For #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, we’re highlighting our Supporting Gun Violence Survivors panel at #ReeveSummit2024. This panel featured Chris Hilderbrant, who helps lead Rochester Spinal Association’s Gun Violence Survivors Support Group, as well as members Ralph Norman and Rahsaan Wise. Namel Norris of @4WheelCityGram also shared how he uses music to advocate for change. A huge thank you to all panelists, and to Reeve’s Public Policy Manager Angel Heinz for moderating!
Studies show that gun violence results in nearly twice as many injuries as casualties. Injuries can include paralysis and long-term disability, although research documenting the extent of this needs to be prioritized.

Posted @withregram • @goodshepherdrehab Good Shepherd Rehabilitation is proud to announce that we have been awarded $25,000 as part of the @reevefoundation National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC) 2023 Direct Effect 2nd Cycle Quality of Life grants.
The grant will support continuing to provide specially trained exercise physiologist services at Optimal Fitness at Good Shepherd in Allentown — the only adaptive fitness center within a 95-mile radius of the Lehigh Valley.
Guss has been an Optimal Fitness at Good Shepherd member since his spinal cord injury in 2023. When Guss started at the gym, he had trouble walking on his own; today, he’s a dedicated gym member who is able to walk without an assistive device.
“I’m starting to get addicted here,” Guss said of Optimal Fitness. “I come twice a week and spend an additional hour to use the electric bike. I love coming here to work hard and get stronger.”
