You cant compare this to the Matrix...
For those out there that haven't heard there is a small group of people out there comparing Tron:Legacy to The Matrix. (Yeah I know pretty silly right?) First, let me say I love both Films but, I never would even attempt to compare these two total opposites. Let me point out that The Matrix is pure rated R goodness while Tron is a DISNEY film people! Yes Disney so you already know if there is even a hint of violence in the film it would be mild at best. Newbies tend to forget that Tron:Legacy is a sequel to a film that came out way before there was a Matrix. I saw the original Tron when I was 6 years old on my uncles Laser disc (yeah, back in the stone age) then the Matrix came out around my 19th birthday and nobody was comparing those films at the time. Then here comes along Legacy and some people decide to go all looney bin WHY? all because the only thing similar between the two films is a human being entering a computer generated world and that is it! If you are a fan of the first TRON you will probably dissect the entire TRON:Legacy film but, I think you'll still like the movie overall. My only real complaints was that they could of used the 3-D better, what does that mean? well they don't start using 3-D effects until Sam enters the Grid that's over 15 minutes into the movie. I, like most people out there, would've loved to see Sam's Base jump off of the tower in full 3-D. Even Sam's motorcycle escape & evasion of the bike cop would've been cool in 3-D. I didn't like the fact that Tron:Legacy is actually Part 3 of the story. Part 2 of the story was shown to us in a brief flashback and that story seemed to be way more interesting than the Legacy story. Hopefully the next Tron film will address that flashback or maybe they just wanted us to buy the comics that explained it in TRON:Betrayal. Disney was smart with the overall look of the film. If you haven't seen the original TRON lately then let me tell you they were smart to go with the all black with outline lighting because would you have really paid to see the old look in 3-D? (I don't think so!) Compared to the original TRON, TRON:Legacy is a great modern update and I give it 4 stars for that but, because I like the style and the new direction they are taking the storyline, I'll have to add 1 more star for a total of 5 stars.

I was definitely expecting to be impressed by this movie, since I've always been naturally inclined toward all things sci-fi. I'd seen the trailer and thought it looked like it was worth seeing. I was excited, but I was nowhere near expecting to witness the glory that this film put forth. I went to see it in 3D with my two roommates, and even though they don't share my love of science fiction--all three of us were thoroughly blown away by this movie. I remember the response one of us had directly afterward, and that was just one simple phrase: "Wow. THAT was amazing." The special effects, the plot, the actors, and especially the soundtrack. I really am not kidding when I say that we were all in agreement when we decided that the other 3D movies we'd seen thus far paled in comparison to TRON. Yes, even James Cameron's Avatar.

NOW THESE EFFECTS ARE TRULY SPECIAL

Tron City in this film is even more visually stimulating than Pandora, even if it isn't bursting with color as much as the world of the Nav'i did. For me, the neon lights against a black sky and dark terrain looked much more stunning than the more natural-looking terrain of Pandora or even Wonderland (Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). TRON is truly unique, with the light cycles and light jets that seem to erupt out of thin air, slow-motion derezzing, and gripping, edge-of-your-seat disc battles. And even though it is based on the 1982 film of the same name, its look does not borrow heavily from it.

I FIGHT FOR THE USER!

Sam Flynn, the son of creator Kevin Flynn, goes looking for his father years after he went missing--and finds him trapped in the digital world of his own creation. Together with a program named Quorra that his father had sort of adopted as his own daughter, they set out to stop C.L.U, a creation of Kevin's that has gone rogue and taken matters into his own hands. A fairly simple storyline, but I've got to hand it to Jeff Bridges. He does an excellent job of playing both the protagonist and the antagonist. I also appreciated many of the moral themes that were promoted throughout the movie, such as courage, selflessness, devotion, and family, among others.

Another thing. I was really happy with how awesome and chock-full of action and suspense this film was, without the blood and the gore--but also without the fight sequences seeming cheesy or unrealistic (you know, the whole idea of people being thrown into things or hit with large objects but not really taking any damage). It really shows that a movie CAN be awesome without gory violence, sex, nudity/near nudity, or crude humor.

