‘Game of Thrones’ alumni, Emilia Clarke, has been set to star in the Amazon crime drama series ‘Criminal.’
The adaptation of the graphic novels by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips follows an interlocking universe of crime stories. Clarke has been set to take the lead in the role of Mallory, who is a slick and daring armed robber, as quick with a gun as she is with her wits. Part of a heist crew with Ricky Lawless (Halper), who she’s in a passionate Bonnie-and-Clyde-like affair with. As Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir (now seemingly titled Spider-Noir) live-action series sets about casting its supporting players, we may know one of the villains Nicolas's Cage's take on the Depression-era wall-crawler will be up against.
According to Daniel Richtman, a version of Flint Marko, aka The Sandman, will appear in the show. We don't know if this is the character Brendan Gleeson will play or if Marko will be the main bad guy, but we'd say he will more likely be a secondary antagonist.
If the show follows the comics, this version of The Sandman will be a little more grounded than the one played by Thomas Haden Church in Spider-Man 3 and No Way Home. Though he still has superpowers, they only allow him to turn his body into solid stone, making him impervious to injury.

Longlegs star Nicolas Cage voiced the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and now he’s set to play the character in live-action for an upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video series that appears to be going by the title Spider-Noir. During an interview with The New Yorker, Cage dropped some quotes about Spider-Noir, mentioning that the show is expected to consist of eight episodes… and it will involve monsters.
Spider-Noir first came up in the conversation when Cage was asked if he sees himself as part of a category of actors. He said, “The fantasy would be that I could try to aspire to be something more Golden Age. You know, something more like James Cagney or Humphrey Bogart. Or Hedy Lamarr or Bette Davis. I wanted to have that kind of aura, you know, like the more enigmatic, you don’t know too much.

“Spider- Noir” is the title of a new live-action TV series, based on a variant of Marvel Comics “Spider-Man”, starring Nicolas Cage, Brendan Gleeson and Lamorne Morris, streaming in 2025 on MGM+ and Prime Video:
“…part of the ‘Marvel Noir’ universe (‘Earth-90214’), this alternate version of ‘Spider-Man’ emerges in a version of New York during the ‘Great Depression’.
“While investigating a smuggling ring, ‘Peter Parker’ is bitten by a highly-venomous spider housed inside a spider-god idol.
“Falling unconscious, Parker has a vision of the spider-god promising him power. He then awakens inside a cocoon and emerges from it, now possessing super-human abilities similar to a spider.
“The feared vigilante ‘The Spider-Man’ wages a one-man war against the criminal underworld in New York City, partly to avenge the deaths of his uncle ‘Ben Parker’ at the hands of ‘Adrian Toomes‘…

Tom Cruise is an extraordinarily busy man. When he’s not defying death on the set of a Mission: Impossible movie, lighting up the red carpet, or making deals to help reinvigorate the theater-going experience, you can find him watching movies with Doug Liman. I’m not kidding. According to Liman, he and Cruise watched their collaborative film Edge of Tomorrow together and are still discussing making a sequel.
Speaking with Empire magazine, Liman told the outlet, “No, we keep talking about it,” when asked if an Edge of Tomorrow sequel is in the cards. “We love that world,” Liman added, “Tom and I just actually rewatched it about two months ago, because I hadn’t seen it in 10 years,” Liman said. “I was like, ‘Wow, that is a really good movie.'”

Initially intended as a standalone film, ‘Joker’ (2019) was originally not envisioned to have sequels. However, Warner Bros. aimed to use it to launch DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films distinct from the DC Extended Universe. Despite this, director Todd Phillips expressed interest in continuing the story with a sequel.
By November 2019, the sequel was officially confirmed to be in development. Following the announcement, it was disclosed that Lady Gaga would join Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker as Harley Quinn. Phillips justified casting Gaga by citing his familiarity with her exceptional performance in ‘A Star is Born,’ which he had produced, describing it as nothing short of magical.
Lady Gaga recently remarked that she intends to bring a unique and authentic interpretation to the role of Harley Quinn, sparking varied reactions among fans. Some eagerly anticipate her performance, while others argue that her casting might overshadow Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of Joker.

