Colin Farrell has had a stellar few years, turning in exquisite performance after exquisite performance in a variety of projects from deadpan comedy movies such as “The Lobster” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” to a transformative turn in the superhero flick “The Batman.”
Farrell has delivered another enigmatic performance with the Apple TV+ detective series “Sugar.” In this neo-noir drama, Farrell plays private investigator John Sugar, who delves into the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the granddaughter of a famous Hollywood producer. Farrell is as magnetic as ever in, wielding his natural charisma and captivating screen presence with ease while also sowing in the sort of sad, lamentable quality that he displayed in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” a film that earned him his first Oscar nomination (for Best Actor). Critics have applauded Farrell for his turn in “Sugar.”

Sir Anthony Hopkins earned his first Oscar for the role of serial killer Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. Based on the novel by Thomas Harris, it was the last movie to win the ‘Big Five’ awards at the Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Hopkins only had about 16 minutes of screen time.
Hopkins went on to reprise his role in two more films, the sequel Hannibal and the prequel Red Dragon. While the sequel was more commercially successful than the original, the film was not as well-received and the actor himself was reportedly not happy with the film. He also mentioned that one scene in particular on Hannibal was done differently from the book.

One Life Anthony Hopkins stars as Nicholas Winton, the “British Schindler” who rescued 669 Jewish children from the Nazis, alongside Helena Bonham Carter on mighty form. The film does justice to this overwhelmingly moving event in British public life, capturing a quietly affecting drama. Richly Enjoyable Documentary This one charts the rise and fall of a unique alt-cinephile repertory house that inspired countless generations of filmmakers, artists and musicians. Poor Things Emma Stone gives a hilarious, beyond-next-level performance as Bella Baxter, the experimental subject of a troubled Victorian anatomist in Yorgos Lanthimos’s toweringly bizarre comedy. The Bram Stoker’s Dracula episode of Revisited was Written and Narrated by Vannah Taylor, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Vampires are timeless creatures in every sense of the word. Mythology stemming from the fear of the undead has consumed cultures around the globe for centuries–and these stories have been forever evolving and molding together to form our modern understanding of vampires. But one ageless and undying tale stands above the rest as the quintessential vampire tale: Bram Stoker’s Dracula (watch it Here).
Not only are vampires themselves creatures of everlasting life, but their stories continue to be told time and time again. In 1897, Bram Stoker published the novel Dracula, forever shaping vampire lore with his monstrous Transylvanian count. Since then, at least 80 films have been made featuring some sort of adaptation of Count Dracula– as...

The list includes more than 500 names, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten actors from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.

While there are directors with strong opinions on comic book films, often targeting the face of it all, Marvel Studios, there is no shortage of impressive actors who have starred in these superhero films. You have actors like Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Josh Brolin, Michael B. Jordan, Scarlett Johansson and more who have proven their abilities in more dramatic fares. There are even some older iconic actors that have dabbled in the genre, like Robert Redford, Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Costner and Michelle Pfeiffer. And let’s not forget names like Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson starring in the ones that legitimized the genre.
Russell Crowe is also someone who lent his talents to multiple superhero films. He was Jor-El in Man of Steel, Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder and he will be seen in the upcoming Spider-Man Sonyverse film Kraven The Hunter as Kraven’s bad dad.

Zack Snyder’s R-rated “Rebel Moon – The Director’s Cuts”, including “Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood” and “Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness”, streams August 2, 2024 on Netflix:
“…delve further into the mythology and madness of Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi saga in the world of ‘Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood’ and ‘Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness’.
“In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical ‘Regent Balisarius’ and ‘Kora’ (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.
”Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the ‘Motherworld’, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge.

Troy Baker is known for providing the voice and motion capture for Joel in The Last of Us games. Though he was replaced in the HBO series by Pedro Pascal, he guest starred as James, a member of David’s clan in the penultimate episode of the show. Baker was reportedly invited to be a part of the show due to his immense contributions to the games.
While Baker was overjoyed at the prospect of being in the show, he expressed the admiration he had for all the actors in the series, especially Bella Ramsey. Baker specified one scene in the eighth episode of the show that showcased the peak of Ramsey’s talent. However, the scene was reportedly deleted from the cut.

