Young Sheldon’s antepenultimate episode featured a surplus of callbacks and Big Bang Theory Easter eggs — from Sheldon beginning his ritual of knocking three times before he enters a room, to Missy alluding to Sheldon finding a “smart, weird girlfriend” out in California, to which Sheldon scoffed, “I have a girlfriend and her name is Science.”
There was also a plethora of returning characters, including King Kong Comics patron Nate (played by theme song composer/performer Steve Burns), Medford High faculty members Mr. Givens (Brian Stepanek) and Ms. Hitchens (Sarah Baker) and — last but not least — Sheldon’s childhood bestie...

As an actor, Matthew Perry was nominated for four Emmys. He was a regular in the generation-defining ensemble smash Friends and, as a guest star, seamlessly integrated into the spectacular ensemble on shows like The West Wing and The Good Wife.
The show that best understood Perry’s sensibility and, more than that, the essence of what he projected best onscreen may not have been one of his signature successes, and may not be one of the first half-dozen shows that heartbroken fans look back on as we reflect on Perry, who died this weekend at 54. Empirically, it wasn’t a success at all.
Go On ran for 22 episodes on NBC between 2012 and 2013 and was canceled after that lone season. It has fans — any show with an ensemble that included Tyler James Williams, Laura Benanti, Brett Gelman, Sarah Baker, John Cho and more is going to find fans — but only a small audience.

Alan Arkin was remembered by his friends and colleagues as a giant talent in film, television and theater, a man whose winding life paths seemed to be able to transform any role. But it was the small gestures that were most prominent, the little generosities that stayed with people many years.
The outpouring of remembrances included some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Michael Douglas saluted Arkin’s long career.
“Today we lost a wonderful actor whose intelligence, sense of comedy and consummate professionalism over the past 70 years has left an indelible mark on our industry. My experience of working with Alan were some of my most memorable. He will be deeply missed. Sincere condolences to his wife, Suzanne, and his family.”

When it came time to follow the unbridled success of “Modern Family,” nine-time Emmy Award winner Steven Levitan went back to an idea he had during the ABC comedy’s incredible run. Inspired by the ABC reboot of “Roseanne” and the show’s backstage drama, what if someone created a comedy series about a fictional comedy reboot series and the messy relationships that only got more complicated in the years away. The result is the Hulu comedy “Reboot,” a very funny meta series about Hulu’s attempts to bring a ‘90s series back from the dead.
So much of “Reboot” is steeped in television history. Its cast is filled with recognizable actors who have had success on other shows, like Paul Reiser, Judy Greer, Keegan-Michael Key and Rachel Bloom, and its jokes will make anyone with even a passing knowledge of the industry and Hollywood itself chortle. But the show...

The SAG Awards: when you're here, you're family. Amid all the onscreen and real-life family members in attendance on Feb. 27, Emily Osment and Haley Joel Osment made a heartwarming appearance that reminded viewers they are indeed siblings.
Not only that, but the Osments are also costars and respectively portray Theresa and Robby on "The Kominsky Method," which was nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series. In addition to striking silly poses together, the two also posed on the red carpet with their other costars, including Paul Reiser, Sarah Baker, and Melissa Tang.
It's been a few years since Emily and Haley Joel's last, big joint appearance, which was at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in 2016. See photos from their most recent outing ahead.

At this year’s Emmy Awards, the final season of Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” went out on a nominations high, earning six bids for its last six episodes. The Chuck Lorre series hopes to maintain that momentum at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards, where it will be eligible for the last time. Though the competition among comedy series has only heated up since the summer, “Kominsky” looks right on the cusp of some farewell nominations.
According to our current combined odds, “The Kominsky Method” and its leading man Michael Douglas, who plays title character Sandy Kominsky, are both in sixth place in Comedy Ensemble and Comedy Actor, respectively. Those nominations would not be surprising, as the show has earned bids in those categories for both of its prior seasons, though it has not taken home a SAG trophy yet. Six months after debuting its final season, Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” has just revealed to Gold Derby the names of the 12 cast members who are eligible for the ensemble prize at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Two-time SAG Award winner Michael Douglas is joined by former nominees including Paul Reiser and Sarah Baker, plus new addition Kathleen Turner. See the alphabetical list below.
“The Kominsky Method” has a strong track record at the SAG Awards. Its first two seasons both earned three nominations for ensemble, Douglas and Alan Arkin. Arkin departed the series before the final installment, so he will not be eligible. Gold Derby anticipates the series is competitive to hold onto its other two nominations, though, with both the ensemble and Douglas in sixth place in our current combined odds.

