A luxury holiday resort is set to unveil dozens of new high-end villas this year as part of a huge expansion plan. Una St Ives resort near Carbis Bay has launched five high-end villas with private hot tubs with plans for 22 more by the end of the year.

The villas are part of a phased, multi-million-pound investment in the resort, which was acquired by Kingfisher Resorts in 2016. Two years ago, Una St Ives director James Hemming told CornwallLive that the resort was looking to create 93 new villas and 55-luxury apartments as part of a £60 million investment that could create 300 local jobs.

He said the latest round of developments includes a heated outdoor lido swimming pool, which opened in December 2022, and new al fresco CARGO, an outdoor BBQ and poolside dining space launched at the beginning of May this year. This complements the existing leisure facilities and award-winning Una Kitchen.

Mr Hemming added: "It’s been fantastic to see the first villas take shape and bring to life the vision that Kingfisher Resorts had when they acquired Una St Ives."

Designed by award-winning Dyer Architects and built with locally sourced materials, Mr Hemming said that the villas’ textured palette of stone, timber and glass aim to feel classically Cornish, with a contemporary twist. Each villa’s design and positioning have been planned to embrace the area’s world-famous artists’ light.

He said that every detail in each villa has been thoughtfully designed. From the sympathetic landscaping to the careful placement of the properties themselves, which nestle into the natural fall of the land to maximise privacy and views. The new properties include original paintings on the walls from former Falmouth University student now London-based illustrator Jordan Amy Lee.

The first phase of Una St Ives was built in 2015 and was acquired by Kingfisher Resorts in 2016. Aside from the villas, the resort includes 29 lodges - a blend of one, two, three and four-bed properties with solar panels, sedum roofs and cedar cladding as well as lamb's wool insulation and triple glazed windows - a main Atrium building with a spa, leisure club and restaurant as well as the new lido swimming pool, and al fresco bar and grill.

There are plans for a further 55 apartments, a total of 93 holiday villas and a central Piazza with a bar, restaurant and further leisure facilities to follow. This will make it the largest luxury resort in the South West, helping to cement Una St Ives as the flagship holiday destination in Cornwall.

Mr Hemming added: "Coupled with the enhanced leisure facilities, Una St Ives is on course to becoming one of the region’s premier holiday destinations."
