Right time for us to say goodnight.

It has been a tragic day with a shuttle bus striking and killing a pedestrian near the entrance to Valhalla golf club and one we can't remember the likes of before with the subsequent arrest of world number one Scottie Scheffler, in an unrelated incident.

Leader Xander Schauffele after maintaining his lead on day two: "I just hung tough. I felt like I just tried to hit as many good shots after good shots as possible. I felt like I was able to do that, and despite the mud and the delay, I felt like I really just got in my zone there and made a lot of good swings. So I'm proud of that.

"When you haven't won a golf tournament in a few years, you have to be pretty resilient. I'm just patient and trying to play the best golf I can and stay out of my own way. I know I'm playing really good golf right now, and all can I could do is focus on my process and my talk with Austin [Kaiser, his caddie], and that's about it.

"As soon as 62 was posted, there's just blood in the water. I feel like everyone feels they can shoot low now. That's just kind of how it goes out here. I think it definitely helps to keep the head down, at least for now. It's only two rounds."

Viktor Hovland after his round of 66 moved him to eight under par and into the top 10 at the US PGA Championship: "It was a nice score. Very happy with where I'm at. The game hasn't been all too easy the last few months, so happy to build some momentum and shoot two nice rounds in a row.

"I obviously did a lot of good stuff today - I made some birdies out there. Chipped the ball really well. Made a couple putts. We're definitely trending."

Two-time champion Justin Thomas speaking after a four under 67: "My game feels good. I played really, really well today. I felt it's nice to get off to a good start and kind of get the crowd into it a little bit.

"Definitely would have liked to make some more birdies on that back nine, but I made a nice one there on 15, a good up and down on 16. I feel like I'm doing a lot of really good things, I just have to just kind of keep doing what I'm doing and hope we can get on another run and shoot a low one this weekend."

Collin Morikawa after shooting a six-under round of 65: "I know I still have it in me [to win], and that's what's exciting. At Augusta, it sucked to finish like that and it sucked to lose to Scottie, but at the end of the day, I knew I had three more majors coming up and I needed to prep and get things as sharp as possible.

"No one can tell me how good or bad I'm going to play. It's just knowing what's inside my head in between the ears, just saying, 'OK, we're going to go do it'. It doesn't matter if it feels good or not. That's what I've learned. You figure it out with what you have and play golf."

Right that's your lot for the second round as play is suspended due to darkness albeit it's a case of you've started so you can finish for Bryson DeChambeau, who clearly wants to get this done this evening.

And the American takes a par at the 18th to end the day at nine under for the championship.

England's Tyrrell Hatton launches his second miles left on the 18th. Not what he'd have been looking for at all. His third isn't that much better but he gets up and down from the left edge of the green to save his par.

Sahith Theegala narrowly misses a birdie chance from 16 feet or so to remain two shots off the lead.

Meanwhile, Tony Finau, who was in bother off the tee, comes up a huge second shot and then chips on to leave a five footer for birdie which he rolls calmly in.

Such a good round for Bob MacIntyre but he's walking off cursing after missing that putt.

Two bogeys to finish and he's dropped outside the top 10.

He'll still sign for two under for today and be in a later group on Saturday.

Bob MacIntyre is a touch heavy-handed on his second shot into the ninth green and compounds it with another error from the fringe.

He's left himself a grisly 10 feet to save par and prevent a good round from unravelling at the end.

What an excellent round it has been for Bryson DeChambeau who has found another birdie at the 16th and grazed the edge of the hole on 17.

As the shadows lengthen around Valhalla, The Scientist's pink shirt fades into the sunset but he is looming large on the leaderboard.

Up into a share of fourth alongside Scottie Scheffler.

Tony Finau finds the rough on the left. Sahith Theegala zips his ball into the thick stuff on the right. What a time for their drivers to let them down.

Splitting them on the left of the fairway sits England's Tyrrell Hatton, looking for his fifth birdie of the day or maybe more.

A wee expletive from Bob MacIntyre after pushing his tee shot on the short eighth way left of the green. He's going to have to conjure up something special from way down below the level of the putting surface.

It's a bit of a scruffy finish from the Scot. He scrambled well on the seventh, can he do so again on the eighth? It's a 7/10 chip up, his ball coming to rest eight feet from the hole...

...par putt pushed a touch. Shot gone.

Lovely bunker shot saves the day or more appropriately a par for Tyrrell Hatton on the 17th, with the Englishman able to drop in a par putt from no more than a couple of feet.

Tony Finau is also so close to getting back to eight under but sees his birdie putt stay up.. Can he or Sahith Theegala finish on a high note on the 18th?

Big birdie finish for Brooks Koepka. After those two bogeys, he needed something to help make his evening meal taste a little better.

The three-time US PGA winner knocks in from eight feet.

Jordan Spieth, who needs to win just one US PGA title to complete the career Grand Slam might be a bit too far back but he's also birdied the last and will start Saturday eight shots off the lead.

Bob MacIntyre seems to have been on the seventh hole for about three hours. It is a 590-yard par five, but even so...

What has the Scot been up to? Well, his drive went down the middle but he rather pushed his second right of the fairway. So far right in fact that he's in a hospitality area.

Bob is electing to play off the verandah - he's got about 80 yards to the green but can't find the dancefloor and is left hacking out of greenside rough. He can only get his ball to about 18 feet.

Huge par putt coming up. Boom! Kicks down the front door. Terrific saver and a fist pump to accompany it.

Two to play and you'll bet he'll want to get finished tonight.

Tiger Woods never recovered from a pair of triple bogeys early in his second round and has been speaking to the media after missing the cut: "Unfortunately my scores did not indicate how the people treated me and how great a week I had.

"I need to play more. Unfortunately, I just haven't played a whole lot of tournaments, and not a whole lot of tournaments on my schedule either. Hopefully everything will somehow come together in my practice sessions at home and be ready for Pinehurst [the US Open in June].

"I need to clean up my rounds but physically, yes, I am better than I was a month ago. I still have more ways to go, lots of improvement to go physically, and hopefully my team and I can get that done."

Viktor Hovland makes it back to the clubhouse before darkness. The Norwegian holes a birdie putt on the last to cap a fine round that keeps him right in the hunt.

In fact it's birdies all round as playing partners Hideki Matsuyama and Cam Smith also get down in four on the par-five closer.

Tony Finau ends up dropping a shot on the 16th after getting his feet wet off the tee, as his ball heads miles out right.

It's starting to get a little murky out at Valhalla. The sun is due to set around 9pm local time, so in about 45 minutes.

Brooks Koepka biffs his ball down the final hole but rather swipes his tee from the ground in disgust after watching his ball plunge into yet more rough.

A horror putt from Brooks Koepka on the 17th and that's successive bogeys for the defending champion. It was no more than three feet and it didn't even graze the edge, straight right off the bat.
