Kate Middleton was welcomed with applause at Wimbledon in her first royal engagement since Trooping the Color. She was given a standing ovation as she went to the Royal Box to watch the game.
Kate Looked Stunning In Purple
It’s always fun to see what Princess Catherine wears when she attends Wimbledon. Historically, she always arrives in glamorous attire. This year, like every year, she didn’t disappoint.
She looked stunning in a lovely purple dress from British brand Safiyaa. She embellished her outfit with gold hoop earrings from By Pariah and a thick gold bangle bracelet from Halycon Days. Last year, Kate attended Wimbledon three times and opted for various shades of green at each appearance.
Princess Charlotte looked equally as stylish as her mother. She sported a navy and white polka dot teen Guess dress and white leather shoes.

Cameron Crowe is the Oscar-winning writer-director who firmly established himself as one of the most distinctive cinematic voices working today, creating comedic dramas about the inherent goodness of people. But how many of his titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back Crowe’s 10 greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1957 in Palm Springs, California, Crowe got his start as a teenage music journalist for “Rolling Stone,” touring with the Allman Brothers when he was just 16 years old. His love for rock bands landed him lucrative interviews with such hot groups as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.
His background in journalism led him to go undercover as a high school student to write a book about the experience of Southern California teenagers that would later become the film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), which he also wrote the screenplay for. He made his directorial debut seven...

You can’t blame Bill Pullman for feeling hesitant about taking on the lead role in Lifetime’s two-part limited series Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.
It’s not that the SAG-nominated actor was worried about going dark — he’d done so not long ago, and brilliantly, in USA’s The Sinner — he simply just wasn’t aware of the tragic story of South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, who was convicted in 2023 of murdering his wife and son.
“I didn’t know about him!” Pullman revealed during the THR Frontrunners Lifetime Showcase held June 6 at San Vicente Bungalows in Los Angeles. “Then I asked the people in my life about the case, and they said, ‘Oh, I hate that guy!’ I thought, ‘Ok this is a nonstarter.'”

It's hard for fans who remember the original NBC airing of Friends to believe, but "The One Where The Show Turns Thirty" is almost here.
Friends was a ratings juggernaut from its 1994 premiere and ended its ten-year run with the fourth most-watched series finale in television history.
That would have been an impressive note for any show to go out on, but Friends went on to enjoy a charmed (and lucrative) afterlife in syndication for another decade before becoming a recent surprise hit with a whole new generation on Netflix.
So why haven't we seen another sitcom make a similar impact in the past thirty years?
Friends was a reflection of its specific cultural moment, which also laid the foundation for our current comedic landscape, and there hasn't been an equivalent upheaval since.
Friends Is a Victim Of Its Influence

Ned Benson’s sophomore feature, The Greatest Hits, is a romantic drama following a young woman who travels back in time anytime she hears a song to the last time and place she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a charming film with an incredible soundtrack that will delight any musicophile, not that you would expect any less.
We at FandomWire spoke with Benson and the film’s composer, Ryan Lott (frontman of Son Lux and Oscar nominee for his work on Everything Everywhere All at Once), about their work on the film. Keep reading to find out what they had to say.
The Greatest Hits Interview
In The Greatest Hits, more so than many other films driven by music, the soundtrack essentially functions as a character. We asked the team behind the film where the song choices came into play — whether it was during the writing process or later in production.

A light comedy with a touch of social commentary and a stellar cast, “Familyhood” is a work by the young South Korean director Kim Tae-gon who has a background in indie and horror films. It was very well received in South Korea and it probably marked a turning point in his career. In fact, his latest work “Project Silence”, starring the late Lee Sun-Kyun, premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and is one of the most anticipated films of 2024.
The story focuses on the character of Go Joo-yeon (Kim Hye-soo), a beautiful and rich actress/diva who is reaching what in show business is considered a critical age, close to the career “sunset”, i.e. her forties. Go continues to work, having not yet faced any blatant failure to secure parts in films and advertisings; however, her fame as an actress is gradually being concealed by her reputation as a...

New Delhi, Aug 24 (Ians) American tennis player John Isner has announced on social media that he will retire after playing at this year’s US Open. His 17th consecutive appearance in his home major will be his last.
The 38-year-old at Flushing Meadows will draw to a close his illustrious career, during which he has won 16 Atp Tour titles, 488 tour-level matches and competed in the Atp Finals (in 2018).
“There comes a time in every athlete’s career that they have to decide to hang it up. For me, that time is now. I didn’t come to this decision lightly, but I feel it is the right way to go. When I left the University of Georgia in 2007, there was no way I could have imagined playing 17 years on the Atp Tour.
“Of course, there are countless matches I wish I could have back, but I am proud of what I was able to accomplish.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe has had a fascinating career trajectory and is responsible for some of the most beloved coming-of-age stories ever put to screen. His feature screenwriting debut came with the groundbreaking teen film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," shortly followed by the massively influential "Say Anything..." and "Singles." Crowe has a knack for capturing the human condition with so much reverence for people doing their best to make it through life and making audiences feel validated in ways they never thought possible.
For many folks, Crowe had finally "made it" after the success of "Jerry Maguire," the endlessly quotable romantic sports dramedy now better known for its VHS copies dominating every thrift store in America. However, real ones know that Crowe's masterpiece would come many years later with "We Bought A Zoo." Just kidding, it's obviously "Almost Famous," a near-perfect film (just edit out the non-consensual post-od kiss!

