1971: The 50th RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The 50th Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show was held in May 1971.

The garden show had been held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea since 1913, but was cancelled during periods of war.

Evangeline Bruce, whose husband was the former American Ambassador in London, gave her name to a rose at the event, alongside cosmetic executive Mala Rubinstein.
