About three years ago, we heard that Lethal Weapon franchise star (and potential Lethal Weapon 5 director) Mel Gibson had signed on to star in a fantasy adventure / family horror film that was going by the title Boys of Summer. That project has since been given a new title, Monster Summer, and it’s set to reach theatres on October 4th. The marketing has now officially begun, as a trailer for Monster Summer has made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above! A poster has also been unveiled, and that can be found at the bottom of this article.
Directed by David Henrie (This Is the Year) from a script written by Cornelius Uliano and Bryan Schulz (The Peanuts Movie), Monster Summer follows a local boy, who after his best friend is mysteriously taken, begins to suspect that a supernatural entity may be hunting the children of Martha’s Vineyard.

The cast of Hacksaw Ridge delivered an artful performance to capture the fascinating real-life story of Desmond Doss, an American conscientious objector during the Second World War. Doss served as a combat medic, refusing to carry a weapon into combat due to his religious convictions. Mel Gibson explored Doss’ beliefs in the 2016 biographical war drama, alongside his daring feats at the Battle of Okinawa. Hacksaw Ridge was released to rave reviews, with six nominations at the 89th Academy Awards. It reinvigorated Gibson’s career, winning him the Razzie Redeemer Award and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director. The biographical...

Eddie Murphy has a lot of standalone movies that are great like Trading Places, Harlem Nights, and the more recent Dolomite is my Name, but he’s also been a bit of franchise gold in the past. Obviously, Beverly Hills Cop is the biggest and most recent example, but he’s also been part of 2 48 Hours movies, a couple Nutty Professor flicks, a couple Doctor Dolittle movies and is an integral part of the mega franchise that is Shrek. While we unfortunately have to call Coming to America a franchise now after that abysmal rehash that Amazon dropped on us, there is another movie and character that I actually wouldn’t mind being brought back and has potential, under the right writer and director combo, to be a fun time and maybe even fix some of the mistakes from its predecessor. While Pluto Nash and Norbit are all time stinkers...

Exclusive: The West Mesa Murders, the shocking killings of 11 women whose remains were found buried in 2009 in the New Mexico desert, is to be the subject of a true crime docuseries.
The unsolved murder case was the inspiration for Lionsgate’s recent acquisition Boneyard, starring Mel Gibson and 50 Cent. That film’s director Asif Akbar is back aboard to helm the crime series, teaming up with New Mexico producer Vincent E. McDaniel and L.A.-based producer Brian A. Metcalf.
The plan is for the series to include interviews with the victims’ families, witnesses and law enforcement, as well as archival footage, clips from the Boneyard film and interviews with individuals closely involved in the investigations.

Throughout its long-standing and iconic run, the X-Men franchise has cast generations of actors in superhero roles, to maintain the film series’ relevance among fans and offer fresh takes on the stories. However, there are a few stars who came inches close to the franchise, and yet failed to make the cut.
Jim Caviezel in Sound of Freedom (2023) | Santa Fe Films
Jim Caviezel happens to be one among them who was almost cast in Bryan Singer’s X-Men (2000), but lost the role to James Marsden, at the last minute. Although it was a heartbreaking loss for Caviezel, the Marvel franchise seemingly saved its reputation from tarnishing, considering the actor’s controversial views.

“Vanished into the Night” is a Netflix movie starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Annabelle Wallis. It is directed by Renato De Maria
Netflix returns with a plot formula that, although not entirely new, continues to deliver: child abduction and the enduring struggle of parents trying to recover their children. This time, there is no Mel Gibson or Liam Neeson, but the duo of Annabelle Wallis and Riccardo Scamarcio lead this intriguing family thriller revolving around kidnappings.
Vanished into the Night The Plot
The story revolves around a debt-ridden father going through a divorce who has to deal with a kidnapping. The abductors demand 150,000 euros, which the father doesn’t possess, leading him to borrow from an acquaintance. In return, he is forced into a dangerous game of drug trafficking.