We got confirmation earlier this year that Sony Pictures is moving forward with a live-action Spider-Man Noir series for Amazon Prime Video, with Nicolas Cage set to play the hero after voicing him in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Now, Daniel Richtman is reporting that Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast as a villain.
We don't have much more to go on, but in the comics, Noir faces off against multiple redesigned versions of pretty much every classic Spidey foe, including the Goblin, Vulture, Electro, and Doctor Octopus.
If this is accurate - and Richtman has been spot on with these casting scoops of late - expect the trades to confirm soon.
The series will reportedly follow an "ageing and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero," but this take...

Back in 2008, the accomplished playwright Martin McDonagh made his directorial debut with In Bruges, a movie that blended several genres including black comedy, drama, and crime thriller. Over the years, it has acquired a cult status.
If you enjoyed the cast, quite an absurd tone and unique narration of McDonagh’s notorious first movie, you shouldn’t miss his most recent tragicomedy that is now climbing HBO’s global top despite being released two years ago.
Set on a remote island in Ireland, the film tells the unsettling story of two lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm. Their relationship seems unbreakable, but it is Colm himself who decides to put an end to their friendship all of a sudden.
This news leaves Pádraic devastatingly stunned, but he doesn’t want to lose a friend, so he aims to repair their relationship at all costs, refusing to take no for an answer.
If you enjoyed the cast, quite an absurd tone and unique narration of McDonagh’s notorious first movie, you shouldn’t miss his most recent tragicomedy that is now climbing HBO’s global top despite being released two years ago.

Being recognized as one of the main action stars of the 21st century, the If actor made his name known all around the world with his thriller Buried (2010) and a number of superhero flicks, including Green Lantern (2011) and, of course, Deadpool (2016).
However, there is a lesser-known movie starring Reynolds that blends thriller and action elements. Even though it was aired in 2012 and was thought to be forgotten, it is now holding the third place in Netflix’s global chart, topping Glen Powell’s Hit Man.
The film’s plot revolves around Matt Weston (played by Reynolds), a CIA officer on a low-level posting in Cape Town, South Africa. He eventually gets a chance to prove himself, as he’s in charge of a safe house where agents are interrogating a renegade.
The operation doesn’t go as planned, as all of a sudden it gets interfered with by an attack of mercenaries.

Across his career, Tom Cruise has made many all-time-great movies – from his early character drama work in A Few Good Men and Jerry Maguire, to the high-flying Top Gun and its sequel Maverick, to… well, every Mission: Impossible movie. But in recent years, there’s been another Cruise movie that’s stood particularly tall – Edge Of Tomorrow, the alien-attack time-loop movie that sees Cruise get splattered again and again while trying to figure out how to beat the marauding ‘Mimics’ intent on taking over Earth. The film, directed by Doug Liman and co-starring Emily Blunt, sadly didn’t set the box office alight on release, but picked up a major following as a top-tier Cruise movie – and the star clearly agrees.
On social media, Cruise shared a thread celebrating 10 years since Edge Of Tomorrow hit the big screen – celebrating the movie, and shouting out his collaborators. “I want to take...

When Doug Liman's sci-fi actioner "Edge of Tomorrow" was released in 2014, it opened to a mere $28.7 million at the domestic box office. This was considered a minor scandal at the time, as the film was roundly praised by critics for its slick wartime combat sequences, clever time-loop premise, and charismatic leading performances from stars Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise. Many also saw "Edge of Tomorrow" as an antidote to the ascendant tide of Marvel movies that had, by then, completely infiltrated the cinema marketplace. Recall that 2014 was the year of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Captain America: The Winter Solider," two wildly popular films that, perhaps because of their popularity, invited early invitations of the phrase "Marvel fatigue."
"Edge of Tomorrow" was often touted as proof that great, original films — that is: not driven by marketable I.P. — were still being made. Its paltry opening was held up as...

