Closing out any tennis match is not easy, no matter where it is, but especially on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

    *Wawrinka 6-4 6-4 4-1 Murray

40-30. Stan Wawrinka has been brilliant at closing things out tonight, but he gets it all wrong this time, double-faulting to force deuce.

I think it's a match the crowd have enjoyed. They've not got totally into it with it not being the contest we expected. We are about 80% full I would say.

If this was baseball the mercy rule would be applied...

Still, stranger things have happened in tennis.

Murray wins the first point on Wawrinka's serve, but his opponent collects the next two with winners.

If this was WWE, Murray would have tapped out by now. If this was Boxing, the corner would have already thrown the towel in.

And Andy Murray does get on the scoreboard after Stan Wawrinka goes long with a forehand again.

It does feel like a consolation point though.

You can't say Andy Murray isn't getting support from the crowd. They're cheering on all his winners, although they're few and far between now.

He does string two together before Stan Wawrinka hits a forehand long to move to 40-15. This to avoid a bagel?

Ace from Stan Wawrinka. He holds to love.

We've only played 15 minutes in this third set and the 39-year-old is already only two games away.

    He, Stan Wawrinka, really is.

He's not giving Andy Murray an inch. The intensity level has completely dropped as the Swiss races to a 40-0 lead.

Playing over five sets is a different ball game. Mentally you approach it differently but Wawrinka is going about his business tonight.

Such a shame for Murray that he's been playing in the era of 3 of the greatest. Being between 4th and 1st best compared to those guys is no small feat: he's had a great career, and should be so proud. But perhaps Wimbledon 2024 is where it should come to an end.

There is definitely a danger that this match runs away from Andy Murray very quickly.

This match is sliding away from Andy Murray. He ends up in the wrong position and sees a forehand land pretty much underneath him.

Murray is looking exasperated but not angry. He's maybe got his reality head on tonight.

    Wawrinka 6-4 6-4 2-0 Murray*

30-30 on Stan Wawrinka's serve, this is it for Andy Murray.

The pair meet at the net but rather than going down the line for a certain winner, Murray makes the wrong call, firing into Wawrinka's body and allowing the Swiss back into the rally.

The former champ wins the point and then holds to 30 with an ace.

It's horrible to think someone looks at drawing Andy Murray and thinks that's a good draw. It's a strange thing to say.
