Organization Name: Emgage
Headquarters: Washington, D.C.
About: Emgage empowers Muslim Americans by promoting political literacy and civic engagement in Muslim American communities. Through education, engagement, and empowerment, Emgage strives to build a community of equitable, knowledgeable, and motivated citizens.
In November 2019, Emgage kicked off its 2020 Census campaign with a webinar and Q&A town halls in Muslim-majority communities. Since then, through digital engagement and activities like phone banking and texting, Emgage has met Muslim Americans where they are to provide them with the information they need to make the decision to respond to the 2020 Census.
Emgage’s census outreach has included Facebook videos, webinars, virtual talks by Muslim community and elected leaders, a virtual Ramadan celebration, FAQs on the Emgage website, and even 2020 Census stickers on packaged meals for those in need.
"America is changing fast. But one thing that doesn't change is that we all do better when our communities are safe, strong, and healthy. The last time we had a census was 2010, and our communities have changed dramatically since then. It is imperative that the 2020 Census capture that change. A good census is the first step in making sure that the demographic picture of our country is reflective of the beauty on the ground."
—Nabila Mansoor, Census Director and Executive Director, Emgage Texas
