Giavellotto became just the third horse to win back-to-back Yorkshire Cups on Friday.

Aidan O'Brien's horse Tower Of London was the 7-4 favourite with Willie Mullins' Vauban also among those expected to fight for the win.

However, jockey Oisin Murphy won by four and three-quarter lengths aboard Giavellotto to deliver trainer Marco Botti the win.

"Marco is having a terrific season," Murphy told ITV Racing.

"[He] has trained great horses in the past, and his handling of this fella has been amazing."

Giavellotto's win on day three of the Dante Festival in York saw him join Ardross and Stradivarius in winning successive runnings of the Yorkshire Cup.

"Ascot is definitely not on the agenda as the Gold Cup trip stretches him too much," Botti said after the win.

"We thought the Irish St Leger would have been his target last season, so we'll probably work backwards from that again. We wouldn't be in a rush as this was his big target in England."