Teri Hayden, an Irish talent agent who launched the careers of Gabriel Byrne (“The Usual Suspects”), Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and more, died in Dublin on April 18 following a long illness. She was 75.
Hayden’s career first began in the early 1980s when she noticed there was a demand for expanding actors’ representation in Ireland. “Coming from a background of finance she intuited that Irish theatre, television and film were about to expand though there was little evidence for this at the time. Soon she became Ireland’s premier agent and rapidly won respect and recognition in a then mostly male preserve,” James Byron, a friend of the family, wrote in a statement.
“Never one to seek the limelight, she was however a fearless negotiator, determined to secure the best possible deal for her clients. She was also responsible for anonymously brokering projects even when she had no stake in the production.

Post-apocalyptic stories have always held a special place in the hearts of film enthusiasts. There is just something about seeing what would happen if a zombie apocalypse was somehow going to become a reality. After all, these films can be pretty helpful in giving notes on how to survive. Cillian Murphy’s 28 Days Later is one such post-apocalyptic horror film that received positive reviews from critics.

Teri Hayden, an agent who guided the careers of such notable Irish actors as Gabriel Byrne, Ruth Negga, Brendan Gleeson and his son, Domhnall Gleeson, died April 18 in hospice care in Dublin after a long illness. She was 75.
In the early 1980s, Hayden, coming from a background in finance, anticipated the growth of Irish theater, television and film and with that an increasing demand for actors’ representation at home. It was Byrne who encouraged her to become a rep, and she launched The Agency.
“Never one to seek the limelight, she was however a fearless negotiator, determined to secure the best possible deal for her clients,” James Byron, a friend of her family, said in a statement. “She was also responsible for anonymously brokering projects even when she had no stake in the production.
“Despite the offer of a lucrative buyout by a major Hollywood agency, she refused to surrender her independence.

For some reason, there has yet to be a mainstream Hollywood feature film about Donald Trump dramatizing any aspect of Trump's life, with an actor portraying him.
There have been countless documentaries about Trump, both for him and against him, and various comedians have portrayed him, including Alec Baldwin and later James Austin Johnson on Saturday Night Live.
The Comey Rule, a 2020 Showtime miniseries based on the memoirs of former FBI director James Comey, starred Brendan Gleeson as the 45th president, opposite Jeff Daniels as Comey.
At the same time, quite a few feature films, like The Oath in 2018 and Irresistible and The Hunt in 2020, have attempted to make dramatic hay out of the political controversies of the Trump years.
However, those who have not featured a Trump-based character have not referenced him directly.

It looks as though director Todd Phillips has officially finished Joker: Folie a Deux, with the MPAA officially granting it an R-rating for “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality, and brief full nudity.” On the latter, it looks like Joker is about to show us the full monty, doesn’t it? At any rate, the R-rating isn’t a surprise, as that’s what the first film got, and I imagine a PG-13 sequel would have landed with a thud, as fans expect this to be as hardcore and uncompromising as the original.

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux debuted during CinemaCon last month, giving us an intriguing glimpse of some footage from Todd Phillips' DC "Elseworlds" sequel.
In what would seem to be a major change to the usual character dynamic, the teaser revealed that Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) meets Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga) as a fellow patient(?) in Arkham Asylum, and it looks like she'll be the one asserting influence over him.
While speaking to Access Hollywood, Gaga teased her new interpretation of the popular Batman villain, who has generally been portrayed as more of an anti-hero in recent years.
“You know, my version of Harley is mine and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters,” said the Oscar and Grammy Award winner. “I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun.

