Stewart Granger gives a personal look into his life and the decisions that he made both as an actor and as a human being. His honesty about himself is humorous. His explanations concerning the choices that he made in the film industry are understandable. This book is absolutely delightful. A must read. I only wish that his life after 1960 had been included in his autobiography.

I thought this was a great autobiography by one of my favorite actors. Lots of inside info. along with a funny sense of humor. I couldnt put it down til I was done reading it as I just wanted to hear what happened next. I’ve read many actor’s books from the golden age of Hollywood, but this one was a favorite.

In his autobiography, Granger talks candidly about his personal and professional life in a witty and self effacing manner. Here is a man who knew his own mind and was not afraid to take on the directors, producers, and all-powerful studio heads in a cut-throat industry during Hollywood's Golden Era. Most of his autobiography deals with his professional life and the various productions he was involved in. He often expresses frustration with the characters he was type casted in for inferior and unchallenging rolls, as well as the legal confines of industry contracts as an star actor.
Granger speaks of the two women he was married to at that point in his life, though is vague about why the marriages failed. The end of his book seems to end abruptly and the reader is left hanging. A second autobiography about his later life would have been welcomed.

A very entertaining autobiography. Jimmy was a good, kind and very charitable friend of ours. Have been waiting
for years to obtain his book. Ordered it when it was still obtainable, but book store
failed to alert me and it was sold. After that, it was out of print. Very happy now.

I've loved Stewart Granger ever since I saw him in King Solomon's Mines. I wanted to learn more about him so I purchased this book. I definitely went into this book thinking highly of him. The book is easy to read and very often times extremely funny. However, the whole of the book seems to consist of constant anecdotes of his heroism. He is either the hero or the victim in every scenario. He leaves out anything that would reflect badly on him, such as his wife, Jean Simmons, having an affair with Richard Burton or addressing the nasty comments made about him by Eleanor Parker on the set of Scaramouche. He rarely refers to his children, and even occasionally refers to them as his wife's children, e.x. Jean and her daughter (not our daughter), but then speaks of himself as a "family man." Anytime he has an affair, it's the fault of being away from his wife and therefore can't be helped. I particularly disliked the part where his first wife was unable to have children unless she literally laid in bed for seven months and he felt he should have affairs because basically - men have needs. I began to view him as a complete narcissist. One almost feels like he's writing about a romantic leading character from a movie. Some of his stories seem almost unbelievable to be honest. I finished the book with a completely different view of Stewart Granger and not for the better. I felt extremely sorry for his poor wives.

A lire
