Railway lines are blocked this morning (May 21) after a person was reportedly hit by a train near Stansted Airport. The incident was first reported at around 6.30am.

Emergency services are on the scene and disruption is expected until further notice. This affects services between Stratford and Bishops Stortford and between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge/Cambridge North/Ely.

Greater Anglia has warned that services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised by up to 40 minutes. Passengers are being advised to check journeys before travelling.

All lines reopened

All railway lines have now reopened following the earlier incident. However, some delays still remain and some services could be cancelled.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: "Following a person hit by a train between Bishops Stortford and Stansted, all lines have now reopened. Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 11:00."

Rail replacement vehicles on affected line

Rail replacement vehicles are currently being sourced to operate between Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport / Audley End.. London Underground are accepting Greater Anglia tickets between Liverpool Street and Kings Cross.

Great Northern services are accepting Greater Anglia ticket holders between Kings Cross and Cambridge and Thameslink services are accepting Greater Anglia ticket holders between Farringdon, St Pancras and Cambridge.

Delays of up to 40 minutes

Network Rail have reported that there are delays of up to 40 minutes on the lines while emergency services carry out work.

Greater Anglia have said that train services from Cambridge will terminate at Audley End, but at present there is no service between Audley End and London Liverpool Street.
