Matthew B.P. Daniels
- Director
- Actor
- Writer
Daniels'career in film didn't really start until he was 27. He toyed
with video production at school, made a few short films, but despite
having a real passion for the medium he went on to study English at
Swansea University and settled working as a graduate for a large global
IT company.
His first steps into the film industry were far from conventional. Working as a coder on the UK's income tax-system he made a name for himself producing creative graphics and bespoke tools. His skills were soon noticed and he was moved from programming to communications where he made videos and lead internal promotional campaigns.
With no budget, Daniels set about crafting a true guerrilla film around existing resources and available locations. After 3 years of hard slog along side his corporate job he created the post-apocalyptic thriller 'Powerless'. The film went on to premiere at the Cardiff International Film Festival to a sell-out crowd garnering strong reviews and media attention surrounding the 'real family' stars of the film the tiny budget and Daniels' resourcefulness an unconventional methods. Daniels went on to take the film to 10 other festivals in the UK and USA including a screening at the world famous Mann Theatre complex on Hollywood Boulevard.
Following the success of Powerless at festivals, Daniels founded This Can Motion Pictures (2006) and set about carving out a niche for himself in the industry. This Can went on to create its own distribution label for the UK 'Revolution Releasing' through which 'Powerless' was distributed to big names such as Blockbuster and Love Film. His company also creates a range of commercial work for a number of international clients. However, more importantly 'Powerless' gave Daniels the credibility he needed to peruse a career in film.
Daniels is known for his charisma and enthusiasm helping him to bring disparate groups of people together to work on projects, often for free! His mix of creativity and technical experience allows him to be at the cutting edge of true 'guerrilla' film making. Making a full feature on the fraction of the budget of some 10 minute shorts helps him to focus on both the creative and commercial potential of a film. He is keen on the use of emerging technologies for production and promotion - notably funding post-production on 'Powerless' buy selling credits in the film on eBay and premiering his most recent feature 'Finding Their Feet' on Facebook when the movie gets 10,000 likes.
Daniels continues to demonstrate his creativity, love of story and ability to create something moving and beautiful on a tight budget in his latest feature - 'Finding Their Feet'
