Charity asks people to walk barefoot on Lego bricks

A charity has asked people to raise money by subjecting themselves to a painful challenge - walking barefoot on Lego bricks.

About 80 fundraisers have agreed to step gingerly across 2m (6.5ft) of tiny bricks to support the Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals Charity (NNHC).

Money raised will help provide parents with more places to stay on-site if their children are in hospital.

"We wanted something that really resonated with the children's hospital. Anybody who has ever lived with or been around children playing with Lego knows how painful it is," said Remy Allen-Martin, NNHC's fundraising coordinator.

She said staying at the hospital where a child was being treated helped families who otherwise faced long journeys.

It meant they could "take a breath of fresh air", and also get more emotional and practical support.

NNHC said it wanted to do something different to a fire walk - which involves stepping on hot coals - so came up with the Lego bricks challenge.

The brick walk takes place at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital on Wednesday 10 July.

NNHC's fundraising campaign has an initial target of £500,000, but the eventual aim is to reach £1m.