When current Emmy nominee Paul Reiser first appeared on Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” in its second season, he looked nearly unrecognizable. Introduced as a boyfriend for Mindy Kominsky (Sarah Baker), Reiser’s character Martin strikes Sandy (Michael Douglas) as a strange mate for Mindy, who’s decades his junior. But beyond their age difference and underneath Reiser’s bald cap and aging hipster ponytail are hidden reserves of the same lovable imperfections that made Emmy voters fall in love with his performance on “Mad About You,” which earned him 10 nominations as actor and executive producer.
Reiser delivered one of the best onscreen performances of his career in the second season of “Kominsky” in the episode “Chapter 14: A Secret Leaks, a Teacher Speaks,” when Sandy asks Martin to introduce himself to his acting class from the stage. After a perfunctory few sentences about his former career as a high school teacher,...

Paul Reiser was nominated 10 times at the Emmys for the NBC sitcom “Mad About You” — six for Best Comedy Actor and four as a producer when the show was cited in Best Comedy Series. He lost them all. Now the actor is nominated for the first time in his career for a non-“Mad” project, Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method.” Reiser is contending in Best Comedy Supporting Actor for playing Martin Schneider, the much older boyfriend of Mindy (Sarah Baker), who befriends her father Sandy (Michael Douglas).
Reiser has submitted the second episode of this third and final season to Emmy judges, titled “You only give me your funny paper.” Directed by Andy Tennant from a script by Chuck Lorre, it’s the episode where Mindy begins seeing Martin in a new light. Reiser joined “The Kominsky Method” in Season 2 in a recurring role. After Alan Arkin left the show,...

For four decades, Kathleen Turner has been a star. After bursting onto the scene as the sultry temptress in Lawrence Kasdan‘s 1981 film “Body Heat,” Turner has captivated audiences with successes on both stage and screen, from thrilling us as adventurer Joan Wilder in two “Romancing the Stone” movies to making us laugh as the seductive Jessica Rabbit. She has been nominated for one Academy Award (“Peggy Sue Got Married”), two Tony Awards and five Golden Globe Awards, winning two.
Yet Turner has never even been nominated for an Emmy.
That all may change this year, since she has become a prime contender for her supporting work in the comedy series “The Kominsky Method.” As Roz Volander, a doctor treating patients in the jungles of Colombia and the ex-wife of Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas), Turner briefly appeared in one episode in Season Two but has now been brought on board...

“The Kominsky Method” saved the best for its third and final season. Ironically, there was never supposed to be a third season of the Chuck Lorre-created comedy starring Michael Douglas as Sandy Kominsky, a Hollywood acting teacher with a messy private life. “I just read the first script of the first season and the writing was so darn good I just wanted to it,” said Douglas during a Deadline Zoom conversation. “It was an original, two-year commitment contract with Netflix.” But Douglas wasn’t ready to let Sandy go. “I kind of pushed for this third season,” he said.
Alan Arkin, who played his long-suffering agent, Bff and conscious, bowed out after the second year. “Alan is a few years older than me. It’s tough doing these shows anyway, moving as quickly as this. I think two seasons was fine for him.” Lorre was also eager for a...

Moviegoers have been flocking to see their favorite romantic couples on the silver screen since the early days of cinema from John Gilbert and Greta Garbo, Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, Olivia de Havilland and Errol Flynn, Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland and more recently Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan and Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. But none of those partnerships have endured nearly four decades. Until now.
Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner first starred together in Robert Zemeckis’ romantic 1984 comedy adventure “Romancing the Stone,” which was the eighth-highest grossing film of the year, winning the Golden Globe for best comedy or musical and Turner winning the Globe for actress in the same category. “If it was all rosy, you’d have no comedy. Comedy necessitates things to go awry,” Paul Reiser observes about the challenges that face his character Martin and Sarah Baker’s Mindy in the third and final season of Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method.” Baker and Reiser play an unlikely but lovely couple on the cusp of an engagement when their relationship hits an unexpected money snag. Baker credits the fact that “they’re both quirky people in different ways” for helping Mindy and Martin weather the storm. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Baker reflects on Mindy’s three-season journey on the show, saying that she feels her series arc “was a natural evolution.” Since the first episode, Mindy branches out from her relationship with father Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas), takes on more responsibility at his acting studio, and starts a fulfilling relationship with Martin. Netflix has unveiled the season three trailer for The Kominsky Method, which teases a Norman Newlander-less final chapter.
Set to premiere on May 28, The Kominsky Method season three will no longer feature Sandy Kominsky’s (Michael Douglas) dear friend and agent Norman Newlander (Alan Arkin). Back in September, Deadline learned exclusively that the Oscar-winner would not return for the Netflix series’ third and final season.
Though the trailer doesn’t reveal anything specific about how Norman passed, it teases scenes of Sandy and his closest friends at the agent’s funeral. As some are in the dark about Arkin’s exit from the series, The Kominsky Method characters are left wondering about what led to Norman’s death.
“Scientology,” one character speculates in the trailer.
Netflix also teased guest stars Morgan Freeman and Barry Levinson in the trailer and key images, which you can see below.

