At Home STI Testing: A 2-Part Series Exploring Programs and Bringing Awareness to Barriers

Recent data has shown troubling trends, a growing prevalence of substance use disorders (SUDs) among those with Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Hepatitis C in our community. These statistics not only underscore the pressing need for effective public health measures, but they also highlight the critical role of community engagement and education in combating these health issues. Our Public Health Division is deploying innovative strategies and initiatives to address these significate health crises.

We are excited to share information on the launch of a new initiative aimed at providing accessible and confidential STI health services to our community members. We have introduced an innovative free At Home STI self-collection testing program, which allows individuals to test themselves in the privacy of their own homes. This is in addition to our Syringe Services Programs (SSPs) located around the state, operating on the principle of harm reduction and our Counseling, Testing and Referral (CTR) sites offering crucial services to those who are at risk of infection.

Trainings will be presented by Jennifer Schmidt, Assistant Field Epidemiology Services Director and Sarah Weninger, HIV.STI.Hepatitis Prevention Coordinator
