Theatre group 'privileged' to produce hit musical

An amateur dramatics society said it was a "huge privilege" to be one of 11 groups offered the opportunity to put on a production of Les Misérables.

The Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society (NNOS), which is entering its centenary year, has been chosen to take part in a project to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show, which is based in 19th century France and produced by Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

The production will run at the Norwich Theatre Royal from 2 to 6 July 2025.

Linda Campbell, vice chair and production manager at NNOS, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for our local theatre companies and we are very excited to be working together on this project."

The group will be working in collaboration with, external Threshold Theatre Company, Sound Ideas Theatre Company and Echo Youth Theatre.

The 'Let the people sing' project will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Les Misérables.

Ms Campbell said: "This is the first time adult amateur companies have been given the chance to produce the show.

"We have had to keep it under wraps for a few months which hasn't been easy. Especially while planning ahead, working to put together our creative team, as well as inviting other local groups to collaborate with us."

Alongside Norwich, WhatsOnStage reported , externalthe other 10 cities chosen are Belfast, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Nottingham, Porthcurno in Cornwall and Swansea.

The company will also produce a show of Singin' in the Rain in 2025.
