Scale Adaptation

In recent years, mindfulness has been acknowledged as an important factor for physical and psychological well-being. At the same time, it is conceptualized as a personality characteristic as well as an intervention technique. Several assessment instruments were developed to measure mindfulness. Among these, Toronto Mindfulness Scale (TMS), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) and Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) were adapted to Turkish language and culture. In the meantime, a short form of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) was developed. The aim of the current study is to conduct a Turkish adaptation study for this short form. The other scales used in the study included Demographic Information and Personal Evaluation Questionnaire, Toronto Mindfulness Scale (TMS), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), and the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI). The study sample consisted of 268 participants (165 women and 99 men), with an age range of 18-75 (M = 25.59, SD = 9.99). The analyses revealed that the five-factor structure of the original form was preserved and other psychometric properties such as validity and reliability were found to be appropriate in the Turkish adaptation of the short form of the scale. In the light of the findings obtained, it is proposed that the Short Form of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ - Short Form) can be used with confidence in mindfulness-related research in Turkey.

ÖZET. Bu çalışma, İkili İlişkiler Güven Ölçeği’nin Türkçe’ye çevirisi ve Ölçeğin (İİGÖ) geçerlik ve güvenirliğine ilişkin kanıtların incelenmesi amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Ölçek, Ankara, Aydın, İstanbul, Kayseri ve Sakarya illerinden 411 (211 kadın, 200 erkek) evli bireye uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliği ile ilgili bulgular, orijinal ölçekteki tek boyutlu yapıyı desteklemiştir. Ölçeğin geçerliğine ilişkin diğer kanıtlar, İİGÖ ile Evlilik Yaşamı Ölçeği ve Duygusal Bağlılık Ölçeği arasındaki korelasyonların olumlu yönde ve anlamlı düzeyde olduğunu göstermiştir. Bulgular ayrıca, erkeklerin İİGÖ puan ortalamalarının kadınlardan anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. İİGÖ’nün iç tutarlık katsayısı .89; iki yarı güve- nirliği .86 bulunmuştur. Çalışmanın sonuçları, ölçeğin ülkemizde kullanılabilecek, geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu sonuçlar literatür çerçevesinde tartışılarak bazı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to translate Dyadic Trust Scale into Turkish and to examine the evidence related to its validity and reliability. The Scale was administered to 411 married individuals (211 female, 200 male) from Ankara, Aydın, Kayseri, İstanbul, and Sakarya. Findings regarding the construct validity of the scale were found to be consistent with the original scale’s one factor structure. The results of other validity studies indicated that Dyadic Trust Scale was positively and significantly associated with Marital Satisfaction Scale and Emotional Dependency Scale. Furthermore, results revealed that males’ dyadic trust score were significantly higher than females’. The Cronbach alpha coefficient for the total scale was found to be .89 whereas split-half reliability coefficient was .86. Results of the study indicated that Dyadic Trust Scale is a valid and reliable instrument to use in Turkey. The findings were discussed within the literature and some suggestions were presented.

Öz
Bilişim teknolojileri günümüzde çalışma hayatını neredeyse tamamıyla etkisi altına almış durumdadır. Organizasyonun etkinliği ve verimliliği için birçok fayda sağlayan yeni teknolojiler, çalışanların iş yapış tarzlarında köklü değişiklere de sebep olmaktadır. Bu değişikler birey üzerinde bir takım baskılar oluşturabilmektedir. Yeni teknolojilerin tetiklediği bu baskı tekno-stres olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Tekno-stresi ölçmek yönetebilmenin ön şartı olduğundan bu çalışmada Tarafdar
vd. (2007) tarafından geliştirilmiş olan tekno-stres ölçeği, iş yeri kaynaklı tekno-stresi ölçmek maksadıyla yeniden düzenlenerek Türkçe’ye adapte edilmiştir. Böylece, bankacılık ve havacılık sektörü çalışanları olmak üzere iki ayrı örneklem üzerinde geçerliği ve güvenilirlik testlerinden geçen ölçek yazına kazandırılmıştır. Ayrıca her iki sektörde de tekno-stresin %30’lar seviyesinden etkili olduğu ve aralarında anlamlı bir fark olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.
Abstract
Information and computer technologies have penetrated into all dimensions of work life. These technologies that improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness, may lead some radical changes in working methods and habits of employees. These changes can cause certain pressures on employees.
These pressures caused by new information technologies are called techno-stress. Measuring a concept is the prerequisite for managing it. The aim of this study is to adapt techno-stress scale by Tarafdar et al (2007) in to Turkish through a modification which is done in order to focus on workplace related techno-stress. To do so, validity and reliability  analyses are conducted to data which is collected from
two different industries namely banking and aviation, and “Techno-stress Scale at Workplace” is provided in Turkish. Moreover, it is found that techno-stress levels in both sectors are 30%, and there is no significant difference between them in terms of techno-stress.

