Roaming

If you live abroad and see yourself neither as an expat nor as an immigrant, that's not surprising. Those are 20th century concepts for 20th century ways of living. Roamers are distinct from immigrants and expats because they might stay in their host country for another year or they might stay for a lifetime. They’re not lured overseas by a lucrative expat package. Also, unlike expats, roamers don’t necessarily expect to repatriate to their home country, at least not for good. Internetworks of the future will allow and promote universal access. Network users will be able to access the network at a multitude of access points separated by signi cant geographic distance and many administrative boundaries. Lacking a single central authority, a new set of inter-domain security mechanisms is needed to allow users to migrate into remote domains while inheriting privileges from their home domain. Solutions addressing this issue must take into account a somewhat contradictory security constraint that calls for strict separation of security domains in order to avoid sharing sensitive security information among them. In this paper, we propose a solution for authenticating mobile users in remote domains that maintains the domain separation property. The protocols described herein can be applied in di erent mobile-user environments including wireless networks and mobile user services on traditional wireline networks.

Resumen La sistematización de la ducha popular desde finales del siglo XIX, es producto de la voluntad de eficacia militar. Este proceso parte de la centralización radial de sus instalaciones y tiende a fragmentar y seriar programática-mente su espacio y tiempo. La ducha se promueve y obliga en los establecimientos públicos, instruyendo a los niños, a los soldados y a los delincuentes en la práctica de la ducha periódica como una obligación necesaria, para posteriormente resurgir como deseo. La guerra iguala a todo el mundo como combatiente en una causa de Estado. La ducha, que inicialmente parecía exponerse como arma de guerra, pasa a ser una máquina de Estado y presenta, para el individuo nómada, la movilidad de la ducha colectiva. Para concluir, la ducha se introduce en el camino de su comercialización masiva, presentándose la paradoja de la individualización como síntesis de la sistematización y de la eficacia en fase de itinerancia. Abstract The systematisation of popular shower in the late nineteenth century, is the product of the military will towards efficiency. This process starts with the radial centralisation of its installations and tends to fragment and serialize programmatically its space and time. The shower is promoted and compulsory in public establishments, instructing children, soldiers and offenders towards the practice of periodical shower as a necessary obligation and, af-terwards, emerging as desire. War evens everybody as a combatant within a cause of State. Although initially the shower seemed to be exposed as an arm of war, it turns to be a machine of State and presents, for the nomad individual, the mobility of the collective shower. In conclusion, the shower is introduced into the way of massive commercialisation, showing the paradox of individualisation as a synthesis of systematisation and efficiency in a roaming phase.

ABSTRACT Until, recently, the wide deployment of pervasive information system is still limited due to high cost of infrastructure, and more important, its requirement of rebuilding a new information infrastructure from scratch without reusing much from the current working system. In this study, we propose Bkhoa context-aware system (BKCAS), a novel architecture for scalable pervasive information system having the capability of intelligently routing multimedia messages to users based on the context processing. Moreover, BKCAS support user roaming over a large number of loosely coupled autonomous domains. Differ from many other pervasive systems, which assume a completely newly built infrastructure, our approach focuses on reusing the most of current infrastructure, and incrementally extend the system the most non-intrusive way in order to minimised deployment cost and to improve the user acceptance. Furthermore, we successfully prototype the system and evaluate its performance by an automated testbed.

Introduction: In June 2007, the European legislature set a new course for consumer protection in the mobile telephone markets. Regulation No. 717/2007 on roaming on public mobile telephone networks within the Community (Roaming Regulation) introduced price ceilings for cross-border mobile voice telephony in the EU. In 2009, it was extended and now includes price caps for SMS and data roaming services . It is based on Article 95 EC (now Article 114 TFEU) which grants the European legislature the competence to approximate differences in Member States’ laws, should the perceived disparity affect the functioning of the internal market. The ECJ faced the question whether Article 95 EC may be used to harmonise prices for the provision of services by private actors and if so under which circumstances.

The object of the present briefing is to analyse some of the fundamental aspects of the legal proposal by the European Commission on the subject of roaming, COM (2006) 382 on 12 July 2006, which proposed to modify the regulation of mobile communications, resulting in important reductions of roaming tariffs within the Community. The briefing examines the efficiency and concrete applicability of the measures introduced by the Regulation Proposal, which created the “Mechanism of the Domestic European Market” and the envisaged requirements of transparency and information on roaming costs charged by mobile network operators (MNOs). The briefing consists of four sections, analysing the following issues: Transparency, Technical Infrastructure, Overview of Existing Data, and Feasibility of Technical Implementation.

El roaming es un servicio de comunicaciones móviles donde los clientes de un switch, denominado red origen, pueden traficar en otra red distinta a la que se denomina red visitada. Es la capacidad de un cliente móvil para efectuar y recibir llamadas con su mismo número celular cuando viaja fuera del país.
