Parliament approved a 60-day state of emergency for the entire country in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, following a request from the government.

Moldova will now have a special system for going in and out of the country, special measures will govern air space, and procedures to manage migration flows and the protection of refugees from Ukraine will be in place, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has said.

The country’s airspace has also been closed since Thursday.

Moldova has the capacity to help tens of thousands of people, said President Maia Sandu, adding that it has prepared various other scenarios in case the number of refugees is higher.

In the first hours of Thursday, almost 2,000 Ukrainian citizens entered Moldova, according to the interior ministry.
