In addition, Arnell has participated in numerous collaborations with figures like Helmut Newton, Duane Michaels, Neil Slavin, Peter Lindbergh, Denis Piel, Lance Wyman, Paul Rand, Frank Gehry, David Hockney, Muhammad Ali, Tom Brady, Buzz Aldrin, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Lorne Michaels, Steven Spielberg, Tina Turner, Jay-Z, Gwyneth Paltrow, Spike Lee, and Michael Jackson, to name just a few. A prolific photographer, Arnell's work has appeared commercially for numerous fashion and lifestyle brands, and his fine art photography has been included in group and solo exhibitions around the world.
Arnell started his career working in the offices of Robert A.M. Stern and Michael Graves before designing and editing over 20 books on contemporary architecture, art, and photography for Rizzoli International Publications. He began specializing in design, branding, and product development with the founding of Arnell/Bickford in 1980. A twenty-year retrospective of his work Made in Brooklyn was published in 1996, and his New York Times best-seller, Shift- How to Reinvent Your Business, Your Career, and Your Personal Brand appeared in 2010. Hatje Cantz is currently producing a two-volume publication that celebrates over four decades of tireless innovation and provides rich insight into a creative mind and an exceptionally diverse body of work; which will be released in the fall of 2021.
He has received countless awards for his work including the first non-fashion designer to be awarded by the CFDA for his work with Donna Karan in 1987. He is also the recipient of multiple Clio Awards, the Gold IDEA Award from Business Week and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
In addition to his professional work, Arnell has given back to the community in countless ways including serving as a member of the Board of the Special Olympics for over a decade, a 25-year history of working with the FDNY and he currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors to the FDNY Foundation.
