Secret agents going rogue is such a common trope that sometimes we wish that people like Ethan Hunt or Jason Bourne would just follow their orders for change. When Daniel Craig started playing James Bond in 2006, it seemed like Bond went rogue on nearly every single mission, including most of Quantum of Solace, at least half of Skyfall, and basically, the first two-thirds of No Time To Die. Pierce Brosnan’s Bond went rogue in Die Another Day, too, with a full beard and no shirt, declaring “I’m checking out” from a hospital. And of course, Connery’s Bond was on an unsanctioned revenge mission at the start of Diamonds Are Forever.
But the most compelling Bond-goes-rogue movie of them all to this day remains Licence to Kill, which in 1989, would become the unintended swan song from Timothy Dalton’s fierce take on the character.

Show-stopping stunts have long been as important to the James Bond movie formula as gadgets, villains, and the appropriate amount of workday martinis. While the early Connery movies didn’t emphasize such stunts quite as much as future installments did, audiences soon came to expect in the 1970s to see Bond put his life on the line in some incredible stunt sequence for queen, country, and our entertainment.
While other action franchises have certainly raised the bar for film stunts since then, there is a charm to the best Bond stunts that can’t easily be replicated. They’re conceptually creative, they’re often done practically, and they have gradually helped shape the considerable mythology of the world’s greatest spy. They’re as stylish as an expertly tailored suit and as dangerous as an assignment from M. These are the best James Bond stunts ever.

By now, everyone agrees that 1985’s Fletch, starring Chevy Chase, is a classic comedy. Indeed, the mixture of thriller and comedy made the movie iconic in its own way, with it an adaptation of the classic series by Gregory Mcdonald. In it, Chase played investigative reporter Irwin M. Fletcher, who is hired to kill a millionaire in a case of mistaken identity and is able to uncover a conspiracy involving corrupt cops, drug trafficking, and more. What made the movie unique compared to many eighties comedies was the compelling storyline, which came from Mcdonald’s book, the solid mixture of action and comedy, and that amazing soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer.
It was such a big hit that in 1989, it got a sequel, Fletch Lives. However, while the first film is considered a classic, many maintain that the sequel is terrible, mostly because it didn’t bother to adapt one of...

Alec Mills, who served as a camera operator on five James Bond films before graduating to cinematographer on the Timothy Dalton-starring The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, has died. He was 91.
Mills died Monday, his son, Simon Mills, announced. He battled dementia and was living in an assisted care home in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England, he said.
For 007 movies, Mills operated a camera on Peter Hunt’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), Lewis Gilbert’s The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979), and John Glen’s For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Octopussy (1983).
Glen then made him his director of photography on the only two Bond films to star Dalton, The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989), with the latter shooting mostly at Churubusco Studios in Mexico City.
Mills also was a camera operator on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1969), Roman Polanski’s Tragedy of Macbeth (1971), Gulliver’s Travels (1973), John Guillermin’s...

In many ways, Timothy Dalton's James Bond was before his time. Following the more tongue-in-cheek approach taken by Roger Moore, Dalton debuted as Bond in 1987's "The Living Daylights" as a more hard-edged 007 that wasn't a far cry from what Daniel Craig would bring to the role some 16 years later. Dalton would continue that more character-focused portrayal with 1989's "Licence to Kill," but at the time, not all critics were convinced.
Among all the James Bond movies, Dalton's two outings are by no means viewed as blunders. But they aren't necessarily seen as all-time classics, either. Dalton never really got the scripts he deserved, and it seems longtime Bond producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli may have seen it similarly. After "Licence to Kill," Broccoli decided to part ways with Richard Maibaum, though the writer claims he left "by mutual consent." Maibaum had co-written the movie that kicked off the Bond franchise,...

Being an international super spy comes with its share of drawbacks, which apparently include upsetting censors around the world. While James Bond has faced numerous censorship struggles throughout his more than 60-year on-screen run, he's often had a particular issue in his home country. For example, the original ending of 1971's "Diamonds Are Forever" was a little too S&m for the British censors, and was initially supposed to depict Jill St. John's Tiffany Case being tied to a bed by the charmingly bizarre Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd (Bruce Glover and Putter Smith respectively). That was very quickly nixed by UK censors who felt it was a little too kinky even for Bond.
But kink was less of a concern for the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) than violence. In a 2006 interview with Caped Wonder, "Diamonds" writer Tom Mankiewicz explained how "largely, the Brits cared a great...

After parting ways with the Doom Patrol, Timothy Dalton is making tracks for Montana with a role in Paramount+’s upcoming Yellowstone prequel 1923, our sister site Deadline reports.
The next chapter of what Paramount+ is calling Yellowstone‘s “origin story” — which began with the wildly popular 1883 prequel spinoff — will introduce viewers to a new generation of the series’ central family, the Duttons. Through them, per an official description, the series will “explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.