Exclusive: Saddle up! One of the great westerns is getting a remake.
Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood classic A Fistful Of Dollars is set for a movie remake from Euro Gang Entertainment, the company founded by Hollywood vet Gianni Nunnari (300) and Simon Horsman (Magazine Dreams), alongside Italian production vet Enzo Sisti (Ripley) of Fpc, and Rome-based Jolly Film, which produced the original movie.
Hit western A Fistful of Dollars is the story of a wandering gunfighter with no name who plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge.
The film, released in the mid ’60s, helped launch the “spaghetti western” genre and Eastwood’s career (and others including that of composer Ennio Morricone). Its huge success spawned two more films in an iconic trilogy also comprising For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly, all starring Eastwood.

It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States at the time, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen.
Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo, with James Cagney showing off some good moves in the film Blood on the Sun,...

Beverly Hills Cop is one of the best and most iconic franchises in the action comedy genre, and most of the credit for that goes to its leading man, Eddie Murphy. Created by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie Jr., the first film in the franchise came out in 1984, and now, with the fourth film coming out nearly thirty years after the third and the worst film in the franchise came out, the hype for the franchise and its iconic theme song is back on the top. So, if you loved Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, here are some more great action comedy films you could watch next.

It’s that time of year when we all celebrate America — or ‘Merica, if you will — by blowing up fireworks, wolfing down hot dogs and eventually passing out in our neighbor’s yard after drunkenly embarrassing our families.
But if you want to mark the occasion with a thematically-appropriate movie — and don’t want to watch Mel Gibson stabbing a redcoat with Old Glory — there’s always Team America: World Police.
When it first came out back in 2004, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s all-marionette political satire wasn’t hugely controversial — unless, of course, your name happened to be “Sean Penn.” In fact, the biggest Team America scandal involved the MPAA’s censorship of a prolonged puppet sex scene.
But Team America did end up getting pulled from theaters, albeit a decade after it was originally released, and mostly thanks to this guy:

George Miller’s Mad Max franchise is one of the most renowned action movie series of all time. The franchise’s recent addition, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, featuring Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, serves as a prequel that adds to the popularity of the post-apocalyptic franchise. Despite having mixed reviews, fans had a great time watching the film on the big screen.

After the success of Sound of Freedom, it became hard to ignore Angel Studios’s growing power in the film industry. The production company not only found a new way to distribute its movies. It found an incredibly effective way to ensure its movies are seen. For a film like Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, ensuring audiences see your issue-based film may change lives. Creating a pseudo-shared franchise with Sound of Freedom may create huge dividends for Angel Studios. They also brought Letitia Wright on board to produce the film.
However, while reception to Sound of Freedom‘s direction trended positive, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot struggles with this aspect. It features two brilliant performances at the top of the movie. The younger actors struggle, primarily due to how they’ve been directed. Writer-director Robert Towne, an Oscar winner for his original script for “Chinatown” and an acknowledged master of the art of screenwriting, has died. He was 89.
Towne died Monday at his home in Los Angeles, publicist Carrie McClure said in a statement.
During a long career that began in the 1960s, when he went to work as an actor and writer for B-movie director Roger Corman, Towne became one of the most sought-after script doctors in movie history, called on time and again to solve structural problems and create great moments for other people’s films.
Towne came to prominence in the 1970s with three critical and commercial hits released within a 14-month period: “The Last Detail” (1973), “Chinatown” (1974) and “Shampoo” (1975). All three screenplays were Oscar- nominated, with “Chinatown” winning in its year.
Hired as a “special consultant” by Warren Beatty for 1967’s “Bonnie and Clyde,” Towne restructured the picture to dramatize the outlaws’ impending doom.

Robert Towne, the screenwriter as superstar whose Oscar-winning work on the 1974 classic Chinatown is widely recognized as the gold standard for movie scripts, has died. He was 89.

