Some of her most popular including the #1 New York Times bestsellers Small Great Things, A Spark of Light, Leaving Time, The Storyteller, Lone Wolf, Between the Lines, Sing You Home, House Rules, Handle with Care, Change of Heart, Nineteen Minutes, and My Sister’s Keeper.

Picoult was born in New York on May 19, 1966. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University in 1987.

While in school, she published two short stories in Seventeen magazine. After graduation, she began her career by doing everything from revising textbooks to teaching eighth-grade English.

Picoult’s novels contain many different themes that explore complex issues such as human rights, sexuality, gender discrimination, race relations, mental health issues like depression or schizophrenia, and the death penalty. She uses each story to bring awareness about important social matters and show how various situations affect characters in everyday life.

Her novels are written in three parts: the first part sets up the problem while the second part explores possible resolutions to help resolve it. The final section ends the novel with the protagonist making choices that alter their life path forever.

She frequently uses a moral quandary or a procedure drama in which family members are pitted against one another as the basis for her stories.

Harvesting the Heart

Paige O’Toole has an unhappy childhood and leaves home after high school. She meets her future husband, Nicholas Prescott, at a diner where she sketches customers.

Paige convinces Nicholas to go back to medical school. And, they have their first baby later.

Paige becomes frustrated with the pressures of motherhood, and she decides to leave her family for a while. However, she returns to find her irresponsible mother, who abandoned her when she was only five years old.

She discovers that her life is unlike her irresponsible mother’s, and she can fight for a better life for her children with Nicholas.

The Pact

The Pact is a novel written by Jodi Picoult. It was published in 1998 and is about two sets of neighbors who become very close and the children in their families who fall in love. They have a suicide pact that goes wrong, and then one of the teens dies while the other is arrested for murder. Their parents are no longer friends after this happens.

My Sister’s Keeper

My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult is about a girl who sues her parents for medical emancipation.

Anna was conceived as a savior sibling to be a donor for Kate, her sister, who has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. Anna and her parents go through many procedures and operations so that Anna can donate the cells needed for Kate’s treatments.

When Anna turns 13, she won’t let any more operations happen. She has already undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots.

She feels it’s unethical to keep doing this without her consent. She decides to sue her parents with lawyer Campbell Alexander to gain medical emancipation from them, which she wants to make decisions on what happens with her body at age 13. This is a situation where she will be forced to choose between her family and her sister, who she adores.

In this book, Picoult explores the consequences of cloning and gene replacement therapy through her characters, asking whether birthing one child to preserve another can ever be a loving action or if it’s a selfish one.
