World-ending apocalypses are inherently terrifying, but sometimes what comes after is even scarier. The remnants of humanity are left to pick up the pieces of a world torn apart by devastating catastrophe, with resources far scarcer than ever-present threats.
This week’s streaming picks belong to post-apocalyptic horror movies that explore life after the world as we know it has ended, where conditions are harsh and survival odds are low.
While the frequent recurring theme of post-apocalyptic movies highlights how humankind is its own worst enemy, these five titles take drastically different approaches. Some favor retro style, while others infuse their wastelands with a heaping helping of inhuman monsters.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

New month, new horror recommendations from Deep Cuts Rising. This installment’s five selections reflect the month of July 2024.
Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s offerings include a snake thriller, a giallo, and more.
Death Walks on High Heels (1971)
Death Walks on High Heels (1971)
Directed by Luciano Ercoli.
For fans, July is dedicated to gialli. And one giallo that doesn’t come up too often in discussions is Death Walks on High Heels (La morte cammina con i tacchi alti in Italian). After Nieves Navarro‘s character’s father — a jewel thief — is murdered, the masked assailant comes after the daughter. The protagonist flees to England, however, her pursuer won’t stop until he gets what he seeks.

In J.J. Abrams' 2013 feature "Star Trek Into Darkness," Alice Eve appeared as Dr. Carol Marcus, a science officer who came to the U.S.S. Enterprise to examine a shipment of photon torpedoes. Working with Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban), she finds that the torpedoes were used as covert coffin-shaped tubes, intended to smuggle cryogenically frozen compatriots of the villain Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch). She would also eventually play a key role in stopping the evil machinations of her vengeful father, Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller), who aims to pilot a wicked warship called the U.S.S. Vengeance on a mission of destruction.
The character of Carol Marcus had previously appeared in Nicholas Meyer's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," wherein she was played by actress Bibi Besch. In that film — set in the original "Star Trek" timeline, recall — Dr. Marcus was an old flame of Admiral Kirk (William Shatner...

This article contains spoilers for Psych.
It’s easy to forget sometimes that Psych is a show that often involves murder. The procedural comedy-drama is well known for its running gags, irreverent humor, and the absurd scenarios that faux psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and his best friend/crime-solving partner Gus (Dulé Hill) often found themselves in, all of which can overshadow the seriousness of the crimes they’re trying to solve. However, the series proves it’s worthy of the drama genre descriptor more often than we realize when it allows itself to go to darker places than we expect.
The most obvious example of this in the series is the Yin/Yang arc. Shawn and Gus go up against these serial killers several times throughout the series, and often find themselves and those they care about directly in harms’ way. Like many serial killers, Yin (Peter Weller...

From Adam West in the ’60s to Robert Pattinson in 2022, a plethora of iterations of Batman have been presented onscreen since the character’s inception. But while most of them are great in their own right, nobody quite embodied the spirit of the caped crusader like the late Kevin Conroy, who is still considered by many to be the definitive version of Batman.
However, Conroy wasn’t the initial choice to voice the character, and even when he was considered for the part, the actor was interested in voicing other characters, which ended up frustrating Andrea Romano.

Kevin Conroy has worked with some of the most incredible voice actors because of his legendary work as Batman. The many villains he had to face, either minor or major, all impacted him in one way or another. The cast was a variety of enormous talent all mixed in one big familial project. Andrea Romano, the voice director of Batman: The Animated Series had a lot to say about the cast as well.

With the talented actors she had managed to get cast, one would wonder if there was one that she wanted to get but couldn’t. An array as extravagant as this would make that very factor impossible. However, Romano had other plans.

The Dcau started off as a single animated series that eventually grew into the cinematic universe that we know today. Kevin Conroy, the legendary voice actor who voiced the role of Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, had a huge impact on the cinematic universe.
Dcau legend Alan Burnett, who has been the producer of almost every DC animated production ever, feels the same way. Talking about the future of the animated universe, especially with the upcoming movies, Burnett and screenwriter Paul Dini couldn’t help but award Conroy with praises and love.