Bu çalışmanın amacı eğitim alanında yapılmış ölçek uyarlama makalelerinin belirli ölçütler açısından incelenmesidir. Çalışmada 2005-2014 yılları arasında SSCI ve/veya ULAKBİM’de indekslenen 10 dergide yayınlanmış toplam 108 makale incelenmiştir. Makalelerin incelenmesinde araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen “Ölçek Uyarlama Süreci Kontrol Formu” kullanılmıştır.
Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre; ölçek uyarlama çalışmalarında ölçme aracının amacının belirtildiği ve ölçülen yapının kuramsal temellerinin tanıtıldığı görülmüştür. Dilsel eşdeğerlik çalışmalarında genellikle geri çeviri yöntemi tercih edilirken, çevrilen hedef form genellikle sadece hedef gruba uygulanmıştır. Yapı geçerliğinin belirlenmesinde AFA ve DFA’nın araştırmaların çoğunda beraber kullanıldığı, ölçüt geçerliğinin ise genellikle incelenmediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Uyarlanan ölçeğin güvenirliği hesaplanırken sıklıkla iç tutarlılık yöntemi tercih edilmiştir.
Çalışmaların bulgularında ise yapı geçerliğinin genellikle orijinal ölçek ile benzerlik gösterdiği, ölçekten madde çıkarıldığı durumlarda yerine yeni maddelerin önerilmediği görülmüştür.
ABSTRACT
This study aims at reviewing the articles written on scale adaptation in the field of education based on certain criteria. A total of 108 articles published in 10 journals indexed in SSCI and/or ULAKBIM during 2005–2014 were analyzed for this study. The “Scale Adaptation Process Check Form” developed by researchers was used in the analysis of the articles.
The results demonstrated that the purpose of the tools of measurement was stated and that the theoretical bases of the structures to be measured were described in the studies of scale adaptation. Conversely, in studies of linguistic equivalence, while the back translation method was normally used, the translated target forms were usually administered only to the target groups. It was concluded that the EFA and CFA were used in combination in most of the studies for determining the construct validity, whereas the criterion validity was not studied generally. The method of internal consistency was usually preferred in calculating the reliability of the scale adapted.
It was observed that the construct validity was generally similar to the one in the original scale, and that when an item was removed from the scale, no item was recommended as replacement for the removed item.

The paper is the first presentation of A. Bandura’s concept of moral disengagement and its eight mechanisms made in the Russian language. Various examples of empirical research of this construct conducted in different countries for various purposes are described. Three empirical studies of the adaptation procedure for the original English version (authored by C. Moore) are provided in Russian translation: two studies describe the short scale (MD-8) adaptation procedures and the third one describes the longer scale (MD-24) adaptation procedure. It is shown that Cronbach’s alpha reliability index as well as the test-retest reliability coeffcient are acceptable. Both scales for moral disengagement assessment (MD-8 and MD-24 in Russian) may be used for various purposes. Both scales’ questions/statements are provided

Nowadays, and under the global warming circumstances we are facing, particularly those resulting from the building sectors, many directions for more sustainable and eco-friendly concepts have emerged. From these sustainability approaches is the "Biomimicry" approach. This approach represents the science of imitating and benefiting from nature's principles. Nature has provided various strategies to adapt to the surrounding conditions. There are several methodologies and tools developed following the biomimicry approach and taking nature as inspiration. However, difficulties arise in collaborating more than one discipline, which consumes a lot of time and effort, consequently cost. Furthermore, the existing methodologies are still too generic for architects. Therefore, this paper aims at developing a platform that integrates different methodologies, approaches, and tools comprehensively. In this paper, the focus would be on plant adaptations. A more focus would be on the building's envelope specifically due to its valuable contribution to the building's overall energy consumption. The paper seeks to integrate the plant's adaptive strategies to the building envelope. The motivation is to tackle solutions for the building envelope environmental problems mainly for heat, water air, and light challenges.

