Why in God’s name do we still have blasphemy laws on the statute book in Northern Ireland?

Every other region of the UK, as well as the Republic of Ireland, has rid itself of these ancient, absurd pieces of legislation, which can play no part in a modern democracy. The days of people being branded, flogged or pierced through the tongue with a flaming hot poker for the supposed crime of blasphemy are long gone, at least in this country.