Prime Video has debuted the trailer for the historical drama series ‘Those About To Die.’
Panem et Circenses – Bread and Entertainment; Rome in 79 A.D.: The centre of the Roman Empire is the wealthiest city in the world, and there is a heavy influx of slave labourers from the growing empire to take over the work. The Roman population—bored, restless, and increasingly violent—is kept in line mainly by two things: free food and spectacular entertainment, in the form of chariot racing and gladiator fights.
The series delves into the world of the games—a world characterized by bloodlust, greed for money, the pursuit of power, and corruption. The races at Circus Maximus are controlled by four Patrician-owned corporations, the Blue, Red, White, and Green factions, and shares in the four factions are the most valuable things in Rome. As the taste in entertainment of the populace becomes more jaded and bloodthirsty,...

A postscript to this philosophical effort explains that an unknown Oxford don visited Sigmund Freud’s London home shortly before his death in 1939. What if, the film asks, it had been C.S. Lewis? Well, then we might have had a conversation a little like this confection — although probably considerably sharper.
Freud (Anthony Hopkins) was a prominent atheist: not that that protected him from persecution by the Nazis for his Jewish roots, driving him to flee Vienna to London with his family. Matthew Goode’s Lewis, meanwhile, lost and rediscovered his faith after the early death of his mother and the trauma of World War I. As a second World War looms, both men reckon with its cost and their own regrets. Like One Night In Miami or Mary Queen Of Scots, this therefore uses an imaginary meeting to explore both men’s lives and work, but somehow to less than satisfying effect.

Are you not entertained? You will be when you watch Peacock’s Those About to Die trailer. The new series revolves around gladiatorial combat, political upheaval, and deception lurking around every piss-soaked corner of an evolving empire. Peacock‘s Those About to Die series hails from director/executive producer Roland Emmerich, who details his passion for the project in today’s press release and shares its origin.
“I have always been fascinated by the history of the Roman Empire. So much still seems relevant for our society today – from the entanglement of politics and sports to the disciplines of the competitions, which haven’t changed much either over the last 2000 years. The most electrifying spectacles for the masses still involve two men in an arena, beating each other up, and the chariots of today are called race cars whose drivers still crash and often pay with their lives,” Emmerich writes.

"I know what they crave... And I can devise entertainment that will feed that craving." Sounds like a studio exec talking. Peacock has revealed the main official for an epic Roman Empire series called Those About To Die, a riff on the classic Roman phrase "Hail, Emperor, those who are about to die salute you" or "Ave Imperator, morituri te salutant." The series chronicles the world of gladiators in Ancient Rome. It may not be connected to Ridley Scott's Gladiator movie, or its upcoming sequel Gladiator 2 due out later this year, but it's definitely something they want you to feel is connected. Some of the episodes are directed by Roland Emmerich and it was shot at the Cinecittà studio in Rome. Anthony Hopkins stars as the Roman Emperor Vespasian, with a massive cast: Dimitri Leonidas as Scorpus, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins-Court, Moe Hashim, David Wurawa,...

Ancient Rome has long been fertile ground for big-screen epics, from Ben Hur to Gladiator.
But the age of togas and chariot races hasn't spawned many successful TV dramas.
So Peacock execs likely knew they were taking a bigger risk than Caesar crossing the Rubicon when they greenlit Those About to Die, a big-budget drama about the world of gladiatorial combat.
Now, the streamer has released the first full-length trailer ahead of the series' July 18 debut.
A press release issued today describes the show as coming from blockbuster director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day) who serves as executive producer along with Academy Award-nominated writer and creator Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan).

How does someone survive Rome’s most cruel spectacle? The new series “Those About To Die” is set among the gladiatorial events and political intrigue that shaped an empire. “Saving Private Ryan” screenwriter Robert Rodat created the project and wrote several episodes. And, of course, it has a big name in it with two-time Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins.