RoboCop became both a blockbuster and a controversial critical darling upon its release in 1987 due to a mix of jet black humor and as subtle as a jackhammer social commentary sticking a perfect landing. Its success was a surprise to an industry that had looked at Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner’s original script with its simplistic one-word comic book title and assumed it was fated to be a high-concept stinker.
The 2023 RoboDoc documentary miniseries does a terrific job of chronicling the effort it took to turn RoboCop into both a box office win and an enduring cult masterpiece with a quick and funny format that makes it accessible to modern fans. Peter Weller has been in some of the most acclaimed films of the 80s and 90s. He starred in Buckaroo Banzai, Mighty Aphrodite, The New Age, and Naked Lunch. In the 2000s and 2010s, he played Christopher Henderson and Stan Liddy in the fifth seasons of 24 and Dexter respectively. In film, he most popularly appeared as Alexander Marcus in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.

People over the years have mostly associated Weller with his iconic role of Alex Murphy in 1987’s RoboCop. The thrilling and thought-provoking sci-fi flick became a groundbreaking yet misunderstood film at the time, similar to Blade Runner. However, director Paul Verhoeven initially felt the script was too alien to him and far removed from his previous works.

J.J. Abrams' 2013 film "Star Trek Into Darkness" was a parallel universe retread of Nicholas Meyer's 1982 film "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." In Abrams' movie, the central villain, Khan Noonien Singh, was played by Benedict Cumberbatch, while in Meyer's film, Khan was played by Ricardo Montalbán. Both films feature the death of Kirk and/or Spock, and both films feature the survivor yelling "Khaaaaan!" The plots of the films differ, however, as Khan remains the central villain of the 1982 film, while he was supplanted by a vengeful Admiral Marcus (Peter Weller) in "Into Darkness."
Both films also feature Dr. Carol Marcus, a paramour of Captain Kirk (Chris Pine in "Into Darkness" and William Shatner in "Wrath of Khan"). In "Star Trek Into Darkness," Dr. Marcus was played by Alice Eve, taking over for Bibi Besch in "Wrath of Khan." Because the characters in "Into Darkness" are...

I don’t think it’s a controversial opinion to state that, of all the RoboCop movies, only Paul Verhoeven’s original 1987 film deserves to be called a classic. However, a lot of us have always thought that the ultra-violent sequel, RoboCop 2, was better than its reputation suggests. I know from our Original Video on the movie that it has more than a few fans, so it’s exciting to reveal that RoboCop 2 is finally getting a 4K Blu-ray release via Scream Factory.
The news was broken by our friends at Blu-ray.com. The company has also licensed José Padilha’s 2014 remake for release. No RoboCop 3 yet. I suppose the company just decided to let that one go, and you can’t really blame them, as it just might be one of the worst sequels of all time.
No news yet on whether RoboCop 2 will contain any special features.

The ever-articulate and principled Peter Weller has told us a lot about ourselves in his roles as an actor and director. Learning more about this gifted storyteller and true Renaissance man can tell us even more. But Weller hasn’t been seen in a major motion picture since 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, which ended a long silver screen hiatus. Is the man’s relative absence from the silver screen a product of demand, or might it be more down to his preference? Should his career be brought back into the mainstream spotlight like he was Murphy returning from the afterlife? Or is he busy doing different, more interesting things than being a badass in front of a camera? Let’s find out as we ask ourselves, Wtf happened to Peter Weller?
But first, let’s get a better feel for why the man has been so missed by starting at the beginning.

It is 36 years since RoboCop blasted its way onto UK cinema screens and made a splash of epic, gruesome, proportions. With that a cult-like following is born and the film’s influence cannot be overstated.
RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop is an incredibly methodical ‘making of’ documentary that has now set the standard and an exceptionally high one, no less. It comes as no surprise with the success of their recent projects which include Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story and Pennywise: The Story of It.
The documentary oozes passion and is testament to its directors Christopher Griffiths and Eastwood Allen clear love for the film in a project that has been over seven years in the making.
This four part series spans over more than four hours is nothing short of a triumph, it is forensic in its analysis and brings to life the chaos of the RoboCop shoot and does so brilliantly.

It’s been another blockbuster year for horror, but then again it always feels like that. Superhero fatigue has set in and major franchise pictures haven’t returned as expected, but horror, as ever, always seems to reach new heights. In a world where detailed action figures have become commonplace, Neca still stands out by making the type of action figures that no one else is giving the same amount of attention to. Whether it's the ongoing "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" line that is squarely focused on the original movies from the 1990s or the ever-expanding roster of action figures based on hit horror movies, from Universal Monsters to the "Halloween" franchise. One other beloved franchise from the past that keeps getting the cool collectible treatment every now and then is "RoboCop," the brutally satiric action film from director Paul Verhoeven, and the latest addition to the line-up is easily the most sadistic.