DAFT PUNK

Last but most definitely not least, is the soundtrack. The soundtrack for this movie, in my opinion, is the best I've heard for a while. It resonates perfectly with every epic moment and makes it ten times more epic. Usually, when I watch a movie, not much attention is devoted to the music. It's just sort of there, playing along in my subconscious mind. But this was different. This was a soundtrack that was actually noticed. Daft Punk is a major part of what made TRON: Legacy so spectacular. Their style of music is just so well suited to the movie, and of course, they did a fantastic job.

THE BOTTOM LINE

TRON is an excellent movie for people of all ages. Even the kids. Both visibly and audibly tantalizing, it is something that will be enjoyed by the entire family, I promise. I highly recommend seeing it in 3D. It'll probably be expensive, but it is beyond worth it. So please, do yourself and a favor and go see TRON: Legacy before it leaves the theaters for good, because I'm pretty sure this will be one of those movies for which the big screen actually makes a significant difference.

Twenty-eight years after Tron first hit cinema screen in 1982, the long awaited sequel Tron: Legacy finally saw the light of day. Given both the advances of special effects and the legacy (no pun intended) of the original film, Tron: Legacy found itself with a high set of expectations before it. Keeping both of those things in mind, how does Legacy stand up as a sequel to the original film?

Let's start by looking at the two retuning cast members from the original film: Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner who both reprise their two roles from the original film. Bridges plays both Kevin Flynn and his digital avatar, the program named CLU. The Flynn of Legacy is quite different from the quirky everyman seen in the original film, this Flynn being more philosophic as well as having a dash of both Bridges' The Dude character and just a bit of Obi-Wan Kenobi thrown in for good measure. While that might make one think the character would be unrecognizable, just the reverse is true as Bridges presents a believable nevertheless as a continuation of the character. CLU is, while wearing Flynn's face from the 1980s, is very much different as he has become a tyrannical ruler bent on creating what is perfection in his own eyes. Boxleitner reprises the roles of Alan Bradley and Tron, both of which are effectively extended cameo appearances but comes across as crucial to the film's plot. Both actors are able to reprise their younger roles thanks to a bit of digital de-aging that for the most part works incredibly well (though some of the shots of the younger Flynn are very noticeable due to the lighting). The result is a nice link back to the original film that nevertheless expands on the original character's.

The majority of the cast though are new characters. Playing Flynn's now grown son Sam is Garrett Hedlund who, like Bridges in the original film, convincingly portrays a fairly normal person sent into a digital world. Outshining him to a certain degree is Olivia Wilde as the program Quorra whose performance perfectly captures what is effectively an innocent abroad character with an action film twist. It also helps that Hedlund and Wilde share a good deal of chemistry between them which helps the film out as well. Also appearing in the supporting cast is an almost unrecognizable Michael Sheen as Castor, James Frain as CLU's henchman Jarvis and Beau Garrett as Gem. The film is also full of countless supporting characters who appear for only a scene or so at a time but immensely help to sell the reality of the film's digital world. All together, the cast serves the film well which is always a plus.

The production values of Legacy are worthy of note for a whole number of reasons. The original production values of Tron from its production design to its costumes and early CGI effects created a vision of a digital world iconic decades later. Iconic yet on the surface dated due to the limitations of 1980s technology. The biggest challenge that Legacy would face would be updating that world for a 21st century audience. In that regard, Legacy succeeds. The film takes the iconic elements of the first film such as the Lightcycles and disc battles but gives them a modern edge. Compare for example the "new" lightcycles with the "old" lightcycle seen later in the film. They're both light cycles but the "new" one has a less plastic feel to it, as if it's been streamlined down to basics. The same is true of the costumes which have the same silhouette but have been given both a dark coloring and the ability to emit actual light (rather than having it more or less pasted on afterwards). Legacy also has a lot more physical sets in its digital world, called "the Grid", which make it perhaps a more believable world with a solid feeling to it. That isn't to downgrade what was done in the original film by any means of course but Legacy takes what was done there and, with nearly three decades of technological advancement, takes it up a level while still remaining true to it.