Bu çalışma Bolino ve Turnley (1999) tarafından geliştirilen İzlenim Yönetimi Ölçeği ’nin (Impression Management Scale-IMS), Türkçe’ ye uyarlanması ve geçerlik değerleri ile ilgili bulguları içermektedir. Çalışma, iki farklı örneklemden (N = 104, N = 518) alınan verilerle yürütülmüştür. Analizler sonucunda, ölçeğin orijinal faktör yapılanmasından çok da farklı olmayan bir faktör yapısı gösterdiği bulunmuştur. Ortaya çıkan 5 faktör, "Kendine acındırmaya çalışma", "Niteliklerini tanıtarak kendini sevdirmeye çalışma", Kendini örnek bir personel gibi göstermeye çalışma", "Kendi önemini zorla fark ettirmeye çalışma" ve "İşine sahip çıkmaya çalışma" olarak isimlendirilmiştir. Geçerliğe yönelik olarak yapılan analizlerde ise, ölçeğin ayırıcı geçerliğinin, kriter değişkenleriyle (başkaları üzerinde bırakmak istediği izlenimden duyduğu memnuniyet, kişinin mesleki hedeflerine ulaşma düzeyi, kendilik algısı) korelasyonlarının, tatmin edici seviyede olduğu belirlenmiştir. Cronbach alfa güvenirlik değerlerinin, ölçeğin tamamı için (standardize edilmiş maddeler üzerinden) .82; faktör alt ölçekleri için de .57 (Madde sayısı = 2) ile .74 (Madde sayısı = 5) arasında değiştiği tespit edilmiştir. Sonuçlar, İzlenim Yönetimi Ölçeği’ nin Türkçe’ ye uyarlamasının, Türkiye’deki çalışma yaşamındaki izlenim yönetimi davranışlarının ölçülmesinde geçerli ve güvenilir olarak kullanılabilecek bir ölçek olduğunu göstermiştir.

Today one of the main purposes of science education is to educate individuals to use scientific process skills. Individuals who grow in this context can be good citizens who knows the requirements of the age, questioning, investigating and able to establish a connection with daily life. In addition, while teaching science, the aim is not only to teach the concepts but also educate the students to solve the problems they face with throught their life, in scientific ways, and to manage to look through the scientisits' eyes to the phenomena and the World. By providing these skills, it is mportant to know teachers' perceptions of the applications of these skills. Literature show that there are limited valid and reliable instruments which evaluate teachers' scientific process who teach science. From this point, in this study, the scale for teachers' perceptions of the application of scientific process skills developed by Rambuda and Fraser (2004) was adapted. The adaptation process was performed in three different universities. The sample consisted of preservice teachers in three educational faculties. The scale consisted of 22 items using 4 point Likert Scale. The scale was applied to 686 preservice teachers in teacher training programme during 2014-2015 academic year. To test the language equivalance, English and Turkish versions of the scale was applied to 58 students in English teacher training programme and positive and significant correlations were identified. To determine construct validity of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted. Results of exploratory factor analysis showed that the scale consisted of 2 dimensions: Basic science process skills and integrated science process skills. The valus of factor loadings varied within the range of ,46-,78. The inner consistency coefficient for reliability was calculated to be ,91. The ciriterian validity results showed that the scale is suitable for the purpos. The result of confirmatory factor analysis showed that indices were found at an acceptable level and determined that the scale was relevant to the real data. The findings of the study identified that the teachers' perceptions of the applications of scientific process skills scale is valid and reliable assessment tool.

The aim of the current study was to investigate the basic psychometrics of the Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse (MMEA; Murphy & Hoover, 1999) in a Turkish sample. Two hundred and fifty-four college students participated and completed the Turkish version of the MMEA (MMEA-TR) along with the Physical Assault of Conflict Tactics Scale-Revised, Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory, Relationship Assessment Scale, and Social Desirability Questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the four-factor structure of the MMEA-TR for both victimization and perpetration reports. This factor structure was cross-validated with an independent older sample of 328 dating college students for perpetration reports. Satisfactory criterion validity and internal consistency reliability results were obtained as well. Based on the preliminary investigation, the MMEA-TR appears to be a psychometrically sound measure of psychological dating aggression perpetration and victimization among college students in Turkey. The results, limitations, and recommendations for future studies were discussed. P sychological form of dating violence has recently attracted researchers' interests and research on this topic has been flourishing. In the literature, psychological aggression, psychological violence, psychological abuse, emotional abuse, verbal aggression, verbal abuse, and psychological maltreatment (and so on) have been used interchangeably with no consensus on the definition. Such an ambiguity basically stems from two reasons: The first is what violence, abuse, and aggression literally mean.

