It’s the perfect time for a debate on turning the clocks back

There are undeniably strong arguments for ditching this tradition

The clocks go back this weekend, which means an extra hour in bed on Sunday, and lighter mornings, hooray.

The down side, of course, is that it will get dark earlier — and earlier, and earlier, as we move into winter. Soon we’ll be into the really short days where the light seems to fade from just after lunchtime.
