One of the main themes coming from the Ireland women’s squad has been how different the set-up is, and one piece of evidence to back that up is the changing role of Sam Monaghan.
In 2023 the Meath lock wasn’t part of the leadership group, a bizarre exclusion in keeping with a general arc of muddled decisions. Meanwhile, at her club Gloucester-Hartpury, Monaghan captained the team a few times in a season in which they won the Premier 15s.
