The Great Bristol Run takes place on the weekend, with some 15,000 runners set to take to the streets around the city to embark on the family runs, 10K and half marathon events. Taking place on Sunday, May 19, event organisers say running places have officially sold out.
And with the running route passing through some of the busiest parts of Bristol, if you plan on venturing to the centre or the like, it's worth taking a look at the handy guide below as journeys are likely to take you longer, and many key routes will be closed.
We've made a list of every road closure confirmed by event organisers at the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run, including pedestrian access and when and how residents can access (and park) their cars. All information is correct at time of writing but is subject to change...

What you need to know
Here is some key information motorists and road users will need to know about the running events taking place on Sunday, May 19, and how it will impact traffic, parking and more:
- Clifton Suspension Bridge will remain open at all times
- Rolling road closures will be in place for the event as per the colour coded map and zones found on this document (and below)
- The AJ Bell Great Bristol Run will start form 9am and be followed by multiple wave starts
- All roads will be reopened `by 5pm, if not before. The reopening times listed are a guide and are subject to change due to operational requirements
- If you require your vehicle during closure times, it is recommended you park outside of the road closure area
- Cars parked on closed roads may be uplifted if parked in suspended spaces and no movement of cars is permitted during road closures. Warning signage and 'No Parking' cones will identify these areas
- If your vehicle is uplifted, it will be moved to Portwall Lane Car Park or the SS Great Britain car park, depending on which is nearest. You can contact parking services with queries on the day by calling 0117 903 8070.
Zone 1 closures
Anchor Road will be closed between 4am and 5pm.
Lime Kiln Road/Canons Way residents will be able to enter and/or exit via Partition Street/Lower College Street and across Anchor Road until 8.30am and after 12.30pm, once it is safe to move vehicles.
Zone 2 closures
Hotwell Road outbound of the city to Humphry Davy Way will be closed between 6.30am and 1.15pm.
Access to Dock Gate Lane, Pembroke Place, Rownham Mead, Charles Place, Oakfield Road and Merchants Road will be restricted between closure times.
Vehicles will be permitted to exit streets and drive towards Jacobs Wells Roundabout on Hotwell Road until 8.30am. Hotwell Road will remain open to traffic at all times on the inbound to city side of the road, towards Jacobs Wells Roundabout.
Zone 3 closures
Hotwell Road at Bennett Way to A4162 Sylvan Way, including A4 Portway and Bridge Valley Road, will be closed between 6am and 2.45pm.
Residents with properties located on The Portway between Sylvan Way and Riverleaze are able to use a vehicle lane installed for the event. Residents are permitted to enter at the Sylvan Way junction on to The Portway and exit onto Riverleaze. Residents are asked not to park cars on the road to ensure access can be maintained.
Zone 4 closures
Avon Crescent, McAdam Way, Brunel Lock Road, Brunswick Place, Cumberland Road, Wapping Road, Gas Ferry Road, Hanover Place, Mardyke Ferry Road, Smeaton Road, Ashton Avenue and Commercial Road will be closed between 5.30am and 2.45pm.
Residents will be able to exit until 8.30am, after this time vehicle movement is prohibited, unless prior arrangements have been made with the event organisers.
If you require your car between 8.30am and 2.45pm, it is recommended that you park outside of the road closure area.
Avon Crescent can exit onto Brunel Way Southbound at all times.
Zone 5 closures
Wapping Road, The Grove, Prince Street and Queen Square will be closed between 6am and 3.15pm.
The internal pathway in Queen Square will be part of the course. Pedestrian access around the square will be maintained throughout.
The Grove, Prince Street, Wapping Road and Queen Square residents will be able to exit until 8.45am, after this time vehicle movement is prohibited unless prior arrangements have been made with the event organisers.
Zone 6 closures
Redcliffe Hill (inbound traffic), Redcliffe Way from Redcliffe Bascule Bridge towards Temple Circus, Redcliffe Street, Three Queens' Lane, St Thomas Street from Phippen Street to Three Queens' Lane, Victoria Street, Mitchell Lane, Counterslip, Queen Street, Castle Street, Lower Castle Street, Broad Weir, Newgate, Wine Street and High Street will be closed between 5.30am and 3.45pm.
Residents will be able to exit until 8.45am, after this time vehicle movement is prohibited, unless prior arrangements have been made with the event organisers. If you require your car between 8.45am and 3.45pm, it is recommended you park outside of the road closure area.
Zone 7 closures
Baldwin Street, Marsh Street, Broad Quay, Colston Avenue, St Augustine's Parade, Park Street/College Green (access only as far as Anchor Road and the Marriott Hotel), Lewin's Mead, Christmas Street and Quay Street will be closed between 7am and 4.30pm.
Vehicle access into The Centre is restricted during closure time. Residents will be able to exit until 8.30am, after this time vehicle movement is prohibited unless prior arrangements have been made with the event organisers.
If you require your car between 8.30am and 4.30pm, it is recommended you park outside of the road closure.