Russell Crowe has no problem calling out the hypocrisy of actors dissing their own superhero films.
The new trend as of late was most recently exemplified by Dakota Johnson’s comments on “Madame Web” after the Sony-produced film flopped at the box office. Johnson told Bustle that she understood why the film was “ripped to shreds” by critics, citing that “art does not do well when it’s made by committee.”
Crowe, when asked about how his own experience in a slew of superhero films compared to Johnson’s, told GQ UK that of course tentpole franchise films like “Thor: Love and Thunder” are made by a “gigantic machine” like Johnson complained about.
“I don’t want to make any comments to what anybody else might have said or what their experience is, but…you’re bringing out the impish quality of my humor,” Crowe said. “You’re telling...

Hopkins’ Sigmund Freud locks horns with Matthew Goode’s Cs Lewis in an imaginary encounter that is watchable but not terribly profound
Here is a determinedly old-fashioned drama, verbose and elaborate but also forthright and watchable in its way. It is a Stoppardian what-if meeting, imagining a bruising encounter between two celebrated historical figures who could, theoretically, have run into each other; it is adapted by director Matt Brown from a stage-play by American dramatist Mark St Germain, in turn inspired by a 2002 book by Harvard psychiatrist Armand Nicholi who had seized upon a report that Sigmund Freud met with an unnamed Oxford don just before his death. What if that don was Cs Lewis, the Christian apologist who in his 1933 book The Pilgrim’s Regress had mocked atheist Freudianism and every other sort of godless trendiness?

Tony Lo Bianco, who played the key role of Sal Boca in Best Picture Oscar winner The French Connection and appeared in more than 100 films and TV shows during a 60-year screen career, died Tuesday of prostate cancer at his home in Maryland. He was 87.
A rep confirmed his death to Fox News today.
Lo Bianco got his start guesting on 1960s TV series including The Doctors, Get Smart! and N.Y.P.D. before landing a big-screen star turn in 1970’s The Honeymoon Killers. That led to his signature role as Salvatore “Sal” Buco in William Friedkin’s seminal New York crime drama The French Connection the following year. His character is at the center of a drug deal followed by NYPD Detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle (Gene Hackman). The film won five Oscars including Best Picture and Lead Actor for Hackman.

We all love a good old forbidden love story, right? Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has been re-conceptualised countless times over the years; from stylish adaptations by Aussie auteurs, traditional period dramas and with, of all things, gnomes. This is just a drop in the vast ocean of movies that have taken on the Bard’s classic tale, and for the third entry in the popular Underworld series, it was time for a flashback to some forbidden Lycan and vampire love. The first Underworld movie had a backstory that explained how vampires and werewolves came to be mortal enemies, thanks to a feud that began between Michael Sheen’s super sexy Lycan, Lucian, and Bill Nighy’s nosferatu vampire Viktor. You see, hairy Lucian had been secretly romancing the fanged bloodsucker’s daughter Sonja, played by Doomsday’s Rhona Mitra. And with that premise, you can probably guess where this threequel is going.

Netflix has unveiled the first look at Zack Snyder’s director’s cuts, ‘Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood’ and ‘Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.’
In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.

How would you like to spend a special Father’s Day with your dad? Here’s a suggestion — why not sit down for a couple of hours and watch one of these movies that’s all about fathers, both terrific and horrible? Our ranked photo gallery above includes many fine suggestions, all of which feature an Oscar-winning performance by an actor who plays a father where that role was pivotal to the plot.
Though there are thousands of films in which one character happens to be a father, you won’t find them all on this list. Besides the fact that these 17 films contain a paternal performance that won an Academy Award, they show a wide array of what it means to be a father. Before the 2024 Oscars ceremony took place, three of the four eventual acting winners had already filmed TV performances that now put them in contention for the upcoming Emmys. If Emma Stone, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Robert Downey Jr. all end up achieving TV academy recognition this year, they will set a record as the first set of three concurrent acting Oscar recipients to appear on the same year’s Emmy ballot.
Randolph, who scored an Oscar in March for her supporting turn in “The Holdovers,” is seeking her first career Emmy notice for reprising her comedic guest role of Detective Donna Williams during the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” According to Gold Derby’s odds, she comfortably ranks as her show’s strongest guest acting candidate, even outpacing first season nominee Jane Lynch.

The movies have also been given an official R-rating for "brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, and language".