Roger Moore turned 58 while he was shooting his seventh James Bond feature "A View to a Kill." He'd already huffed and puffed his way through action sequences in his previous 007 effort, "Octopussy," but he looked downright spent in this Summer of 1985 offering. It was time for Moore to hand over his Walther pistol, but replacing him would be no small feat. Having occupied the role for 12 years (three more than Sean Connery), Moore had come to exemplify the role for an entire generation, most of whom were born after Ian Fleming had published his final Bond novel. For this cohort, his suave, yet silly characterization was what Bond was supposed to be.
The transition to a new Bond was further complicated by the overall crappiness of "A View to a Kill." From the snowboarding set piece (scored to the chintziest version of "California Girls" ever recorded) to the limp airship...

So she dug up an old photo of her and Sean Connery for inspiration so she can be “the Bond girl I never got to be” while performing a rumba. Elegant! “That was your best dance,” said judge Hough, who was particularly impressed with the graceful way she held her arms.

60 years later, 25 films, six James Bond actors, and one martini “shaken, not stirred.” It wouldn’t be a Bond film without its iconic Bond women, incredible stunts, gadgets, gizmos, and villains who all graced the silver screen since 1962 with Sean Connery’s portrayal of Bond in the classic film Dr. No.
British author Ian Fleming created the character of James Bond in 1953 in a series of 12 books and two short collections which would go on to be one of the most celebrated franchises in movie history.
007 has seen six actors step into the role of Bond over the decades. Sean Connery portrayed the original bond in Dr. No and would appear in seven more films. George Lazenby would only appear in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, followed by Roger Moore in Live and Let Die, and he would also take on the role of Bond in seven films.

“Dancing with the Stars” will get shaken, not stirred, when it celebrates Bond Night on Monday’s episode.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the release of the first James Bond film, “Dr. No,” the top 14 will perform to Bond theme songs on Week 3. But you won’t hear one notable tune: Adele‘s “Skyfall” from the 2012 film of the same name and the first Bond theme to win the Best Original Song Oscar. The subsequent two Oscar-winning themes, Sam Smith‘s “Writing on the Wall” from 2015’s “Spectre” and Billie Eilish‘s title track to last year’s “No Time to Die,” will be represented on the show.
And with the moody nature of most of the tracks, you will not be shocked to learn that there will be lots of rumbas — eight of them, to be exact. Definitely a missed opportunity not to make it 007.

At long last, all 25 James Bond films will be available for streaming in one place, with the entire 007 franchise officially landing on Amazon Prime Video starting next week on October 5.
For years due to various rights issues, the Bond movies were scattered across numerous disparate streaming services and never all in one place, with some — namely a couple of the Daniel Craig entries — being especially tricky to track down for streaming. As part of the 60th anniversary celebration for Bond, but also in no small part thanks to Amazon’s acquisition of MGM earlier this year, that’s finally changing, and Bond fans now have access to all the films as included with a Prime Video subscription.
However, Amazon specifies that the films will only be available “for a limited time,” and that includes subscribers in the U.S. but also the U.K., Australia, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico/Latin America (excluding Brazil), Spain,...

The inaugural London Action Festival had its opening night at the Royal Geographical Society (Rgs) on Thursday 28th July. The evening featured a screening of Die Hard (celebrating its 35th birthday) followed by an in-person interview with its director John McTiernan, and live music from actor/Die Hard co-star Robert Davi, who is also a professionally trained opera/jazz singer.
Davi performed four songs with his band, including Frank Sinatra’s That’s Life and You Make Me Feel So Young followed by Roger Miller’s King of the Road, before finishing with festive belter Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
After rousing the crowd, Davi was interviewed by film journalist Ian Nathan, during which he reminisced about his early acting days; appearing in his first film, Contract on Cherry Street (1977), with Frank Sinatra, and relocating to Florida after 45 years in LA.

The Asian Cinema Fund, a bursary scheme for film and documentary projects operated alongside the Busan International Film Festival, has announced six Korean recipients and seven hailing from elsewhere in Asia. The fund was put on hiatus during the two years of Covid, which also reduced the festival in size and turned the Asian Contents & Film Market into a virtual event. Three winners – “In the Land of Brothers,” by Raha Amirfazali, “Life I Stole,” by Putri Purnama Sugua and “Smart City,” by Rohin Raveendran – each receive KRW10 million for script development and are invited to participate in the Acfm’s Asian Project Market. Three films currently in post-production — “Birth,” by Yoo Jiyoung, “Juhee from 5 to 7,” by Jang Kunjae and “Mariam,” by Arvind Pratap — will receive in-kind support for digital intermediates, Dcp production, sound mixing and sub-titling, and are expected to premiere as finished works at the Busan festival.

