U.S. import prices decrease 0.4% in May; export prices fall 0.6%

Prices for U.S. imports declined 0.4 percent in May after an increase of 0.9 percent in April. U.S. export prices decreased 0.6 percent in May following a 0.6-percent advance the previous month. Over the past year, import prices rose 1.1 percent and export prices increased 0.6 percent.

Export air passenger fares fell 2.5 percent for the year ended in May 2024, due in part to an 11.6-percent decrease in Latin American/Caribbean and a 6.1-percent decrease in Asian fares. Import air passenger fares also fell, decreasing at a rate of 1.6 percent over the past 12 months. read more »

Historic coffee prices percolated after a bitter global supply crisis

Americans drink more coffee each day than any other beverage—including tap water. Since January 2021, U.S. coffee importers have faced an escalating cost for the hot commodity. Import prices increased just over 65 percent in less than 2 years.