It’s been a big year for RoboCop, with the new documentary RoboDoc now streaming on Screambox and the video game RoboCop: Rogue City now available on consoles and PC.
Originally revealed at San Diego Comic Con over the summer, a new RoboCop action figure is even on the way from Neca, though this one is a bit different from the norm.
It’s not a RoboCop figure, it’s actually a Neca Alex Murphy figure!
Depicting Peter Weller Before he was reborn, the figure is based on Murphy’s gruesome murder in the original classic, featuring alternate heads and battle-damaged gore effects.
An alternate chest piece is riddled with bullet wounds, for starters, while an alternate half-arm allows you to recreate Alex Murphy’s bloody dismemberment from the movie.
Neca explains, “This Ultimate figure is highly articulated and comes packed with accessories: interchangeable battle-damaged bulletproof vest, battle-damaged right arm,...

The fan-funded, four-part docuseries RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop is available to watch through the Screambox streaming service, and has also received a Blu-ray release. As fans watch the docuseries, it seems the most popular, standout moment is a sequence where weapons master Randy E. Moore talks about interacting with RoboCop star Peter Weller while holding a stack of Oreos. You can watch that clip in this embed:

In addition to all four episodes now streaming only on Screambox, you can also grab a physical copy on Blu-ray now.
While we released the documentary series this past Halloween season, RoboDoc has had a good bit of viral fame on social media this week. Why, you ask? Because of one particular behind the scenes anecdote that’s relayed in the series, which fans have been sharing around.
In this clip from RoboDoc, weapons master Randy E. Moore shares a story about RoboCop star Peter Weller, who one day had a serious craving for Oreos on the set of the film.

When Robocop was first released back in 1987, critics and audiences alike showed their appreciation for Peter Weller, who starred in the title role. The fact that Weller was able to make the character work was a testament to both his work ethic and acting abilities — within a film in which the gore and mayhem was almost cartoon-like, Robocop himself maintained a grounded demeanor. Part of that had to do with an old habit of Weller’s that he put in place: Whenever he was on the set, at the time of the Robocop 2 he told us, he wasn’t Peter, he was Robocop. (Click on the media bar below to hear Peter Weller) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Peter_weller_RoboCop_.mp3 Robocop and Robocop 2 are available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and most digital platforms.

Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film RoboCop has withstood the test of time. A whip-smart satire of the police industrial complex and capitalism, it has a unique and grimy flavor that’s rarely been replicated. And the premise of normal police officer Alex Murphy being turned into an unstoppable crime-stopping machine has an appeal that feels tailor made for video games. Years have passed and the RoboCop franchise has received numerous video game adaptations that range from arcade side scrollers to fighting games. Yet none have captured the feeling of the original film and the balance of style and substance it carried. None have ever made the player truly feel like a one-man war on crime in the streets of Detroit. None have ever really felt like RoboCop.
I’m wildly pleased to say that RoboCop: Rogue City changes all of that.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a first-person shooter set between the second and third RoboCop movies. Developed by Teyon (Terminator: Resistance), it follows our titular hero (wonderfully voiced by the irreplaceable Peter Weller) as he fights crime in Old Detroit and solves a slowly unraveling mystery. Along the way, RoboCop acquires gear, completes sidequests in vaguely open environments, and earns upgrades via a simple Xp system.
If you checked out towards the end of that description…well, I can’t blame you. The same words could easily describe any number of recent games (and more than a few adaptions). Rogue City doesn’t necessarily make a great first impression, and I’m not just talking about the game’s back-of-box credentials. Its outdated visuals, numerous technical problems, and the generally unrefined nature of the entire experience have already turned off more than a few potential fans. From bugs and half-finished...

The first-person-shooter video game RoboCop: Rogue City, which features the return of Peter Weller as the iconic hero RoboCop, is set to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store this Thursday, November 2nd. To remind us the game is right around the corner, a new trailer has arrived online – but this one only features a brief glimpse of the game. Instead, it’s mostly a live-action short in which we see RoboCop out on patrol. You can watch this live-action trailer in the embed above.
Peter Weller provides the voice of RoboCop in the video game, but of course they didn’t make the 76-year-old put on a costume or sit in the makeup chair for the live-action trailer.