From the release of "Dr. No" in 1962, all the way through "Licence to Kill" in 1989, a new film in the James Bond series came around every other year or so. The British spy hero was a steady and constant reminder of a certain kind of masculine ideal, as well as a way to fictionally assert power over England's (as well as America's) enemies during the Cold War; the antagonists of James Bond movies were typically...

While Daniel Craig’s celebrated extended occupancy as star of the James Bond franchise has come to a poetic end with the recent release of No Time to Die, conversations about his replacement are rampant. Yet, with the field of candidates being more demographically open than previous vacancies, speculators might overlook the possibility of a more conventional—white and British—Bond, like, say, superstar Henry Cavill. Thus, the arrival of a deepfake video with Cavill swapped in as Bond is opening some eyes.
Deepfake/VFX artist StryderHD has provided a simulation of sorts for a prospective Henry Cavill James Bond tenure with a new video that places The Witcher and Man of Steel star into 1987 outing The Living Daylights over the countenance of Timothy Dalton. Indeed, the video—which further cements the eerily-realistic nature of shockingly-accessible, rapidly-improving deepfake technology—effectively demonstrates how seamless of an aesthetic transition the role of Bond would be for Cavill.

At long last, it's time to "Die." Factoring in coronavirus delays, this ties the longest gap between Bond films, from "License to Kill" to "GoldenEye," at six years. The wait has made "No Time To Die" both sarcastic and momentous. Daniel Craig is hanging up his Walther. For the first time ever, ad spots are hinting at an end, calling Bond #25 no less than an "epic conclusion." Whoever shows up at the end of the gun barrel next, they won't be taking aim anytime soon.
But there are alternatives -- 24 of them come to mind most obviously. There's a Bond film for every...

Controversial Brit actor Laurence Fox says he has been “uncanceled” after being cast in a feature film that will see him play Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden.
Robert Davi of License To Kill and Die Hard acting fame is directing the pic, which comes from conservative Irish producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney (Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer). The project has a $1.8M budget and will shoot in Serbia in late October for four weeks, a release stated.
My Son Hunter will be primarily set in the Ukraine, the filmmakers said. Last year, Hunter Biden found himself at the center of a Donald Trump-propelled conspiracy theory that he and Joe Biden had engaged in corrupt activities; accusations that were denied and debunked.
Fox has become a figurehead for the ‘anti-woke’ right-wing in the UK. Earlier this year he undertook an ill-fated campaign to become the next mayor of London,...

After taking their No Time to Die title to heart and moving the new 007 adventure from April 2020 to November 2020, and then to April 2021 and now back to the fall of this year, Eon Productions and MGM appear adamant: the 25th James Bond movie will be coming out this year, meeting its September and October release dates. This article contains Tenet spoilers.
Throughout the Daniel Craig era of James Bond, the influence of Christopher Nolan has been hard to miss. A year after Nolan reinvented Dark Knight mythology with Batman Begins, and created the industry term of a “reboot” in the process, 007 had his own back-to-basics reset in Casino Royale. And following The Dark Knight’s praise for reconfiguring its iconography again for a post-War on Terror world, Skyfall would receive similar acclaim a few years later for its chilly, realpolitik tone.
But no matter how many developments in the Bond canon end up attributed to Nolan’s influence, it should be recognized that Bond influenced him first. That fact is almost inescapable after watching Tenet, which just premiered on HBO Max. It’s the filmmaker’s latest time-bending thriller, and the one that most resembles a 007 flick. With its smoothly dressed secret agent hero, its allusions to British intelligence,...

When Licence to Kill came out in the summer of 1989, it, unfortunately, marked the end of Timothy Dalton's tenure as James Bond. A significant delay involving behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing meant a proposed third Dalton film, The Property of a Lady never got off the ground, and when they were finally ready to return to the franchise, he'd moved on. This opened the door for Pierce Brosnan to step in and reclaim the part that was very nearly his in 1987, in what would be his…...

In 1987, Timothy Dalton made his big-screen debut as James Bond in the well-received The Living Daylights. The film was a box-office hit, and critics and audiences alike praised his darker take on the character. In 1989, the second Dalton 007 outing, Licence to Kill was released, but this time, many thought they’d taken the character too far into the darkness with its grounded tale of drug lords and revenge. The film underperformed dramatically at the U.S box office. Nevertheless,…...

By the time No Time to Die finally hits theaters in April, five and a half years will have passed since the release of Spectre, which marks the longest gap between James Bond movies in over a quarter of a century since fans waited six years between Timothy Dalton’s License to Kill and Pierce Brosnan’s Goldeneye.
It also comfortably sets a record for the most time between projects starring the same actor in the lead role, with no other incumbent of the tux waiting any longer than three years for another adventure. Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007 has faced several delays as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, of course, and while audiences will be hoping that No Time to Die is more than worth it in the end, from almost the second it fades to black, the rumor mill surrounding his replacement will kick into overdrive.
