THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy are on a list of "thrillers"?

I think the subtext justifies it. However, we have the individual books, as well as the Rings trilogy separate from The Hobbit, as well as all 4 books lumped into one. I went with the last, because that way I got more votes, but if others can agree on which way to represent Tolkien in a uniform way, I will knock some off my list in order to conform to theirs. I would just like to see some consistency. It also misrepresents the votes when we all vote in separate ways, because it dilutes the vote count. Those of you who voted for Tolkien...which of the 3 options do you like? And the creator of the list ought to weigh in, and if they are still among us, maybe do the zapping. I have librarian privileges, but did not start the list.

The two that seem a little out of place to me, are the Mitch Albom books, but once again, if the person who added them (and I loved them both, by the way; I only question the category) feels they, too, meet the subtext, than we have to let that stand. I understand Tuesdays With Morrie, in that Morrie said death would be a great adventure (paraphrasing Peter Pan in JM.. Barrie's classic), but I have a hard time seeing it as THIS kind of an adventure. Five People...? This was a deeply moving story, and it held my attention; I didn't regard it as a thriller. Maybe those of a religious bent feel otherwise.

The books I have voted for are all nrs. 1, if you ask me. Hard to choose which one will be my all time favorite....

When you vote for your favorite book, it is scored as 100 points. Your second favorite is 99, and so on till you max out at your 100th book. I don't see anything here that looks suspicious; take the number of voters, multiply that number x100, and if the result is larger than the number that comes up, then it is suspicious. I don't see anywhere where that is the case.

It does seem to me that a lot of readers are suggestible. For example, the book in the #1 slot right now had to get the #1 or #2 rating from a lot of people, so the first 50 books or so tend to stay right up near the top because a lot of readers won't flip through all of the pages to see what else is there later, or take the time to add books that aren't on the list.

Thank you for your response, Donna. I was referring to the number of people that voted for the book, though, not the score it received. For this list, 120 people voted for The Pyramid Legacy; however, only 108 people actually read and rated the book.

Whoa. Point well taken! I confess it never occurred to me to check. It seems like such a pointless form of fraud!

I ran a scan and removed 5 duplicates but could not find your title. Has it been removed already? If not, please let me know what page number it's on. This is a mighty long list, and I may have missed it.

Hi Donna, thank you for the reply. I'm seeing September Ends at # 380. Not a threat to the actual books which are thrillers, but the list does show on my book's page, which will mislead readers. Thank you for anything you can do. All the best!

Thank you for pointing it out. It is gone, along with Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven (a favorite of mine, and a page-turner, but surely not a thriller).

I tend to think the best of people. I can see how someone would scan a list and go "Oh yeah, I read that," and vote for it even though they haven't taken the time to add it to their own shelves or rate it.

Velvet, if you want books added, you have to do it yourself. At the top of the page are two tabs. The one on the right says "add books to this list". Hit the tab. A window will pop up. Enter the title. When it comes up, enter and then click "vote for this book". You can do this with up to 100 books, since that is the number of votes you get.

Librarians do not add books unless we add those we wish to vote for.

I just added my edition of COYOTE WILLOWS to the list--a terrific eco-thriller just out, an important book that's a page-turner, too. I'm new here but am excited to introduce it to other readers. Some components of this well-written, complexly plotted, knowledgeable book: radioactive storage, leakage, government issues at Hanford nuclear plant; the threatened Columbia River; eastern Oregon ranch country, Willamette Falls; Native American rock art; main character with post-traumatic stress; lots of action. Search it by title, not author--incomplete information there.
