- Two different versions of the closing "A Paramount Release" card exist - one print has these words appear inside the standard Paramount logo of the time superimposed in red, while another has these words as plain text with a small version of a completely different Paramount logo (with a full circle of stars), also in red, beneath them.
- On the original VHS release of the film, during the scene in the tent between Burton, O'Toole and Veronique Vendell, O'Toole whips the sheet of of Vendell, revealing another sheet. When the film was released on DVD, O'Toole removes the sheet to reveal a nude Vendell. Obviously there were two scenes shot. Based on the slightly degraded quality of the soundtrack, one can assume that the nude version was a scrapped alternate take. It was probably not used in the released theatrical version.
- Unavailable for years, it has been restored by the by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with the support of Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation. This restored version premiered in London in 2003 and new 35mm prints recently toured the U.S. Film will be re-released in 70mm taken from an original 65mm negative.