Everywhere I look these days, I see the masses consumed by "Rebel Moon" fever. People just can't get enough of Sofia Boutella's eponymous "Scargiver" and her epic crusade against the mighty Imperium. The streets are filled with cosplayers paying homage to fan-favorite hero Jimmy, the greatest robot character ever voiced by Sir Anthony Hopkins. After the release of "A Child of Fire" and "The Scargiver" over the last year and change, the promise of even more footage in the form of two director's cuts overseen by filmmaker Zack Snyder has constantly kept this new franchise at the forefront of every pop-culture conversation.
As you might have figured out by now, none of this really ever happened in the real world. Although the eye-popping visuals and expansive world-building would've been a feast for the eyes on the big screen, the fact that only Netflix stepped up to provide funding for...

We’ve known all along that director Zack Snyder intended to release extended, R-rated director’s cuts of his movies Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here), which were rated PG-13 in their shorter form. What we didn’t realize is that the director’s cuts would have different titles than the shorter versions – but Netflix has just confirmed that is the case, while also unveiling a batch of images from the director’s cuts and announcing that they will both be available to watch on their streaming service as of August 2nd. The new title for the director’s cut of the first movie is Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood. The second movie is Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.

Seduced by Sam Taylor-Johnson’s woozy Amy Winehouse biopic and kicked into tomorrow by Dev Patel’s Monkey Man, we replay six fantastic months of film
Anthony Hopkins stars as Nicholas Winton, the “British Schindler” who rescued 669 Jewish children from the Nazis, alongside Helena Bonham Carter on mighty form.
What we said: “The film does justice to this overwhelmingly moving event in British public life in a quietly affecting drama.” Read the full review.

2024 is turning out to be a fresh breath of year for films, as it appears, mainstream Hollywood might be once again leaning towards original releases. From Challengers to Civil War, we’ve witnessed some exciting original releases in the past few months, and Glen Powell’s new action comedy Hit Man is the new addition to this summer’s slate.
Sitting at a whopping 97% on the Tomatometer, the film has further added to Powell’s reputation as the next big thing in Hollywood, but making this film a reality was a bumpy ride for its creator.

Anthony Hopkins is back in cinemas this week as neurologist Sigmund Freud in Freud’s Last Session and here’s a chance to catch him offering psychoanalysis of an altogether more sinister sort in his Oscar-winning turn as sadistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. His intense performance in Jonathan Demme's crime thriller is reciprocated by Jodie Foster as FBI agent Clarice Starling, who finds herself embroiled in a psychological wargame with the incarcerated murder as she tries to snare another monster. Much darker than your average Academy Award winner, Demme knows exactly what to show and what not to show to generate horror and tension. Chillingly effective even on a repeat watch. Glass of chianti, optional.

Glen Powell is not only a great actor, but a great storyteller as well – at least after guesting in the Therapuss Podcast where he relayed a very insane first date story. Romantic dates are supposed to be memorable, and this particular narrative will forever haunt the readers.

Whether this is true or not, it would definitely make an intriguing movie. Besides, what kind of a horror fan doesn’t love a first date-gone-wrong story turned murder mystery with a side dish of cannibalism?

Glen Powell is now finding his footing in Hollywood after his roster of successful projects over the past few years. From the action thriller Top Gun: Maverick to the romantic comedy Anyone But You, he’s slowly gaining momentum as a rising star.

But, before all these victorious box office hits, he knew what it’s like to star in a major box office bomb. The actor notably appeared in 2016’s Misconduct alongside two veteran stars in Hollywood: Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins.
Glen Powell’s Major Box Office Flop Only Made A Hundred Dollars On Its Opening Weekend
When a movie stars two of the greatest actors in history, it’s supposed to make money, but that’s not the case with Shintaro Shimosawa’s Misconduct. The film cost $11 million to make, and on its opening weekend, it only earned $141, as per Variety.

Does God exist? It’s a question which has obsessed philosophers for centuries, despite having little apparent relevance to anyone genuinely committed to living a moral life. Sigmund Freud, famously, was an atheist, believing Judeo-Christian notions of God to be rooted in the desire for a protective father figure. Matt Brown’s play, which he has adapted here for the screen, imagines a meeting between Freud and the author Cs Lewis, a devout believer who, whilst clearly accepting that the older man has a lot to teach him, hopes to win him over to a theistic point of view.
A dramatic backdrop is provided: it is the second day of World War Two, and Freud (played by Anthony Hopkins) patently needs to leave Vienna, but is reluctant to do so in part because of his failing health....