He also received Academy Award nominations for The Last Detail (1973) and Shampoo (1975) in the years surrounding his most famous work.
His takes on Los Angeles were etched with melancholy and painted the city as one of beauty and sadness. In Chinatown and Shampoo, gumshoe J.J. Gittes (Jack Nicholson) and Beverly Hills hairdresser George Roundy (Warren Beatty) end up alone. (Towne collaborated often with those actors.)

About three years ago, we heard that Lethal Weapon franchise star (and potential Lethal Weapon 5 director) Mel Gibson had signed on to star in a fantasy adventure / family horror film that was going by the title Boys of Summer. That project has since been given a new title, Monster Summer, and Coming Soon reports that it will be reaching theatres just in time for Halloween! The specific release date is October 4th.
After seeking the help of an aging detective (Gibson), they soon discover they’re on the path of a witch who has recently retired to their island.

Boneyard is your average B-grade mystery thriller, with Mel Gibson playing the lead. The incoherent narrative, hurried and weak backstory, and lack of character to root for make Boneyard a forgettable watch. Based on the West Mesa murders, an unsolved serial killing case that took Albuquerque by storm in 2009, a woman walking her dog discovered skeletal remains in the desert. Most of the victims identified were sex workers, and it was assumed that a serial killer was on the loose. In Boneyard, agent Petrovick, a specialist in serial killing, was invited to study the case and work with the local police. Detective Ortega was particularly irritated by Agent Petrovick’s intervention; he believed he was more than capable of solving the case on his own. While Agent Petrovick created a profile to track down the serial killer, Detective Ortega was convinced that the killer was an undercover cop.

Quick: what’s the all-time best middle movie in a popular Og cinematic trilogy? Yes, The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back are obvious and beyond reproach, but what else comes to mind? Aliens? Terminator 2? Back to the Future Part 2? Evil Dead 2? What about Oldboy or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Yeah, all worthy responses that happened to be flat-out wrong!

The 2024 film Boneyard drew inspiration from a haunting true crime case in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Between 2001 and 2005, eleven women and girls went missing in the area. Tragically, their remains were discovered four to eight years later, in 2009, buried in an arid stretch of desert known as the West Mesa. The victims, aged 15 to 32, had been sexually assaulted and brutally murdered. Though police questioned persons of interest, this heinous serial killer remained at large.
Directed by Asif Akbar, Boneyard tells a fictionalized story based on these unsolved West Mesa murders. It brought together anecdotally a cast led by Mel Gibson as an experienced FBI profiler named Pete and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as the local police chief. Gibson delivered a seasoned, gritty performance, but Jackson struggled more in his substantial role.
The movie followed police detectives and federal agents racing to identify the perpetrator before any other lives could be lost. Yet...

You might expect a film that begins with Mel Gibson announcing, “The Bible says we should rejoice in our suffering,” to be a little more high-minded than “Boneyard.” But this trashy trawl through a fictionalized version of the “West Mesa Murders” — a still-unsolved southwestern crime spree in our century’s early years — is the kind of dubiously moralizing exploitation exercise that makes “Sound of Freedom” look like a noble class act by comparison.
Likewise “inspired by true events,” Asif Akbar’s movie alternates between lurid serial-killer suspense not far removed from the retro grindhouse ogling of concurrent “MaXXXine” and a convoluted procedural involving variably corrupt, conflicting investigators. Four screenwriters are credited, to results that feel very much like four screenplays shuffled to comprise one awkward narrative deck of cards — from which marquee name Gibson has been largely dealt out. Too cluttered to be dull, but frequently clunky and inept, this...

It’s an old saw in Hollywood that you shouldn’t put your own money into a movie. But I’ve always had a powerful respect for anyone who does. Clearly, it’s a sign of their commitment — that they care enough about what they’re doing to have some skin in the game. I also think there’s an intoxicating roll-of-the-dice payoff in play: If you put your own money into a movie, your investment could hit the jackpot. (That’s what happened with Mel Gibson and “The Passion of the Christ.”) And, of course, there’s the admirable idea that those who self-finance are trying to bring a film into the marketplace that a corporate studio said no to. That’s one way that motion pictures can stay adventurous.
So the reckless and committed bravado that Kevin Costner demonstrated by pouring $38 million of his own money into “Horizon: An American Saga...

