As tensions between Israel and Palestine are escalating, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev touched on the conflict in his speech delivered within the 10th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) on November 3, 2023.
“We are witnessing the intensifying crisis of confidence on the global scale. New challenges to global security are emerging. We are increasingly seeing deviations from the norms of international law. The extremely dangerous nature of the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East is of particular concern to all of us,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The President of Uzbekistan noted the drastic growth of deaths and wounds among the civilians, especially the elderly, women and children. The threat of a broader conflict escalation is growing too, he said.
“In this regard, we call on the parties to immediately halt hostilities, cease fire and proceed with a truce for humanitarian purposes. The only and most just solution to this problem should be based on the principle of two states for two nations (also referred as two-state solution). As defined in UN resolutions, the people of Palestine have the right to establish an independent state,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The head of Uzbekistan called the OTS member states to announce to the world the “unanimously principled position on this issue.”
As a reminder, on October 28, 2023, Uzbekistan supported the adoption of the resolution of the UN General Assembly calling for “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce” in Gaza Strip. 120 countries in total voted in favor of adopting the resolution.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan called on the parties to the conflict to end the armed confrontation and resolve the crisis through political and diplomatic means.
On the eve of the OTS summit, the President of Uzbekistan has signed the decree on allocating 1.5 million dollars to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to help the Palestinian refugees in Gaza Strip.