Christopher Reeve became a huge movie star after the critical and commercial success of 1978’s Superman. Everyone loved his nerdy, charming yet heroic portrayal of the character and he became an instant sensation. The actor reprised the role for three more films, further catapulting his star power.

However, tragedy struck in 1995 as Reeve fell off a horse and suffered two crushed vertebrae, leading him to be paralyzed for the remainder of his life. The actor grew disillusioned and contemplated suicide. However, the support of his wife Dana Reeve, and the love pact she made with Reeve changed the course of the actor’s life, for the better.

Tom Bower, the busy character actor who portrayed Dr. Curtis Willard on The Waltons and the janitor, Marvin, who helps John McClane foil the terrorists at the airport in Die Hard 2, has died. He was 86.
Bower died last week of an unknown cause at his home in Los Angeles, his brother, Robert Bower, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Bower worked on John Cassavetes’ directorial debut, Shadows (1957), and played one of the translators that make a mess of things in the acclaimed Western The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982), starring Edward James Olmos.
He portrayed the father of the 37th U.S. president in Oliver Stone’s Nixon (1995), starring Anthony Hopkins, and the father of Nicolas Cage’s Terence McDonagh in Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009).

In films, the leading actor is often referred to as the figure with the majority of screen time, and in most cases, they’re the one who gets the shot at the Best Actor accolade in major Award events. But there have been instances when this wasn’t the case.
Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs
For example, Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for Best Actor for playing everyone’s favorite cannibal in The Silence of the Lambs, even though he appeared onscreen for a mere 24 minutes. However, in The Godfather‘s case, Marlon Brando nabbed the nod for Best Actor at the Oscars, even though Al Pacino fit that bracket on paper.
Ethan Hawke also found himself on a similar boat after starring opposite Denzel Washington in the 2001 crime thriller Training Day, which earned the latter an Oscar for Best Actor.

Exclusive: David Hare, one of the UK’s foremost playwrights and a double Oscar nominee, is in an unsparing mood about the state of UK politics. This comes as leaders of the country’s two major parties parry in the cut and thrust of the July 4 general election.
Hare’s view, he tells Breaking Baz, is that there is in fact not enough cut and thrust, what with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak going to the polls “because he’s as fed up with this government as the rest of us.”
The dramatist, director, and screenwriter tells me that the Tories are coming up daily with “harebrained” election promises while Labour, its chief opponent, “is trying to be sober, say nothing and do nothing.”
He fears, though, that Labour is taking up “a defensive crouch“ when it should be thrusting.

Exclusive: Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories has teamed with producer Monica Saunders-Weinberg to adapt Fiona McIntosh’s novel The Pearl Thief as a feature film. One Life screenwriter Nick Drake is attached to write.
The Pearl Thief is billed as a sweeping, epic story love and betrayal set between 1939 and the early 1960s. Saunders-Weinberg acquired the rights and took the project to Nine Perfect Strangers maker Made Up Stories, which then attached Drake to the project.
Synopsis reads: “The stakes are high in this gripping novel set between the city of Prague and its snowy woodlands on the cusp of World War II, and later in the streets of Paris, London, and the heather-covered moors of Yorkshire in 1963.”
The plot will follow Katerina, a museum curator determined to overcome the trauma of her past and avenge the pain inflicted upon those she loved and those she’ll never know.

In Netflix sci-fi epic series 3 Body Problem, British actor Alex Sharp stars as Will Downing, a terminally-ill scientist who not only manages profound romantic heartbreak, but ultimately transcends the limits of human existence.
Plucked straight out of Julliard to play the lead character of Christopher Boone in the Marianne Elliott-directed stage production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Sharpe won a Tony for the role. He went on to star opposite Lily Collins in the film To the Bone, as activist Rennie Davis in The Trial of the Chicago 7 and with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson in The Hustle, before playing opposite Bill Nighy in Living and with Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter in One Life, the 2023 film about British humanitarian Nicholas Winton, who rescued hundreds of Jewish children from occupied Poland.