Last but not least, is the plot and script for Legacy. The original Tron has fairly been called simplistic in terms of its plotting and the same can just as fairly be said about its sequel here. The film, minus some flashbacks, is set twenty-eight years after the original. Kevin Flynn, head of Encom and a man apparently on the brink of some breakthrough, disappeared in 1989. Twenty years later, with Alan Bradley now a relatively minor member of Encom's board and Flynn's son Sam largely uninterested in the company, a mysterious message sends Sam on a course onto the Grid. Legacy follows many of the same beats as the original film in terms of the order of sequences showing off different aspects of the digital world. That isn't to say that it is a rip-off by any means. Legacy, appropriately enough, deals with the theme of legacies throughout. In the real world, Sam and Alan are dealing with Flynn's disappearance twenty years on. The Grid is being directed by CLU towards some secret goal, which CLU hopes will allow him to once and for all overcome Flynn's legacy. Last but not least is Flynn himself who, with Sam's arrival, begins at long last a journey that will see him facing the consequences of actions in a world he has disconnected from. Like the first film, Legacy is a simple plot that embodies some sizeable ideas just beneath the surface.

Where does that leave Legacy then as a sequel? The performances of both returning actors and new actors is on par with that seen in the original film, the production values and effects bring the iconic world of the original into the modern day and the script has the same fault as the original one did in being perhaps overly simplistic in terms of plot while harboring some intriguing ideas. I would argue that, quality wise, Legacy is on par with the original film in terms of pure enjoyment as a sci-fi adventure film. Whether it will be as iconic as the original though is something that only time will tell.

When i saw Tron Legacy i don't believe that i had seen the first Tron much or was a big fan of it per say.But This amazing sequel got me into the franchise.First of all let's get the obvious out of the way.This movie looks stunning visually.No wonder this director got chosen to direct Top Gun maverick.Even though there isnt much in common with the 2 movies except how well the movies are directed and made.Tron legacy wasnt really all that well received i believe when it came out.And even today i dont know if people really appreciate it all that much compare to the original classic but personally i find this sequel underated.Its a perfect sequel to the first one.I know to some it might feel more like a situation where style takes over substance or story.But i find the story is still well suited to follow the first movie.Its the perfect follow up i find.The story makes sense in the way it would continue things like that.In the sequel we follow the story of jeff bridges's son who goes into the world his father created and has to kind of go through the same kind of beats that his father had in the first movie except that everything in the sequel looks way less cheezy and is upgraded to a hundred when it comes to style and look.In car analogy if the first movie was a classic cadillac the sequel is a sleek sexy lamborgini lol.The costumes,the sets,the special effects,the production design....its like the director saw the first movie and said i want a version of that but all upgraded for a modern audience.Even the score is perfect and goes well with the movie.its a perfect match.I love some of the new upgrades.Like the light cycle battle wich is one of the outstanding moments.It is so much nicer than the one if the first movie.The movie's special effects look great except for a de-aged jeff bridges that look a little fake at times but that is expected its not easy to make an actor look like 40 years younger with the computer and have it believable looking at all times.Some scenes look better than others and some look a little odd and creepy looking lol.But since the de-aged bridges in most of the movie plays a bad guy the creepy fx actually ads a scary quality to him that work given the context of the movie.Olivia Wilde is in the movie and she's the added eye candy that is part of the upgraded elements in this overall very sexy sleek looking sequel.I hope they make a third movie one of theses days and build up on what is offered here cause there is lots of potential.Its surprising the movie never got release on 4k cause this is one that could look great with hdr i'm thinking.But 4k aside the movie look good enough on bluray.This is a great transfer from Disney.No dnr.Just a great image with good details and a light natural grain layer.This is a great transfer.Audio is good too.Very boomy in the low end.The score really shines on the bluray.Pick this one up if you like the movie before Disney discontinues it cause we all know how much they like phisical media right?lol.I think we might get a 4k later in the future cause this title seems prime for it but not sure if we will get it from Disney.They might give it to some other boutique label to do instead cause i doubt they will do it for a title that dont seem all that popular.I mean the first movie is liked a lot cause its a classic but not so much the sequel.But then again i dont think the first movie would benefit from a 4k compare to the second one.