Here’s some potentially happy news: none other than Cameron Crowe is planning a return to features with him potentially signing on to direct a Joni Mitchell biopic. The scoop comes via Jeff Sneider at Above the Line. Crowe hasn’t directed in many years after suffering a huge flop with Aloha, the movie that infamously cast Emma Stone as (part) Asian. He went on to make Showtime’s underrated series Roadies, but it only lasted one season. A Joni Mitchell biopic would be an ideal movie for Crowe, bringing him back to the seventies music milieu of Almost Famous.
It helps that Crowe is long-time friends with Mitchell, going back to Crowe’s famous days as a boy reporter for Rolling Stone. Crowe has interviewed her many times (here’s a recent one commemorating the anniversary of her album Blue) and is frequently seen at her side when she makes infrequent public appearances.

Amy Heckerling's 1982 film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," written by Cameron Crowe, is a coming-of-age film that contains far more embarrassment and ambivalence about the teen experience than any expected notes of wistful nostalgia. The Ridgemont High students don't always make good decisions and find themselves stumbling toward sexual liberation and an adult sense of agency. They are trying to achieve some sense of dignity, which is difficult when your sexual encounters are mortifying and you have to wear stupid costumes to your minimum-wage job. They're not good kids or bad kids. They're complete people. It's the film's sense of emotional honesty that likely has it firmly ensconced in the pop consciousness. Its comedic moments are but icing on the cake.

Forget conquering hills, Kate Bush's 1985 song "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" has been climbing the charts since it turned up as Max's favorite song in "Stranger Things" season four - and now, it's breaking records. "Stranger Things" has been utilizing classic '80s songs since the series began, but "Running Up That Hill" has resonated with fans on a whole new level that even the famously private Bush can't ignore.
But it wasn't easy to get the song on the show. A group of Warner Music executives spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how they landed the "Running Up That Hill" deal in an Aug. 22 interview. "It's not like advertising where we get a very quick 'Can we use this song?' and we have to work out if we can and if they can afford it," said Tim Miles, senior VP sync for the UK...

One of the most popular holiday songs of all time is being legally challenged by a country music songwriter who claims copyright infringement over “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Mariah Carey and co-writer Walter Afansieff are named in the lawsuit by songwriter Andy Stone, who claims his “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Vince Vance & the Valiants from 1989 is being infringed. Stone filed his papers in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
While the songs have the same title, there is only a hint of Carey’s melody or lyrics beyond the title call-out.
Carey’s version of the song came out in 1994 and has become a holiday staple on radio, streaming, and the NBA’s annual slate of games on Christmas Day.
Stone claims his song received extensive airplay during the 1993 holiday season. He is asking for 20 million in damages.

At a certain point in the 1980s, there was no bigger movie star than Matt Dillon. Exploding into the cultural stratosphere with a trio of popular S.E. Hinton film adaptations, the young actor transitioned from heartthrob to dynamic leading man in the space of a decade. Roles in Gus Van Sant’s masterful Drugstore Cowboy, Cameron Crowe’s Singles, and Tim Hunter’s The Saint of Fort Washington followed, each one wildly different from the other.
Thirty years later, Dillon finds himself at the Telluride Film Festival as the director of the breezy, illuminating documentary El Gran Fellove, which tells the story of Francisco Fellove Valdés, the underappreciated Cuban scat singer and showman. The film also highlights the “Feeling” Movement that came out of Cuba in the 1940s, a jazz-inspired musical shift of which Fellove was essential. The musician––like many Cuban artists––would soon move to Mexico, where he found an abundance of success.

Gary LeMel, a longtime president of music at Warner Bros. Pictures whom the Los Angeles Times once called “the father of the compilation soundtrack album,” died July 6 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 80.
Film agent Richard Kraft called him “a true giant in the film music industry.” Songwriters Hall of Fame member Steve Dorff described LeMel as “an amazing music man (and) a true friend who made an indelible contribution to my career.” Tom Sturges, a former top exec at Universal Music and other publishing companies, called him “one of the great music execs in the film business, ever. He treated me with the greatest respect at every meeting, took every call and listened to every song and artist I pitched him. Truly one of a kind.”
LeMel’s wife of almost 47 years, Maddy LeMel, a visual artist, told Variety she was staggered by the amount of testimonials coming in.

