Falling Skies

I expected a lot from this series. From the effective poster, through the plot to the fact that even Steven Spielberg himself took over the production, I couldn't think of anything else. It is true that the reviews here really threw me off, but I don't care about reviews and I was still very curious about the series. So I was even more shocked when the series threw me into action right in the first episode, which is an action non-action, and showed me a world there that is such a non-world. The series itself has no foundation at all. After several episodes, the characters didn't interest me at all, the individual stories didn't interest me at all, and the world itself was terribly boring. This doesn't even come close to Jericho or The Walking Dead, from which it surely took something, but as a whole, the series just bored me terribly. (05.10.2011)

Not bad, but this is certainly no event of the year. Because it lacks the hopeless, deep shit atmosphere of fear. What’s with the dad and kid playing ball or a little squirt riding on skateboard, or what ever that thing was? I don’t wanna see that. I want tears and screams and aliens (they look pretty great) that eat human intestines like in War of the Worlds. On the other hand, there are some pretty fine characters (even though almost all of the kids are disgustingly annoying), but we’ll see what happens to them. Season one: Overall boring, but Uncle Spielberg smuggled some good ideas in. The last scene is really powerful and promises a lot. But unless they do something with that demented motivation “let’s save our children", things will get really bad. Otherwise, Noah Wyle plays such a perfect father that Steven must be compensating for his childhood and fundamentally I don’t have anything against that, but one of those kids could die, to throw this movie into revenge mode (something that happens in the final episode). Of the other characters, only Pop sticks out at all, the foxy blonde with the machine gun and the captain are just there for the ride. The special effects are heavily overdone, empty in terms of story. Thicken, add blood, more oomph, discover sooner. These guys with the long arms are really fascinating, so try a little.
