Devotion was amazing! It was a great story about how our military service members can be great heroes because of their love and devotion to family. The action was cool. It had some funny scenes. Without doubt I strongly recommend this film! Have a great day, and goooo Devotion!

The story is unquestionably admirable. The problem is it's made a slow movie devoid of much action. So if you are looking for a great story about friendship you might really like this movie, otherwise it will be boring.

What really impressed me about this film was that the characters were not the stereotypes one usually sees in American films about military subjects. One expects pilots in movies to be arrogant hotshots, and one expects treatments of race to be something along the lines of racist attitudes being replaced by mutual respect as a result of the display of courage. Instead we have a white aviator, not excessively full of himself (Glen Powell playing Tom Hudner) encountering a black wingman (Jonathan Majors playing Jesse Brown), and pretty much choosing to treat him as, gee, a fellow human being and a fellow naval aviator. Hudner isn't perfect, he doesn't fully understand Brown, but then he's aware he doesn't fully understand Brown. As for Jonathan Majors, he delivers a great performance as a very complicated individual - nothing stereotypical in his Jesse Brown. Instead of being the stereotypical hotshot, he's dealing with fears and worries - how to make ends meet as an ensign with a wife and daughter, how not to fail, how not to crash and die. Particularly compelling are the scenes where he insults himself in front of the mirror, throwing every racial slur he's received back at himself. It's his way of dealing. There is very good integration of live footage of still-flying period aircraft, and the film makes it very clear to the viewer the challenges of carrier flying, particularly with prop fighters with excessively high torque. Christina Jackson gave a warm portrayal of Daisy Brown - again, not a stereotype! And I particularly liked Thomas Sadoski's portrayal of their squadron leader, Dick Cevolli - not an overbearing, walk-on-water my-way commander, but a real guy who cares about his men. My experience in the military is that most people are NOT like Hollywood's stereotypes, so it's great to see a movie where the characters are like real people, or rather like real people called on to be extraordinary. It's a very respectful telling of a heroic American story.

As a 25 year Navy Veteran I was very excited to see a movie made about the late, great Jesse L. Brown. It did not disappoint. I liked it because the movies director J.D. Dillard was determined to create practical effects using real aircraft as much as possible, including several F4U Corsairs, an AD Skyraider, two F8F Bearcat fighters, one of the few remaining flyable HO5S-1 helicopters, and a MiG-15. Which is always better than CGI IMHO. I liked seeing the real deal planes in other words.

Haven’t watched the movie yet but I am excited to watch this true story movie.
I have a connection to this movie being my uncle flew the Corsair off the US Valley forge air craft carrier and was shot down in Korea and became a prisoner of war after not being able to be picked up before being captured and marched to a prison camp.
I was fortunate to meet Jesse Browns wife and daughter last year in DC at our annual mia, Kia, pow meeting.
Quite an honor.