“Joker” (2019) was originally intended to be a standalone film without sequels. However, Warner Bros. envisioned it as the beginning of DC Black, a series of darker, more experimental films separate from the DC Extended Universe. Despite the original plan, director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel.
By November 2019, development on the sequel was confirmed, and in 2023, James Gunn stated that “Joker: Folie à Deux” would not be part of the mainline Dcu. Instead, it will be released under the “Elseworlds” label, in line with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” franchise.
Shortly after the sequel was announced, it was revealed that Lady Gaga would portray Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. Todd Phillips explained that he cast Lady Gaga because he had witnessed her mesmerizing performance in “A Star is Born,” where he served as a producer.

On August 9, 2017, a TV show premiered with two huge names attached — Stephen King (one of the most successful writers alive) and David E. Kelley (one of the most successful TV creators alive) — and no one saw it. That show? Mr. Mercedes, an adaptation of King’s 2014 novel, the first in a trilogy about a detective named Bill Hodges and the psychopath that got away. But while your mileage may vary when it comes to the book — and the work of Kelley, who created shows like The Practice and Ally McBeal — neither of them are to blame. The problem was that it premiered on the Audience Network, a pay channel owned by AT&T that nobody knew how to find.
After the Audience Network folded in 2020, Mr. Mercedes, which somehow managed to get three full seasons, rolled over to Peacock. A good thing, too, as it’s got a cast to die for — Brendan Gleeson,...

Barry Keoghan smiled from ear to ear as Andrea Arnold’s latest film, “Bird,” earned a seven-minute standing ovation at its Cannes Film Festival premiere on Thursday.
Festival favorite Arnold, who brought the Shia Labeouf-starring “American Honey” to Cannes in 2016 and her documentary “Cow” in 2021, basked in appreciation as the audience applauded the drama. “Thank you, this is really lovely but I really want to go and party right now,” she said as laughter erupted in the room.
While Keoghan was the biggest name in “Bird,” the loudest cheers were offered to his young co-stars, including Jason Buda and Jasmine Jobson. Some of the cast, although they may have been on the red carpet outside, were too young to make it into the screening.

Originally conceived as a standalone film without sequels, ‘Joker’ (2019) was intended to inaugurate DC Black, a series of darker and more experimental films distinct from the DC Extended Universe. Despite this, director Todd Phillips expressed interest in a sequel.
By November 2019, the sequel was officially confirmed to be in development. In 2023, Gunn confirmed that ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ would not be part of the mainline Dcu; instead, it would be released under the ‘Elseworlds’ label, aligning with Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ franchise.
The cast of the upcoming ‘Joker’ is set, with Joaquin Phoenix portraying Arthur Fleck, also known as The Joker, a mentally troubled criminal with a clown-inspired persona. Lady Gaga takes on the role of Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, an asylum inmate who becomes fixated on Arthur. Zazie Beetz plays Sophie Dumond, Arthur’s former neighbor, and a single mother. Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

Orlando Bloom is willing his memory of starring in “Troy” to wilt.
Bloom, who portrayed Paris, the Prince of Troy, whose affair with Queen Helen (Diane Kruger) ignited the Trojan War, revealed that he “didn’t want to do the movie” at all, despite the 2004 historical feature being a box office success.
During a career retrospective interview with Variety, Bloom admitted he “blanked out” the film from his own career and mind.
“Oh my god, ‘Troy.’ Wow. I think I just blanked that movie out of my brain by the way,” Bloom said. “So many people love that movie, but for me playing that character was just like [slits throat]. Am I allowed to say all of these things? I didn’t want to do the movie. I didn’t want to play this character.”

Orlando Bloom has fond memories of making movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Lord of the Rings,” but Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 historical epic “Troy” is a different story. During an interview for Variety’s “Know Their Lines” video series, Bloom blanked on one of the lines said by his “Troy” character Paris (he thought it must be from “Kingdom of Heaven” or “Lord of the Rings”) and admitted that he has mostly blocked the movie out of his mind.
