Stars: Natalie Burn, Vinnie Jones, Daryl Hannah, Edward Furlong, Jason London, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Christa Campbell, David Keith, Michael Copon, Daz Crawford, Augie Duke, Benny Urquidez | Written by Mark Atkins, Natalie Burn, Ryan Priest | Directed by Mark Atkins
What makes distributors think that joe public will grab any Vinnie Jones movie off the supermarket shelf sight unseen? The man isn’t exactly the bastion of quality direct to market movies these days (have you seen the godawful Kill Kane?) Thankfully I took a look at the rest of the credits for Left To Die and it was those that sold me on buying this gem of a film on iTunes, Not Mr. Jones… After all, just look at that cast: Daryl Hannah, Edward Furlong, Jason London, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Christa Campbell, David Keith and there’s even a cameo by Benny “The Jet” Urquidez – a veritable who’s who of Dtv megastars!

With The Raid 2 arriving in UK cinemas too, James wants a word about violent movies...
The Raid 2 is now out in cinemas. I really recommend that you go and see this film. In fact, I urge you to stop whatever you're doing right now and head directly to the nearest movie theatre so that you can experience it immediately. True, it may not be showing for several hours, but that just means you'll get there early and that would be ideal. You're going to need time to settle into your seat and get comfortable before the carnage unfolds.
Still here? Get up, get out and go see The Raid 2. I am mentally slapping you across the face (with a dash of silat martial arts style) as I write this in the hope that I can telekinetically shock some sense into you...

It's awesome the amount of brawn is working over brain in The Legend of Hercules, the latest sword-and-sandals actioner - Sure, that's still a genre - which just so happens to be directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, The Long Kiss Goodnight). Harlin is a man who made similarly brawn-over-brain actioners all through the 1990's, movies which hit that awesome meter pretty much throughout. Now he makes WWE movies. Unfortunately what hobbles the enjoyment in The Legend of Hercules is not the action, but how awkwardly and lazily the movie rips off other, better films. It's just a lame knockoff of 300, Gladiator, and Braveheart, and no amount of chest meat Kellan Lutz puffs out can distract us from that. More below! Lutz plays the mythical half-man, half-God son of Zeus, birthed to Queen Alcmene (Roxanne McKee) and King Amphitryon (Scott Adkins). Pay attention. There's gonna be a test, but it's multiple choice.

The Weinstein Company and Warner Bros.' dispute over "The Butler" added another wrinkle late on Friday as the MPAA approved the former's use of the title "Lee Daniels' The Butler" for the upcoming film.
The Wrap appeared to break the news, followed closely by THR and Deadline.com. All industry publications had been following the story -- which sent Harvey Weinstein himself to the airwaves to put pressure on Warner Bros. and the MPAA -- for the duration of the conflict. The dispute centered on Warner Bros.' claim that a 1916 short film of the same name should be enough to prohibit TWC from using the words "The Butler" in the title for a new movie (more information on the original complaints and rulings below.)

Not only is Latino-Review.com getting into the movie making business but the digital comic book publishing business as well.
Check out below the Hot cover to our first comic book by dope artist Mark Alvarado (who is absolutely Crushing it for us) called Praetorian, the official prequel comic book which leads into Breakneck.
What is Praetorian? Back in the day during the Roman Empire, the Praetorian Guard were a special force of skilled and celebrated troops serving as the personal guard of Roman Emperors. You seen them in movies like Gladiator. Many of our Tier One Operators in the armed services like Seal Team Six aka Devgru are considered a modern day Praetorian Guard.
Being a huge G.I. Joe comic book fan growing up as a kid, my interest in Black Ops and Tier One Operators continue to this day with such comic books as Nathan Edmonson’s excellent The Activity.

The battle between Warner Bros. and The Weinstein Company over the "The Butler" took another turn on Wednesday when director Lee Daniels sent a letter to Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara requesting that the studio back off from its attempt to force "The Butler" to change titles.
"I have spent the last four years of my life working on the film, 'The Butler,' and it is the proudest moment of my professional career. I am heartbroken as I write this letter to you," Daniels wrote in the letter, which was provided to Deadline.com and also The Hollywood Reporter. "If we were to change the title a mere six weeks before we open, it would most certainly hurt the film by limiting the number of people who would ultimately see this important story."

The Weinstein Company has set Aug. 16 to release "The Butler," Lee Daniels' historical drama about a White House staffer (Forest Whitaker) who served through eight administrations. Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, John Cusack, Jane Fonda, Alan Rickman, James Marsden, Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and David Oyleowo all star in "The Butler," a title that may very well find itself among films mentioned for the 2014 Oscar race. Unless it changes titles.
According to Deadline.com, Warner Bros. has begun attempts to prevent The Weinstein Company from calling Daniels' film "The Butler" when it's released next month. The issues stems from the fact that Warner Bros. has a film in its library with the same title. HuffPost Entertainment reached out to TWC for comment on the title fight, but has not yet received a response.
As Deadline.com notes, the tangle mostly amounts to a high-stakes example of gamesmanship between the two studios.