Morgan Freeman and Barry Levinson to guest star as themselves in the Netflix comedy’s final season
Michael Douglas is going solo in the final season of Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” after his co-star Alan Arkin exited the series last year.
A new trailer for the six-episode final outing reveals that Douglas’s character Sandy Kominsky has been tasked with executing Norman’s (Arkin) will. It also reveals guest appearances by Morgan Freeman and Barry Levinson, playing versions of themselves as Sandy looks to reignite his acting career.
According to Netflix, his life “only becomes more with the arrival of Sandy’s ex-wife Roz Volander (Kathleen Turner).”
“The pair’s famously volatile relationship is further inflamed when she comes to Los Angeles to spend time with their daughter Mindy (Sarah Baker) and her boyfriend Martin (Paul Reiser),” the description continues. “This season of “The Kominsky Method” deals with money,...

Netflix's The Kominsky Method will conclude during the second quarter of 2021.
The hit series will premiere its third -- and final -- season on Friday, May 28.
As previously reported, Alan Arkin will not be returning, meaning that Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas) will be flying solo during the six-episode final season.
Deadline stated that Arkin announced his departure ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning that it was already in the works before the world was ravaged.
The series will certainly feel different without him, but there's a good chance it will be addressed.
Norman first arrived on the show when he was grieving the loss of his wife, but his arc was seemingly fulfilled by the end of the second season as he found a new love in an old friend.

Created by nine-time Emmy nominee Chuck Lorre, the series centers on Sandy Kominsky (Oscar winner Michael Douglas), an aging actor and acting coach who has navigated the challenges of growing older alongside his close friend, Norman (Oscar winner Alan Arkin) — but now has to do so without him. Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer Are Superhero Best Friends in Netflix’s ‘Thunder Force’ Trailer
Netflix released the official trailer for “Thunder Force,” which stars Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer as two best friends with newly acquired superpowers. The film is set to make its streaming debut on April 9.
The superhero comedy is directed by Ben Falcone, who previously worked with McCarthy on films such as “Tammy,” “The Boss,” “Life of the Party” and HBO Max’s “Superintelligence.” His new film is expected to poke fun at comic book movie tropes while delivering some good-hearted laughs.
The trailer sees Lydia (McCarthy) reunite with her childhood best friend, Emily Stanton (Spencer), a successful scientist that has created technology that grants ordinary people superpowers. After being told not to touch anything, McCarthy accidentally takes the only formula for super strength, unwillingly creating the first real-life superhero team. More bad news for good television, but this time, it doesn't appear to be related to the coronavirus response.
When The Kominsky Method returns to Netflix, leading man, Sandy Kominsky, played by Michael Douglas, will be flying solo.
That's right. His trusty wingman and agent, Norman Newlander will be off the grid.
Deadline reported this story, and they indicated that Alan Arkin, who played Norman, made the decision not to return to the series well before the coronavirus hit the fan.
It sure seems strange that Arkin indicated his preference not to go beyond two seasons when you look at the end of The Kominsky Method Season 2, but it is true to life.

The adventures of Michael Douglas’ Sandy Kominsky and Alan Arkin’s Norman Newlander will be coming to an end in a third and final season of The Kominsky Method at Netflix.
The streamer has renewed Chuck Lorre’s half-hour comedy for one last season – although the digital platform has not confirmed how many episodes it will be.
The second season premiered in October 2019. It’s not clear when production will start, but obviously it will be once filming can safely resume, particularly given Arkin and Douglas’ age puts them in the at-risk category in terms of Covid-19.
The Kominsky Method follows Douglas as Sandy Kominsk, an aging former actor-turned-acting coach and his agent and friend Norman Newlander (Arkin). In season two, they continue to navigate their later years in LA with new challenges – Kominsky deals with health issues as well as his daughter’s new boyfriend, played by Paul Reiser,...

It's hard not to suggest that The Kominsky Method wasn't Chuck Lorre's answer to its popular female equivalent, Grace and Frankie.
But by the time The Kominsky Method Season 2 begins, the characters are established, and with their more distinct personalities, it's not so much a comparison as it is a story about two genuine characters in their own right.
Still, much like its successful predecessor, The Komnisky Method Season 2 doubles down on its examination of aging, and it hits the mark.
The more people you have in your life struggling with the same issues, the more likely you'll be to get the same kick out of it, but the humor is so on point that it reaches across the ages.
What's most interesting about this new season is the decision to separate Michael Douglas' Sandy Kominsky and Alan Arkin's Norman Newlander to widen the scope a bit.
