The Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program publishes a quarterly count of employment and wages reported by employers covering more than 95 percent of U.S. jobs, available at the county, MSA, state and national levels by industry.

From first quarter 2023 to first quarter 2024, Santa Clara, CA, had the largest county percentage increase in average weekly wages at 14.6 percent. Monterey, CA, and St. Johns, FL, had the largest county over-the-year percentage increases in employment in March 2024 at 4.8 percent each.

Employment and wages up in largest counties, March 2023 to March 2024

Nine of the 10 largest counties had over-the-year increases in employment from March 2023 to March 2024. Maricopa County (part of the Phoenix metropolitan area), Arizona, had the largest over-the-year employment percentage gain (+2.6 percent).
