), which imply ethnic stereotyping and ethnocentrism. Meanwhile, physical/facial attractiveness also found to have significant and large main effect to people's ratings and stereotypes (F(1,77) = 78.239, p = .000, ɳ2 = .504), and that attractive stimulus person (M = 4.558) indeed got higher trait ratings than unattractive stimulus person (M = 3.529) in all treatment conditions. Furthermore, results also suggest that there was a significant interaction effect between these variables to people's ratings and stereotyping (F(1,77) = 31.172, p = .000, ɳ2 = .447).

Social psychologists are often criticized for failing to capture the dynamic nature of psychological processes. We present a novel framework to address this problem. The MOVE framework contends that to comprehend complex, contradictory, and divergent patterns of thought, affect, and behavior within changing, real-world contexts, it is necessary to undertake
ecologically valid research that is attentive to the lived experiences and meaning-making processes of culturally embedded individuals over time. A focus on meanings, observations, viewpoints, and experiences is essential for social psychological research that holistically captures how people construct, understand, respond, position, and act over time within changing
social, economic, and political contexts. To illustrate the utility of our proposition, we draw on classic social psychological studies and multimethod fieldwork during a period of rapid social and political change in Colombia during the peace process (2012–2017). We argue the MOVE framework has the potential to advance psychological understandings of, and contributions to, individuals embedded in real, dynamic social and political contexts. We discuss the implications of this extended social psychological paradigm for advancing psychological science.

In this paper, we discuss the benefits of and how to utilize Bayesian statistics in studies of moral education. To demonstrate concrete examples of the applications of Bayesian statistics to studies of moral education, we reanalyzed two datasets previously collected: one small dataset collected from a moral educational intervention experiment, and one big dataset from a large-scale Defining Issues Test-2 survey. Results suggest that Bayesian analysis of datasets collected from moral educational studies can provide additional useful statistical information, particularly that associated with the strength of evidence supporting alternative hypotheses, which has not been provided by the classical frequentist approach focusing on P-values. Finally, we introduce several practical guidelines pertaining to how to utilize Bayesian statistics, including the utilization of newly developed free statistical software, Jeffrey’s Amazing Statistics Program (JASP), and thresholding based on Bayes Factors, to scholars in the field of moral education.

Apesar da crescente oferta de dados em formato de painel, ainda são raros os estudos no Brasil que combinam as dimensões transversal e longitudinal na mesma análise. Para se ter uma ideia, em amostra de mais de 7 mil artigos publicados entre 2000 e 2018 em periódicos de CPRI,  apenas 45 casos citavam técnicas específicas para lidar com  observações de unidades espaciais (países, estados,  pessoas) repetidas em  intervalos  regulares do tempo (anos, meses, dias). Diante dos benefícios inferenciais que este tipo de perspectiva pode proporcionar e da escassez  de  pesquisas  sobre  o  tema,  este  artigo  apresenta  uma  introdução  à  regressão  de  painel.Metodologicamente, sintetizamos as principais recomendações da literatura e mostramos a implementação no R Statistical  com o pacote  plm,  indo desde a seleção de modelos até o tratamento dos dados e apresentação de resultados. Para aumentar o potencial pedagógico do trabalho, disponibilizamos os dados originais e scripts computacionais. Com este artigo esperamos difundir a utilização de análises longitudinais na pesquisa empírica em CPRI no Brasil.

In this Research Topic the two editors bring together a series of articles that use
facet theory and allied approaches to research. Since its inception in the work of
Louis Guttman in the mid-twentieth century, facet theory has become an established approach within social science research. In addition, over the past 70 years, a wide range of research publications have appeared operating within the theoretical and analytic rubric of facet theory and for the last two decades, a biennial international conference has been held devoted to facet theory research.

Introduction: What if my response variable is binary categorical? This paper provides an intuitive introduction to logistic regression, the most appropriate statistical technique to deal with dichotomous dependent variables. Materials and Methods: we estimate the effect of corruption scandals on the chance of reelection of candidates running for the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies using data from Castro and Nunes (2014). Specifically, we show the computational implementation in R and we explain the substantive interpretation of the results. Results: we share replication materials which quickly enables students and professionals to use the procedures presented here for their studying and research activities. Discussion: we hope to facilitate the use of logistic regression and to spread replication as a data analysis teaching tool.
