Today, Brendan Murphy lives in the hills above Omeath in County Louth.
But on the 24 February 2022, he was living in Irpin, a small city close to Kyiv.
He awoke to news that Russia had launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Brendan and his family got in his car and drove for Ireland, trying their best to avoid the fighting.
Russian troops reached Irpin three days later – they were driven out after a month.
Brendan has now published a book about his experience ‘War in Ukraine: An Irishman's Journey’.
He joins Ciarán Dunbar to tell his experience of how his life in Ukraine turned into the life of a civilian in a warzone.
