The cutting knife/blade bends easily and renders the tool useless.I have 6 assorted Corona brand tools and I have been loyal to this brand for 27 years. At least two of my Corona tools are 27 years old and it was based on the performance of these first two original Corona tools that I purchased more Corona tools over time. All 6 have performed well. I eventually broke one pair of hand pruners and last year I finally wore out my original Corona Anvil Lopper. But these were excellent tools. The anvil lopper served me well for 27 years, until I replaced it last March with a new one.The new Corona anvil lopper did not last long, because the cutting knife that closes against the anvil quickly bent (see photo), rendering the tool useless. I did not blame the tool. I instead assumed that my friend working with me that day had used the tool improperly, that he was twisting the lopper while cutting with it, thereby bending the cutting knife/blade. So I bought a second new Corona lopper on Amazon last May. This time my friend was not working with me. I used the tool alone, and I was surprised when the second new lopper suffered the same failure - the cutting knife/blade bent rendering the tool useless. See photo.Remarkably, the cutting knife/blade on my 27-year-old lopper was still good so I installed it on one of my two new failed loppers. As repaired, the new lopper works great, using the cutting knife/blade from my 27-year-old lopper.I am assuming that these bad cutting knives/blades are the result of a manufacturing defect and Corona will identify the defect and fix it. Until that happens, however, these loppers will not last long, and I have two of them to prove it. I still like this brand - I just bought a new hand pruner to replace the one I broke after so many years of service.

I have 800+ citrus trees and spend a good deal of time pruning. These loppers punch above their weight, are professional grade and stand up to hard use When used properly they will make thousands of cuts with ease. With anvil loppers you must cut perpendicularly through the branch rather than diagonally as one would do with bypass loppers.
The big benefit to anvil style is that one can cut suckers up against the trunk.
The blade is very strong - I have never bent a blade as some reviews show, but then I only cut wood with them. The blade does however cut a groove into the anvil surface over time which allows the handles to close tighter together vs when new and your knuckles may bang together.
I noticed corona sells replacement anvils for around $15 - have not tried those yet as the tool is reasonably priced new.
I recommend thread lock on the two anvil bolts because I have had them loosen.
I am very satisfied with these loppers. I have bought four sets of these over the past 25+ years. The quality has been consistent. Well worth the price.

I researched MANY different loppers and cutters. Glad I bought these. They’re strong, easy to use, and durable. Best for the price. Why put up with ratchet loppers? They take too long for each and every cut. These get the job done faster, and they work well on branches up to 2" thick. Easy! A solid bite and sharp blade does the job!

I purchased these to semi-replace a set I’ve been using for 20 years. They have been excellent. I have found the blade on anvil style to be more robust than bypass loppers. My old set will continue service at our lake cabin while I use the new ones at home.

What a great anvil pruner. Very strong and capable of cutting through BIG limbs.
I used this pruner for six years. You could also say I abused it for six years asking it to cut any limb I could get its jaws around. The clipper blade finally snapped (after six years of HEAVY DUTY use) and I emailed Corona for a replacement. They responded within two hours and had a free replacement blade in the mail same day. I was unsure if I should ask for a new blade since I was really going to town on a dead limb and probably pushing the tool beyond what it was designed to do. To ease my guilt I just ordered a second pruner to have a spare on hand. This is a company I want to support! If you need a big pruner the Corona FL 3420 deserves your consideration.

My last lopper was a bypass lopper and I found it to be difficult to use when trimming my mesquite tree. I put it out of commission and turned to this anvil lopper instead. I found the annual trimming to be a lot easier. I was able to cut through every branch with ease; no issues with vine-y branches getting stuck between the blades. Thicker branches were cut with very little effort. I didn't find my arms any more or less tired than I did when using the bypass lopper. I'm glad I bought the Corona and I'm glad I didn't spend more for a higher priced lopper.
1. Well built
2. Easy to use
3. Fair price

UPDATE: After a few uses, the handle grips have moved up on the handles by a couple of inches (2 on one side; 4 on the other). Not a huge deal, but thought I should note it.

Peace.

Cutting brush, works good
Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2009
I recently broke our old trusted lopper and replaced it with this CORONA model. In hindsight I think that the model I previously owned might have been an older CORONA model (it was absolutely fantastic), and that I could perhaps have repaired it with a set of replacement blades. However, by the time that thought went through my head, the garbage had already been picked up - too late for a possible dumpster diving rescue mission. That being said, I couldn't be happier with this one. It has immense cutting power and produces amazingly clean cuts. Also, even when you don't align the lopper perfectly straight, the blades will still not "twist", which is what happened when I tried another "Home Depot" model which was actually more expensive than this one from CORONA. At this time the new lopper is, well, still very new, which might explain the degree of strength it currently takes to open and close it. Loosening the bolts somewhat or a little WD40
might take care of that, but I haven't gotten to it yet as I have just been to busy working the lopper. I cannot say anything bad about this thing, on the contrary: It's a great, sturdy machine for many years of serious backyard work.

I live on 14 acres so you can just imagine the amount of work there is to be done. I had a previous trimmer, exactly the same and it lasted 14 years! I only wish it had an odometer on it to measure the amount of miles this tool has travelled. I was thrilled when I saw that Corona was still making the same trimmer. I highly recommend this and would stake my life on it. That is how confident I am in it's performance and life expectancy. A++++++++

The first Corona FL 3420 I bought lasted approximately 15 years on our well treed acreage. My large armed son finally broke the blade taking on a 2” dead branch on an ash tree. I seen they still make the exact same model so instantly ordered a replacement, the original worked so well I didn’t have to look at other offerings.