The trouble with biopic is that, for the most part, the real life story of the big name doesn’t fit into any kind of cinematic format that we have become accustomed to over the years, and there seems to be a rule that the further back the setting, the more creative license can be employed. Historians may scream blue murder, educated audiences may turn up their nose, but a necessity of storytelling is spinning a decent yarn; hence Titanic, hence Gladiator, hence Braveheart. Approach such material with the perspective of ‘historical fiction’ and chances are you’re going to enjoy the drama of proceedings much more than, say, the damp squib loyalty to fact at the expense of dynamism of this year’s Hitchcock. Taking plenty of liberties but providing a fresh dose of excitement and intrigue to the...

Gruel-requesting, Fagin-following scamp Oliver Twist is heading back to the big screen with Sony fast-tracking a 'reimagining' of the Charles Dickens character and his pickpocketing pal, the Artful Dodger, in Dodge And Twist. Set 20 years after Dickens left them in various states of gladness and misfortune, screenwriter Cole Haddon's tale promises adventure and more of the kind of criminal activity that made the Dodger such a fixture on Her Maj's most-wanted list. The two characters are found on opposite sides of the law and a plot is afoot to unburden the Queen of her crown jewels. The Hollywood Reporter highlight Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes movies as a reference point for the combination of snap and crackle that Sony and Monsterfoot Productions are looking for from this adaptation of Ahmet Zappa's idea. Before we crack open the recapping on a new season of Spartacus: War of the Damned, permit me just a brief moment to pause, reflect, and remember the fallen hottie who has been lost to us. Yes, I eulogize you, Gaius Hottius Glaber, sexiest stud in all of Capua. Woe betide those, like me, who will not have your magnificent buns of steel to obsess over during this new season of mayhem, evisceration, decapitation, de-limbing, de-legging, de-kidneying, and manly bonding. And please, my fellow mourners, let our sadness only be salved by the fact that there are those amongst who have taken glorious screencaps of beautiful Gaius’ most electrifying on-screen moments, so that we may relive them over and over (and over and over and over.) Let us be thankful that, on the internet, the past truly never dies (does it, Manti Te’o?). Amen, praise to Jupiter, Isis, and whoever.

While hand-drawn, two-dimensional animation is now seen as slightly archaic in the west, it's still the foundation of Japanese animation, where it looks anything but – usually because it's used to render fantastic and futuristic tales that make ours look timid. Added to which, they're invariably gorgeous to look at. There are strange lands, mystical creatures and flamboyantly long titles to explore in this biennial weekend round-up, such as Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below by Makoto Shinkai, or the latest spin-off from the hugely successful series, Full Metal Alchemist 2: Sacred Star Of Milos (followed by a Q&A with the director). A Letter To Momo captures the spirit of classic Studio Ghibli productions such as My Friend Totoro, while Ghibli's own From Up On Poppy Hill is a fantasy-free coming-of-age story set in 1964 Yokohama, and Oblivion Island shows what they can do with computer animation.

After last week’s lesson in the dangers of playing with matches, the latest edition of Spartacus: Vengeance opens with a series of reunions, ranging from very happy to mildly happy to really completely not-so-happy, all caused by Spartacus and crew returning victorious from bringing down the arena in Capua.
Happy reunion: everyone’s favorite new gay power couple, Agron and Nasir, get all smoochy and sweet when Agron returns from Capua (take that, David and Neil Patrick!).
Mildly happy reunion: Crixus and Naevia have their big moment when they reunite, but signs indicate that there may be trouble ahead.
Really completely not-so-happy reunion: Gannicus waits patiently by Oenomaus’ bedside, hoping he recovers enough so they can talk, but not enough so that Oenomaus can kick his well-deserving derriere up and down the mountainside.
Gannicus, of course, is proving to be the proverbial muscled-up, hunky fly in the ointment. Back...

Cave Of Forgotten Dreams (U)
(Werner Herzog, 2010, Can/Us/Fra/Ger/UK) 90 mins
Herzog's perceptive, musically accented voiceovers have become a trademark of his documentaries, but he's practically humbled into silence here by the world's oldest art gallery – or was it a cinema? Recently discovered, and unlikely to be seen by any of us for real, these 35,000-year-old cave paintings are a sight to behold, and Herzog wisely lets them speak for themselves, in fully justified 3D. We are given some insight into the history and the difficulties of filming, plus a few vintage Herzog musings (radioactive albino crocodiles!), but primarily, this puts us in the position of our supposedly primitive ancestors, gazing in awe at things we barely comprehend.
The Eagle (12A)
(Kevin Macdonald, 2011, Us/UK) Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland. 114 mins
A Roman soldier and his British slave band together in a boys' adventure mixing Gladiator-like action and sober historical bromance.

