Cross-border bid to host Tour de France’s Grand Depart pulled over Stormont’s budget woes

Ireland has withdrawn its bid to host the Grand Depart of the Tour de France for 2026 or 2027 — due to budget constraints at Stormont.

In October 2022, the governments of Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland submitted an expression of interest with Tour organisers ASO to stage the opening weekend of cycling’s biggest race, preferably in 2026 or 2027.