De eerste film ging meer over de corrumpering van het Internet, afluisterpraktijken, software piraterij door grote bedrijven en de integratie van statistische kunstmatige intelligentie in de zoekmachines ter vervanging van bibliotheeksystemen met dominantie van de zoeksystemen over de gebruiker als gevolg (Master Control). De gebruiker wordt daarin door de programma's gezien als een God-entiteit, maar ook een probleem voor Master-Control.

Deze film heeft een andere invalshoek. De sequel van TRON richt zich specifiek op de gijzelneming van een enkeling die zich dan als sterkste counter-hacker moet manifesteren en zich in zijn eentje tegen het misdadige systeem keert. Hierbij bevindt de gijzelaar zich in een besturingssysteem dat de beslissingen neemt voor de gebruiker en zich afkeert van de gebruiker.

Wat je specifiek te zien krijgt dat je laat zien dat het om een counter-hacking omgeving gaat zijn de Zombie-threads en de compleet gecorrumpeerde architectuur die UNIX-achtige besturingssystemen bieden, waarbij je ook als je geen autorisatie hebt, je door te drammen toch toegang kan krijgen in enkele gevallen, wat uiteindelijk dan het hele systeem bloot legt.

Psychologisch laat de film te wensen over. Wat wel correct uitgebeeld wordt is de wensen van de gijzelnemers. Het ene kamp compulsieve gijzelnemers wil dat je je situatie accepteert, je erbij neerlegt en je werk en je leven vergeet. Het andere kamp gijzelnemers bestaat uit spelverslaafden die willen dat je continu hun spelletje speelt.

Het gaat fout met de uitwerking van de karakters. De karakters hebben de diepgang van een garnaal en lijken op karakters uit spelletjes die continu van de hak op de tak springen en zonder enige motivatie een complete ommekeer maken in wat ze vinden dat nodig is. Ze komen als het ware zonder inzicht tot inzicht en dat klopt niet.

De film is ook verwarrend omdat het niet duidelijk gemaakt wordt wat het verschil is tussen een user en data bij het omhoogsturen van data door het portaal. Het zou geholpen hebben als de film nog een keer duidelijk zou maken dat de disks data betreffen en de avatars de karakters. De uitwerking van de film laat dusdanig te wensen over dat ik achteraf nog eens moest nadenken over of het correct was en dat haalde me uit de film tijdens het kijken.

Het einde, zonder er iets van weg te geven, was inhoudsloos en oppervlakkig. De complete onderbouwing van het verhaal ontbreekt.

Tron Legacy blijft één van de beste films vind ik. Het Imax beeld blijft vet, en DTS HD Master Audio 7.1 klinkt mooi, spijtig dat Disney enkel een 4k Remaster met Atmos voor Disney Plus uitbrengt en niet voor Blu-ray disc. Keurig verpakt en geleverd.

Fue muy difícil conseguir esta película y me alegra por fin tenerla conmigo, tiene una imagen excelente y tanto el dvd como el blu ray cuentan con el doblaje al español latino, además, en el blu Ray cuentan con el la versión en ingles 2.0 y el 5.0 Máster Audio, lo que da un gran valor, otro detalle es que gran parte de la película viene con esas barras negras, pero ciertas secuencias harán el salto al formato IMAX, por lo que el disfrute de la película se puede ver interrumpido si se le toma mucha importancia, recalcó también que cuenta con código para su descarga digital, pero no es válido para México. Si eres fan de la saga, el contenido extra repartido en ambos discos te entretenera bastante, fue una gran compra, aunque si se tomo su tiempo para llegar, pero vale completamente la pena.

Lo único que me entristeció fue que llegó sin slipcover y es que se nota que la película ya tiene sus años, no haría nada mal una remasterización o posiblemente un salto al 4K