If ever a character was born to headline a video game, it’s RoboCop. His main interaction with the world is through violence, and he’s capable of taking immense punishment from enemy henchmen in the process. As dystopic Detroit’s lone cyborg enforcer, he’s the center of every story, always entrusted with some critical mission. All the little quirks we’ve accepted as inherent to a center-of-the-universe video game protagonist are simply part of his character.
The only problem is that RoboCop isn’t very nimble. He’s unable to crouch or jump, and he can’t move at a pace faster than a brisk stroll. The ideal RoboCop game, then, likely involves the static shootouts of a light gun cabinet. But those are out of fashion, so RoboCop: Rogue City is instead a shooter with light open-world elements, RPG progression, and no shortage of mechanized toddling between quest markers.

RoboCop: Rogue City arrives later this week, and in anticipation, Teyon has released a new live-action trailer for Rogue City that sees RoboCop ride out once again into the streets of Old Detroit to combat crime. The trailer is admittedly a bit more lighthearted than the grittiness that one would expect from RoboCop, and it’s not Derek Mears under the helmet this time or Peter Weller, but hey, it’s fun!
The story for Rogue City takes place between RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, and sees RoboCop (played once again by Peter Weller) caught up in the gang violence in Old Detroit. Making matters worse is that the gangs have decided to throw in with the “new guy in town”. Previously unknown to the police, this new figure is behind a rash of disappearances, a variety of brazen crimes of all kinds and the trafficking of Nuke.

After decades spent firmly in the zeitgeist, the pop cultural legacy of "Star Trek" shows up in some unexpected places -- like an episode of Guillermo del Toro's horror anthology directed by "Mandy" filmmaker Panos Cosmatos. In a recent interview with Variety, production designer Tamara Deverell described the process of building the set for "The Interview," an episode of "Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities" that takes place largely inside a hazy, orange, retro-futuristic room.
Fans of "Cabinet of Curiosities" will remember "The Interview" as perhaps the show's trippiest installment. The hour stars comedians Eric André, Steve Agee, and Charlyne Yi, plus actress (and future "Rebel Moon" star) Sofia Boutella, actor Michael Therriault, and screen legend Peter Weller. In what appears to be a curious slow-burn experiment, a group of disparate people -- including a psychic, novelist, record producer, and astrophysicist -- are gathered together in a drug-filled mansion...

The recent trend of docu-feature series exploring the history of popular IPs is gradually becoming popular among dedicated fans due to how genuinely interesting and informative they can be. The most recently released among such ventures is the first season of Robodoc: The Creation of Robocop, a Screambox original, which takes a look back at the excruciating production process, development, and brainstorming that went behind the 1987 sci-fi classic Robocop. The movie is still considered one of the topmost sci-fi pieces ever released by Western media, which was not only topical and philosophical but it has also proven itself to be timeless, at least in the current era more than ever.

When someone says “There can be only one” what immediately pops into your head? For just about everyone it will be the movie Highlander. That’s how ingrained into pop culture the franchise has become. It’s impressive considering that the original film was actually a massive flop. Yep, the first film died at the box office and seemed destined to fall into obscurity. But just like the immortals in the film, it would rise from the dead and live on. The path to the first film wasn’t without its own pitfalls and near-death experiences. Let’s find out what happened to the 1986 film Highlander here on Wtf Happened To This Movie.

We’ll have to wait a little longer before we can start serving the public trust in RoboCop: Rogue City. Developer Teyon took to X/Twitter to announce that the game will be pushed back from its original September release for PC and consoles to a more definitive November 2.
This delay comes after Teyon had shown off a new gameplay trailer, along with several minutes of gameplay footage, at Gamescom last week. Furthermore, no mention of the delay was made last week. The developer also didn’t explain the reasoning for the delay, though given how stacked September and October are with highly-anticipated titles, it’s probably not a stretch to have that as a reason for Rogue City‘s delay.

The fan-funded, four-part docuseries RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop was acquired by Cinedigm last year, and the company is currently releasing the series through their Screambox streaming service, with episodes being released on a weekly basis starting today – but if you want to own the documentary on physical media, you’ll be glad to hear that RoboDoc is also set to receive a Blu-ray release in October! On October 17th, to be exact.
Our friends at Bloody Disgusting gave us the heads-up that a collector’s edition Blu-ray release of RoboDoc is available for pre-order through Amazon, and there’s also a steelbook that’s exclusive to Walmart. (It can be pre-ordered through the Walmart website.)
Coming to us from Dead Mouse Productions Ltd and Cult Screenings UK Ltd, RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop is a fully independent retrospective into the making of RoboCop and its cultural impact over the last 30 years.
