Bristol will be kicking off Pride month with a bang this year as drag queens lead a workout to mark the start of the celebrations. Taking place at Lost Horizon on June 1, the Drag Queen Workout will be run by two queens, UGLY and Miss Venus Wailer who have both performed internationally and have even taken to the stage at Love Saves the Day.

Costing £11.55 per person, the event will take place for two hours, between 10am and 12pm with the last entry being admitted at 10aam. On the Eventbrite website, the event description states: “We join forces with our dynamic duo, UGLY & Venus, for a blend of fitness, disco, and sheer fabulousness. This is a one-of-a-kind, high-energy session where you'll strike a pose, learn to stretch like a queen and laugh your way into the morning.”

But the fun doesn’t stop there, after you’ve completed the workout everyone will have the chance to take part in their ‘legendary disco queen catwalk’. So you can strut your stuff while having a laugh with your friends.

Speaking to the BBC Venus, who originally hails from Venezuela shared why the workouts are an amazing thing to be a part of. She said: “We feel we have spread the joy of exploration through the workouts. And the people that join us are great. They allow us to make them laugh, move with us, shake out some stress and lift their self-esteem; that’s what drag is all about.”

While UGLY explained that the workout helps ‘reinforce the message that you have every right to be unashamedly you’. If you fall in love with dancing like a queen then you don’t have to stop with just one workout, the pair run actual classes for the public to get involved in. And better yet, the pair will be making an appearance at this year’s Bristol Pride festival along with other big names from the drag world, Georgia and Ladytron.

Bristol’s Pride month will properly kick off on June 29 with Pride Day itself taking place on The Downs on the afternoon of July 13 after the parade through the city centre has finished.