Denzel Washington has made a name for himself as one of the most talented and respected actors in Hollywood. Having several Oscar nominations and wins under his name, he has certainly become an icon and an inspiration for many newcomers in the industry. While he has been a part of several critically acclaimed works, one of his most notable has to be Training Day, alongside Ethan Hawke.

His performance as Alonzo Harris has been regarded as one of his most memorable. The crime-thriller also turned many heads, winning several Academy Awards. Knowing just how significant the movie was, it is interesting to know that Harris’ character was almost very different.

Actor Tom Hardy was picked to succeed Mel Gibson as the new Mad Max. Apart from Hardy’s own skills as a performer, he was offered the role because of his strong likeness to the original Mad Max star.

Hardy’s Max Max Fury Road didn’t hit theaters until 2015. But he’d been attached to the project as early as 2010.
“There were many, many actors that would probably be right for Mad Max and there’s many out there who could probably do an exceptional job to portray him. It’s especially a challenge to step in the shoes of such an iconic character. I’m aware that I’m going to take a certain number of casualties when I go in and play him,” Hardy once told Collider.

The 58th Karlovy Vary Film International Film Festival kicked off with a very personal milestone, commemorating 30 years since the event was taken over by the programming team of Jiří Bartoška and the late journalist Eva Zaoralová. The veteran actor, now 77, gave the festival cause for concern last year when health problems threatened to keep him away from the event. This year, however, Bartoška was the main focus of the traditionally baroque opening ceremony, taking us back to 1994 with memories of Nelson Mandela, TV’s Friends, cinema’s Pulp Fiction, and the first iterations of PlayStation and Bluetooth technology.
There followed a lengthy tribute to Bartoška at work, welcoming a veritable cavalcade of stars; names so famous that for a few minutes, it was possible to forget the festival’s unfortunate tendency to stick with Hollywood stars a tad too long into their wilderness periods (Mel Gibson and Johnny Depp spring...

Viggo Mortenson, as well as jury members Geoffrey Rush and independent film veteran Christine Vachon were among the big names strutting down the red carpet on Friday evening for the gala opening ceremony of the 58th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff) in the Czech Republic.
The black-tie opening event saw Mortensen collect the Kviff President’s Award in the Czech spa town that will for the next week present what has come to be considered Central Europe’s biggest cinema celebration of the summer.
Mortensen, whose feminist western The Dead Don’t Hurt opened the fest later that night, charmed the fest audience with some prepared Czech remarks that drew much applause and appreciation. He then switched to English, calling Kviff a “very important celebration of cinema that you have every year,” making him feel honored that the fest was recognizing “my work as a storyteller.”

Benicio del Toro has had enough of schmoozing, small talk and pretending to laugh at people’s jokes in this year’s black-and-white trailer for the 2024 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff), which was unveiled, as has become tradition, on Friday evening as part of the opening night festivities of the 58th edition of the fest in the Czech spa town.
Enough is enough, he thinks, while walking through a Berlin train station. And to cheer himself up, he turns to a traditional Karlovy Vary treat that he takes out of a bag, which also contains his Kviff honor statuette.
The Puerto Rican actor and producer received the Kviff President’s Award in 2022 and has now joined a who’s who of stars from Hollywood and beyond in starring in the usually offbeat trailers that don’t take themselves, the celebrities and the award statuette too seriously.

Mel Gibson goes back behind the camera for Flight Risk, with Mark Wahlberg starring. Here’s the first trailer.
Few could accuse Mel Gibson of playing it safe when it comes to picking his directorial projects, from his debut Man Without A Face to the Oscar-winning Braveheart and the terrific Apocalypto to his last feature to date, war drama Hacksaw Ridge.
Mel Gibson moves closer to blockbuster territory with plane based thriller Flight Risk. The synopsis reads as follows:
“Ya’ll need a pilot?” In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to a trial.
Oktober fest.
