Tra i numerosi interventi usciti nella stampa quotidiana italiana tra il 6 e il 19 marzo 2022 che hanno affrontato la questione della opportunità e della legittimità della resistenza ucraina, nonché della opportunità e della legittimità degli aiuti armati da prestarle, alcuni offrono lo spunto per presentare esempi storici in tema, a partire dagli inizi del Trecento.

Since its first issues, Engramma has come to terms with images in war. In 2001, after the attack on the Twin Towers; in 2015, an issue dedicated to the abecedaries of Aby Warburg, Bertolt Brecht, and Ernst Jünger; at the end of 2015, an issue on the martyrdom of Palmyra, dedicated to the archaeologist Khaled Al Asaad. But already since 2008 Engramma has hosted various contributions and devoted several monographic issues to the protection of cultural heritage, wartime destruction and post-war reconstruction. March 2022 – and it is war time again. The first section of this special issue is dedicated to James Hillman and his reflections on Ares and the "terrible love of war". The third section collects interviews and interventions by Italian intellectuals who speak with voices that are dissonant with the stadium choirs that pollute the senses and dull critical intelligence: Nadia Fusini, Luciano Canfora, Lorenzo Braccesi, Moni Ovadia, Massimo Cacciari, and Salvatore Settis. At the heart of this issue of Engramma, you can find an Image Gallery, edited by Seminario Mnemosyne in six chapters: I. Enlisting Icons; II. Pornographic Romanticism; III. The Crusade of the Children; IV. "Still Dead"; V. In hoc signo; VI. Despite everything, Images.

Marzo 2022, ed è di nuovo tempo di guerra. Questa volta la guerra è molto più vicina, non solo per la geografia ma per la titanica invasione mediatica e per la violenza dell’occupazione dello spazio del pensiero. La guerra ci fa orrore ma la risposta non può essere un facile pacifismo, né si può essere pacificati o arresi allo stato delle cose. Una definizione di pace al negativo, come assenza di conflitto, non serve a impedire le stragi e le distruzioni. Questo numero di Engramma nasce come risposta all’attacco che la guerra sempre muove alla ragione e all’intelligenza critica: perciò ospita una serie di interventi di figure rilevanti nel panorama culturale italiano, ma il suo motore è un altro, ovvero l’urgenza di articolare una viva forma della militanza psichica in un lavoro scientifico svolto in forma corale.

The article shows the war in Ukraine as a huge humanitarian catastrophe, with consequences for the disruption or destruction of natural areas and the long-term threat to the environment, with implications for the health of people for generations to come. This is happening in violation of internationally valid conventions and protocols to which both Ukraine and the Russian Federation are signatories. A brief (and as yet incomplete) list of damages will be gradually amended so that accountability can be established. The international community should be involved, as the environment has no borders.

Der Krieg Russlands gegen die Ukraine betrifft insbesondere ukrainische Frauen schwer. Zahlreiche Frauen haben ihr Leben verloren, mehrere sind Opfer von Gewalt geworden und viele mussten zusammen mit ihren Kindern und Eltern aus der Ukraine in die Nachbarländer und nach Deutschland fliehen. Doch ukrainische Frauen sind nicht nur Kriegsopfer. Ein Viertel des militärischen Personals der ukrainischen Armee sind Frauen, die ihr Land verteidigen. Geflüchtete Frauen kümmern sich um Familienangehörige und andere Bedürftige, organisieren gemeinsam mit den Bürgern des Zufluchtslandes Hilfe für ihr Heimatland und beteiligen sich aktiv an öffentlichen Gesprächen über die Kriegssituation, um die internationale und lokale Gesellschaft für den Krieg zu sensibilisieren.

Das Podiumsgespräch, das sich sowohl an Hochschulmitglieder als auch an ein breiteres lokales Publikum richtet, wird einen Überblick über den Krieg in der Ukraine liefern, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf den vielfältigen Erfahrungen und Rollen ukrainischer Frauen liegt. Die vier eingeladenen Expertinnen, darunter zwei ukrainische Wissenschaftlerinnen, werden sich mit den Themen der Betroffenheit, Resilienz und des Empowerments ukrainischer Frauen im Krieg befassen. Auch die Migration der Frauen mit ihren Kindern nach Deutschland und die Unterstützung durch die deutsche Gesellschaft, namentlich durch Göttinger Bürgerinnen und Bürger, werden im Mittelpunkt der Diskussion stehen.