The purpose of this study was to develop a Turkish version of the Creative Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES) and to explore its psychometric properties. Participants were 489 preservice teachers enrolled in a public university in Turkey (n = 489). Two-hundred-thirty-five of 489 preservice teachers (48.06%) participated in the first study for the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and 254 (51.94%) participated in the second study for the confirmatory factor analysis. Two-hundred-sixty (53.2%) of the participants were studying in preschool teaching and 132 (46.8%) were studying in classroom teaching programs. CSES, which is a 3-item Likert-type English questionnaire, was translated into Turkish by the researcher. Eight researchers who were expert in Turkish education, English language teaching, educational measurement and evaluation, elementary education and educational technology fields participated in the back-translation and expert review processes. Scale scores did not differ according to sex, age, grade or department of the respondent. However, creative self-efficacy was observed to be related to design self-efficacy.

Problem: Kendi kendine öğrenme kavramı tüm Dünya’da ve Türkiye’de yoğun olarak çalışılan ve tartışılan bir kavramdır. Fakat ulusal alanyazın incelendiğinde bu çalışmaların kendi kendine öğrenmeyi teknoloji ile birleştirmedikleri ve kendi kendine öğrenmeye çocuklar açısından bakmadıkları görülmüştür. Bu nedenle bu çalışma kapsamında Teo ve diğ. (2010) tarafından geliştirilen çocukların teknoloji ile birlikte kendi kendine öğrenme ölçeği Türkçe’ye uyarlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Bursa ve Ankara’daki 5 ortaokul veya lisede öğrenimine devam eden 1051 öğrenci (Kadın = %49.2, Erkek = %50,8) oluşturmaktadır. İlk olarak ölçeğin Türkçe formu araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulmuştur. Daha sonra bu Türkçe form 4 uzmana gösterilerek alınan dönütler doğrultusunda gerekli düzenlemeler yapılarak ölçeğin dilsel eşdeğerliği sağlanmıştır. Kapsam geçerliğinin sağlanması için ise; ölçek 4 alan uzmanına gösterilerek gerekli düzenlemeler yapılmıştır. Ölçeğin factoriyel geçerliği için AFA (açıklayıcı faktör analizi) ve DFA (doğrulayıcı faktör analizi) uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin AFA yapılmasa hazır olma durumunu tespit etmek için KMO ve Bartlett küresellik testlerinden yararlanılmıştır. DFA kapsmında uyum indisi olarak RMSEA, AGFI, NFI,NNFI ve χ2/SD kullanılmıştır. En iyi modeli bulmak için DFA sırasında tek faktörlü, ilişkili iki faktörlü ve hiyerarşik modeler sınanmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliliğini sağlamak için ise ayırt edici (Discriminant) ve yakınsak (Convergent) geçerlik yöntemlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Yapı geçerliği kapsamında AVE (Average variance extracted) değerlerinin .5’ten ve faktörler arasındaki ilişki katsayılarından büyük olma durumu kontrol edilmiştir.
Bulgular: KMO sonucunun .794 ve Bartlett testi sonucunun .000 (χ2=1098. 350) olarak bulunması nedeniyle ölçeğin faktör analizine uygun olduğuna karar verilmiştir. AFA sonucunda ölçeğin toplam varyansın %59,316’sını açıkladığı tespit edilmiştir. Ölçeğin; öz yönetim faktörünün yapıdaki varyansın %16.758’ini ve niyetli öğrenme faktörünün ise %42.874’ünü açıkladığı bulunmuştur. Yapılan DFA sonucunda uyum indislerinin yeterli seviyede oldukları belirlenmiştir. Sınanan modeller arasında ilişkili iki faktörlü modelin en iyi uyum indislerini verdiği bulunmuştur Ayrıca bütün AVE değerlerinin .5’ten ve faktörler arasındaki ilişki katsayılarından büyük olduğu görülmüştür. Faktöriyel ve yapı geçerliği sonucunda, Teo ve diğ. (2010) tarafından geliştirilen orijinal ölçek ile ölçeğin Türkçe formunun madde-faktör yapısı açısından birebir aynı olduğu bulunmuştur. Yani, ölçek 2 ve 4 maddelik iki faktörden oluşmak üzere toplamda 6 maddeden oluşmuştur Ölçeğin Cronbach alfa iç tutarlılık katsayısı toplamda .729 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Öz yönetim ve niyetli öğrenme faktörlerinin güvenirlik katsayıları ise sırasıyla .528 ve .729 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç olarak çocukların teknoloji ile birlikte kendi kendine öğrenme ölçeğinin güvenir ve geçerli bir ölçme aracı olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
Sonuç ve öneriler: Bu ölçek, öğretmenlerin, ortaokul ve liselerdeki öğrencilerin bulundukları teknoloji ile birlikte kendi kendine öğrenme seviyelerini hızlı bir şekilde tespit edebilmeleri açısından pratik ve kullanışlı bir veri toplama aracıdır. Bu şekilde öğretmenler derste kullanılacak yöntemleri öğrencilerin bulundukları kendi kendine öğrenme seviyesine göre ayarlayabilirler.