Beyond just the standard trailer(s) and poster, many films have an entire promotional campaign designed to spark interest. Here’s a look at ten film promotional campaigns which should have stayed on the drawing board.
Selling a movie is not an easy task, and over the years it has not gotten any easier. Promotional campaigns have to be very creative and persistent in order to capture people’s attention amid the sea of advertising we are flooded with on a daily basis. Common tactics include giveaways, publicity stunts, viral marketing techniques, sponsorships, and product tie-ins. Many films try to push the boundaries of traditional promotional campaigns in an effort to get an edge on the competition. Below is a brief look at ten campaigns (in no particular order) which definitely pushed the envelope, but doing so did more harm than good for the films they were trying to promote.

By the time Cameron Crowe made Singles in 1992, the 35-year-old director was already a decade into his career's second act. A former journalist for Rolling Stone, he'd pivoted towards the movies after adapting his book about going undercover at a Los Angeles high school – Fast Times at Ridgemont High – for the screen in 1982. And his directorial debut, Say Anything... (1989), proved that he had a knack for capturing teen spirit.
Crowe, however, wanted his audience to grow up with him, so for his follow-up movie, he turned his attention to twentysomethings.

Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, tragically committed suicide after playing a show in Detroit, Michigan at the Fox Theater according to The Independent. As a member of Soundgarden, he helped usher along an era of music that helped rid the music world of some of the pretensions and phoniness the music industry and built at that particular time. With his work in Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave, his legacy in the music industry will never be forgotten.
One aspect of his career that doesn't get much publicity is his work in film. With music in such films as Singles, Wayne's World, and Benny and June, his music helped fill the soundtrack of the movies of the 90's. One song he did, You Know My Name, helped usher in the modern era of James Bond as the lead in for Casino Royale.
The song itself is an underrated Bond movie classic theme.

Much like David Lynch’s Fire Walk With Me, Cameron Crowe’s Singles is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and also like Fire Walk With Me, the Singles soundtrack is getting a special vinyl reissue in honor of that milestone. According to Consequence Of Sound, there will be double-cd and triple-lp editions, with both including the 13 tracks that are normally on the Singles soundtrack plus 18 bonus demos and instrumentals. It’ll also include “Touch Me I’m Dick,” the song by the movie’s fictional grunge band Citizen Dick—a.k.a. Singles star Matt Dillon and most of Pearl Jam.
It doesn’t sound like any of this has been officially announced, as Consequence Of Sound got the news from an Amazon UK listing, but it’ll supposedly be available on February 17.

Three years ago, Lars Von Trier released his five-hour drama “Nymphomaniac,” about a woman who recounts her erotic experiences to a man who saved her from a beating, to great critical acclaim. Now, he returns with a new film “The House That Jack Built,” which follows highly-intelligent serial killer Jack over a span of 12 years as we see the murders that define his development, and how he views his murders as artwork itself. Deadline reports that Von Trier has cast actor Matt Dillon as Jack alongside the previously announced Bruno Ganz.

On Monday, July 26, famed rock producer, manager, and lyricist Sandy Pearlman died at the age of 72. His Wikipedia page says he "was the recipient of 17 gold and platinum records." He managed that despite not actually producing many bands, or even albums -- but he left a big imprint on every one he worked on.
Born in Rockaway (Queens), NY in 1943, he got a college degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook on Long Island in 1966.
A year later, still in the Stony Brook area, he recruited a band so he could have a series of science-fiction poems he'd written (the Imaginos saga, about a group secretly controlling world history) set to music and performed. He named the band Soft White Underbelly after Winston Churchill's epithet for Italy, but changed its name to Oaxaca after Soft White Underbelly got a negative review at a big concert.

Cameron Crowe has all the bona fides — let's get that out of the way right up front. His backstory as a music journalist is legendary, he has more and better stories about rock 'n' roll than you will ever have and among his many films are two that stand out for music fans as cutting right to the emotional bone of why they even listen in the first place — Singles and Almost Famous. And, yes, he did Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Say Anything, which also were fueled by music and, well, other fine films as well.

"The music is good. And you meet some great people."
That line, uttered by Carla Gugino in the first trailer for Showtime's "Roadies," essentially sums up the drama created by Cameron Crowe. The writer/director returns to his "Almost Famous" roots to depict the lives of the crew supporting a fictional band.
The roadies are the people who build the stage, set up the lighting and sound, and keep the equipment in good shape so that the band can make musical magic.
"Roadies" stars Gugino, Luke Wilson, Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Luis Guzman as eclectic crew members who form an unconventional, but tight-knit family, with all the squabbling, shenanigans, and genuine warmth that entails.
Crowe hasn't made a well-received movie in awhile, but perhaps he will receive the acclaim he had earlier in his career with this "Almost Famous"/"Singles" mashup.
The series debuts Sunday, June 26 on Showtime.

There was a time, surely, when Singles must have felt pretty fresh. It was keyed into a time and place that has all but been enshrined as one the late twentieth century's great creative meccas (early 90s Seattle), and its young creative talent (most notably Cameron Crowe, who was between Say Anything and Jerry Maguire) was working in a form that had not yet ripened into insufferable cliché. Just how well that will translate to the present will vary from viewer to viewer, but on the whole, Singles retains its virtues, if more so as a time capsule than as a romantic comedy.
