The M5 is partially blocked following an accident which has led to more than eight miles of traffic jams. The incident happened near the Sedgemoor Services between J22 and J21 at around 2pm today.

Traffic management site Inrix said there are queues halfway up to Bridgwater North on the M5 northbound as a result of the crash.

A spokesman for Inrix said: "The M5 Northbound is partially blocked. There is queueing traffic for eight miles due to an accident after Sedgemoor Services. There is congestion halfway to J23 at Bridgwater North."

M5 clears following crash

All lanes have now reopened fully on the M5 northbound. Traffic monitoring site Inrix confirmed that the incident which was reported to the police at 1.50pm this afternoon and involved two vehicles, has now been cleared.

One lane was blocked as aresult with caused some eight miles of tailbacks between J22 just past the Sedgemoor Services and J21.

Two vehicles involved say police

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the collision.

A spokesman for the force said th call came in at 1.5pm but the road was not closed as it is classed as serious. He said one lane may been blocked as a result of the collision which is what has been causing the delays.

No injuries have been reported.