Self-directed learning concept has been studied a lot in the literature and different aspects of it have been investigated. Nonetheless, a few studies associated self-directed learning with technology. Moreover, there are in the literature, relatively limited number of studies investigating self-directed learning in terms of children and adolescents. That is why, in this study, self-directed learning with technology for young students scale developed by Teo, Tan, Lee, Chai and Koh (2010) was adapted to Turkish. Study group of the research consisted of 1051 primary and secondary school students. Data was collected from four schools located at Bursa and Ankara. Explanatory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted in order to prove the factorial validity of the scale. Discriminant and convergent validity methods were also used to prove the construct validity. For the linguistic equivalence and content validity of the scale, four experts for each were consulted and, according to feedbacks, required changes were done. In EFA, scale, in total, explained 59,316% of the variance of self-directed learning construct. Self-management factor accounts for 16,758% of the variance while intentional learning accounts for 42,874 % of the variance. KMO coefficient and Bartlett’s test of sphericity value were found as .794, and .000 (χ2=1098, 350) respectively. In CFA, the values of goodness of fit indices were sufficient to proceed. The final item-factor structure of Turkish form of the scale was found to be the same as original scale. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was calculated to be .729, reliability of the self-management and intentional learning factors were calculated to be .528 and .729 respectively. In sum, Turkish form of the self-directed learning with technology scale for young students was proved valid and reliable. Self-directed learning with technology scale for young students can be used by teacher as a handy measurement tool in order to determine the students’ current level of self-directed learning with technology. According to result of the scale, teacher can use methods that fit to students’ current level of self- directed learning. In this way, students may be more successful.

This study aims to adapt the Appearance-Related Social Media Consciousness Scale (ASMC), developed by Choukas-Bradley et al. (2020), into Turkish and carry out validity, reliability, and standard-setting studies on adolescents. The study was conducted on 444 adolescents, 296 of whom were girls. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to determine the scale's construct validity. Correlation analysis was performed for criterion validity, and Cronbach alpha and composite reliability coefficients were calculated for reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis results showed that the scale fits perfectly. The scale showed a moderate positive correlation with social appearance anxiety, depression, anxiety, and stress. In addition, the reliability coefficients were over .90. The results indicated that ASMC has good psychometric properties.

Türkiye ölümlü iş kazaları sıralamasında Avrupa’da birinci, dünyada üçüncü sırada bulunmaktadır. Yazında iş yerlerinde iş kazalarının en aza indirilmesi hedefine ulaşmak için en önemli hususlardan birisi olarak güvenlik ikliminin tesis edilmesi görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada örgütlerde iş güvenliği iklimini ölçmeye yönelik olarak tasarlanmış ve yabancı örneklemler üzerinde denenmiş bir ölçeğin Türkçe geçerlik ve güvenilirlik sınamasının yapılması ve yerli yazına Türkçe bir ölçek kazandırılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma iki ayrı örneklem grubunda yapılmıştır. Birinci örneklem kamuya bağlı sağlık kuruluşları çalışanlarından, ikinci örneklem ise elektronik sektöründe faaliyet gösteren bir işletmenin çalışanlarından oluşturulmuştur. Yapılan analizlere göre her iki örneklem grubu için de ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir olduğu belirlenmiş olup söz konusu ölçeğin Türk dili ve kültür özellikleri ile uyumlu olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to determine the reliability and validity of the motivation to teach scale (MTS) which was developed by Kauffman, Yılmaz Soylu and Duke (2011) on the sample of teacher candidates in Turkey. The study group of the research in general survey model consists of 342 teacher candidates who are in the education faculty of an university in the marmara region. Correlation of the English form was determined as .84 which was translated into Turkish with the contribution of domain and language experts. In order to analyze the construct validity of the scale AMOS 21.0 was used. The result of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the scale exactly retains its prior structure with two dimensions and 12 items. The scale’s Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient has been found to be .92 ( X2= 136.086 (sd= 44 p= .00),  X2/sd =3.10, RMSEA=0.08, NFI= 0.92, CFI= 0.94, -GFI= 0.94, -AGFI= 0.89). As a result of this study the motivation to teach scale (MTS) was determined as a reliable and valid scale in Turkey’s conditions.
