- Tall, lantern-jawed Scottish character actor, who studied engineering at Glasgow University but failed to graduate. He was a teacher for twenty years, before entering the acting profession in the 1940's, with Glasgow's Citizens Theatre Company. Later became president of the Scottish branch of Equity.
