*Reference Librarians - Information Services Department

The BA Information Services Department announces the acceptance of a new group of young volunteers for a period of three months, in addition to one month of training (from 4 August to 30 November 2024).

If you have a university degree and the desire to volunteer to simulate the work environment and interact with the public, and are proficient in the use of computer programs, you can join us for volunteering and training, as the training will include various lectures and workshops in human development, self-development, communication skills, teamwork, etc, which will contribute to refining your potential and talents, while giving you the skills required for the labor market, with the aim of achieving the Library's mission in serving scientific research and community development.

Volunteering includes working at the information desks in the Main Library, the Arts and Multimedia Library and the Maps Library, as well as the Membership desks and the Closed Stacks Services desk.

Those who wish to join the volunteering program can fill out the form in the announcement (a CV, personal photo and copy of the national ID card should be attached within the form). Candidates who will be called for an interview will be notified by email.

*Volunteering Opportunities at the Visits Department

The BA Visits Department receives volunteers in the Guided Tours and Reception Sections on a regular basis (a new group of volunteers is selected every few months).

 

Tours Guides

  • The guide takes visitors (individuals and groups) of different nationalities on tours of the Library in different languages (Arabic, English or French) during which he/she explaining the history and services of the BA.
  • The guide also explains the different culturama shows (historical shows such as the Sadat Show and the Fatimid Cairo Panorama).

 

Receptionists

  • The receptionist books guided tours for individuals or groups of different nationalities, organizes tour dates and registers them into the Library's database.
  • He/she also responds to visitors' inquiries, directs them to the various Library sections and receives suggestions and complaints from the public.

 

Required Qualifications for Both Opportunities

  • General knowledge of historical events and their causes.
  • Proficiency in at least one foreign language.
  • Neat and formal appearance.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Fast learner and reliable.
  • Flexibility when needed regarding working hours (shifts, weekends and public holidays).

 

The training period consists of 200 hours. Volunteers receive certificates at the end of the volunteering period.

Required age: 19 – 29 years old, and good appearance is required.