The latest in a recent wave of period epics, The Eagle stars Channing Tatum as a Roman standard bearer out to regain his honour. Here’s our review…
The year is AD140 and Britain is part of the Roman Empire. Sent there on his first command, young Centurion, Marcus Aquila (Channing Tatum), has a reason to be in the frontier country, as his father was the eagle standard bearer of the fabled Ninth Legion, who, twenty years previously, were lost in the northern lands of Caledonia, and all who served thought to have perished and the eagle, pride of the legion, stolen.
Marcus longs to regain his family's lost honour by making a name for himself, but while defending his fort from attack by the Celts, he is wounded and honourably discharged from the army. Sent to his uncle's estates to recuperate, Marcus feels lost and helpless to ever repair his family's name,...

The Eagle, from director Kevin Macdonald is adapted from The Eagle of the Ninth, a 1954 juvenile historical novel by Rosemary Sutcliff. This thunderous tale of second-century Roman legions and a young man’s quest to discover the fate of his father on the dangerous side of The Roman Wall is the type of square, old-school adventure that is rare in today’s climate of video-game, sensory-overload blockbusters. It is at times an engaging adventure but doesn’t stand out and is marred by some jarringly anachronistic dialogue and a mumble-mouthed performance by its wooden lead. The Eagle is far from terrible, but not terribly inspired.
The Eagle tells the story of young Roman general Marcus (Channing Tatum) who leads a command on a British outpost just south of ‘Hadrian’s Wall’, a defensive fort built by the Romans in England. 20 years earlier, Marcus’ father had led a Legion of 5,000 centurions...

A movie I’m fairly certain I had never heard of until ten minutes ago, Kevin Macdonald’s The Eagle has just received a featurette from Yahoo! Movies. Boasting a strong cast that includes Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong and Tahar Rahim, who gave one of the best performances of last year in A Prophet. It’s got a Gladiator sort of vibe to it, and looks more entertaining than many of the “historical epics” that we’ve seen over the past few years. You can watch the featurette below:
Plot: In 140 Ad, two men – master and slave – venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism…The Roman epic adventure The Eagle stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell and is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald.

After our review of Primeval: Extinction Event we talked to its author, Dan Abnett. Dan is a British comic book writer and novelist, with decades of experience who produces an insane amount of work both solo and with frequent comic writing partner Andy Lanning. He has worked for 2000Ad, Marvel Comics, Marvel UK, DC Comics, Games Workshop, and has recently been releasing original fiction through Harper Collin’s via their Angry Robot imprint.
Hi Dan, I’m Andrew, aka Baron Fortnightly of Blogomatic3000.com, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
First off, what is your origin story? How did you first become a comic book writer and later a novelist?
Dan: I’ve always liked comics, because they combined two of the things I loved to do best as a kid – draw pictures and write stories. I spent a lot of my childhood making my own comics.

Thrillers that appeal to teens, much like Disturbia, are in short supply but high demand. Paramount snapped up a pitch from a writer who knows action and thrills, Robert Mark Kamen who wrote all three Transporter films, all the Karate Kid films, Gladiator and Taken. Yeah, the dude knows how to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
The story is top secret but it's a character based thriller following an early-20s guy and girl. Footloose (the remake) producer Brad Weston will make the film.

Saw VI on DVD doesn't give you enough of the epic scowling you love from Costas Mandylor? This Saturday night on Syfy, Costas Mandylor and his kid brother Louis will be engaging in tag team action against a demonic creature when The Cursed makes its world premiere.
Costas Mandylor stars as Sheriff Jimmy Muldoon, who, along with his young brother, Deputy Lloyd Muldoon (played by Costas' real-life younger sibling Louis), find their cozy Tennessee hometown less than idyllic after a stranger comes to town and supernatural horrors begin. That supernatural horror comes in the form of a wrathful monster man with a scolex mouth, sort of like the "X-Files" Flukeman got mated with the Jeepers Creepers creature.
Josie Davis of "Charles in Charge" fame co-stars as Mrs. Jimmy Muldoon. Also look for James Marshall of "Twin Peaks" and Gladiator (the Cuba Gooding, Jr., underground boxing version, not the Oscar-winning ancient...

Channing Tatum is days away from wrapping on his Roman epic 'The Eagle of the Ninth' in Scotland (the crew was recently spotted near Windyhill Cottage in the village of Altandhu). Thanks to the movie news site Collider.com we have a first look at Chan in what's going to be one of the biggest films in 2010.
Collider.com got a sneak peek at next year's big films at the American Film Market recently, which is where film distributors are given an opportunity to buy the rights for new projects and where currently-in-production films go to find more financing.
Festivals like this have gone very well for the film thus far. 'The Eagle of the Ninth' became a 2009 Cannes Film Festival hit because of its strong script, cast and director and the success of similar productions such as ‘Gladiator’ and the American HBO series “Rome”, starring Scot Kevin McKidd. One of the first things to do when making your movie is figure out who your main character is going to be. Now, you may pick your plot first and then figure what kind of protagonist you want or you may pick your characters and write about what they do – it all depends on your style of writing. In either case, understanding your protagonist(s) is very important since these are the people whom the plot revolves around, who we will come to know and love and who we will follow for the next 120 minutes. They will be our tour guides through your movie so you have...
