Prolific actress Sally Field has returned to the world of social media, saying Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has restored her hope after Donald Trump used the digital platforms as “public toilet paper.”
“I’ve not been on social media,” the two-time Oscar winner said in a post on Instagram made prior to the weekend. “Not since it became public toilet paper for our former crook of a President.” She added, referencing Michelle Obama‘s words at the Democratic National Convention, “But ‘hope is making a comeback.’ So here I am. This is me. And this is my dog, Dash. Buckle up.”
In a follow-up post made two days ago, the Norma Rae star is shown in front of the television, which depicts MSNBC‘s coverage of Kamala Harris’ DNC speech. “Hope is here. Right in the room with me and my 18-year-old newly registered to vote grandson,” she wrote...

Sally Field is in talks to star in “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” a film adaptation of the novel by Shelby Van Pelt.
Netflix has acquired the project, which is in early stages of development. Olivia Newman, the filmmaker of last summer’s sleeper hit “Where the Crawdads Sing,” is directing the movie. “Where the Crawdads Sing,” starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, was based on the best-selling novel by Delia Owens and grossed $144 million at the global box office. Newman is also co-writing the screenplay with John Whittington.
Netflix declined to comment.
“Remarkably Bright Creatures,” Van Pelt’s debut novel, was released in 2022 and became a best-seller. The story follows a lonely widow’s unlikely friendship with a giant octopus. After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she begins working the night shift as a janitor at a local aquarium. Writer-director Fede Alvarez talks exclusively about his new film, Alien: Romulus and his handmade approach to its making.
Alien may be a 45 year-old franchise by now, bearing the fingerprints of such filmmakers as Ridley Scott, James Cameron and David Fincher, but Uruguayan director Fede Alvarez has taken a distinctly personal approach to making the upcoming Alien: Romulus.
Echoing his first two feature films, Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe (2016), Alien: Romulus places a small group of youngsters in a claustrophobic scenario and lets the horror play out. In this case, six scavengers – among them Cailee Spaeny’s Rain and David Jonsson’s Andy – sneak onto the Renaissance, an abandoned Weyland Yutani station orbiting their backwater planet. Needless to say, they find something toothsome and distinctly unfriendly hiding in the abandoned vessel.
As we met Fede Alvarez in June, we’d just seen a selection of scenes from the film that weighed in at roughly 20 minutes.

To this day, the people who have been fortunate enough to have known Williams personally or worked with him continue sharing stories, with many contributing some recently for a piece in Vanity Fair, including his “Mrs. Doubtfire” co-star Sally Field.
“I never shared this story before,” Field said. “I was in the camper outside of the courtroom where we were shooting the divorce scene. My father had a stroke a couple of years before, and was in a nursing facility. I got a phone call from the doctor saying my father had passed, a massive stroke.”

It’s been ten years since the world lost the legendary Robin Williams, a loving father, kind soul, and gift to stage and screen. Authorities ruled Williams’ death a suicide, leaving audiences, friends, and family stunned by such unfortunate events. According to Williams’ widow, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and had struggled with depression, anxiety, and increasing paranoia. While some say they noticed the gifted actor’s decline, the world remained shocked by his death.
To honor his lasting memory, Vanity Fair spoke with many of Williams’ co-stars, friends, and admirers about their best and most heart-warming memories of Robin, resulting in a touching collection of tributes that could leave you with a smile on your face.
Speaking with Sally Field, who starred alongside Robin in 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire, the actress shared a story about Robin’s reaction to her father’s passing while filming the classic comedy.

Sally Field recently told Vanity Fair that Robin Williams made arrangements for her to leave the “Mrs. Doubtfire” set when her father died during filming. Field had not planned to disrupt the production due to the personal matter, but Williams could tell something was off about his co-star and made director Chris Columbus change the order of filming so that the production could shoot around Field for a day.
“I never shared this story before,” Field said. “I was in the camper outside of the courtroom where we were shooting the divorce scene. When the 2001 Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone arrived on the silver screen, it not only marked the start of Daniel Radcliffe’s acting career and skyrocketing bank balance but also transported audiences into a vibrant and whimsical new realm. But what most people aren’t aware of, are the events that went behind the making of the franchise.

Apple TV+ is releasing what looks to be a chilling new series, just in time for Halloween. According to the streamer, Before is an “an atmospheric, character-driven psychological thriller” about a child psychiatrist and widower who encounters a small boy with a “haunting connection” to his past. Naturally, the lead role is played by the “you look mah-velous” guy.
Yup, Billy Crystal is the star of this dramatic, seemingly creepy show that, judging from the description, seems not so dissimilar from The Sixth Sense, another story of a child psychologist who befriends a child with whom he shares a mysterious connection. But imagine the Bruce Willis part played by someone who seems like he might break into a medley of humorous show tunes at any moment.

The Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling is particularly tough to predict early on because of the complicated system by which the nominees are determined in two stages. First, upwards of 15 members of the branch who attend special screenings cast preferential ballots with the top 10 vote-getters moving on to the second stage (it was a lucky seven till 2021). Those members from the first stage and any other members who either attend screenings of excerpts from these semi-finalists or attest that they have seen them cast preferential ballots and the top five films are nominated; that is up from three in years past. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscars Best Makeup and Hairstyling predictions.).

The ‘90s are back – also in Naima Mohamud’s upcoming “Halima,” produced by Finland’s It’s Alive Films, behind Oscar entry “Euthanizer,” and No-Office Films.
“It was a wild time. The hair! The clothes! I really wanted to go back to when boybands, Tamagotchis and popper pants were all the rage. And Aqua, the greatest ‘90s pop band in the world, [behind] ‘Barbie Girl’!” enthused the director, who used to be “obsessed” with its singer Lene Nystrøm.
“I tried cutting my own bangs and dyeing my hair with food coloring to rock her hairstyle. It didn’t work, of course, and the following months were agony. I got told off for wasting food coloring my mother needed to make Somali dessert halwa.”
In Mohamud’s partly autobiographical “down-to-earth dramedy about loneliness, childhood and conquering your fears” – currently in development and eyeing a 2025 shoot – it will be Halima’s turn to experience such “heartwarming and humorous” misadventures.

The remarkable Robin Williams remains a comedy icon, and even though he is gone, the legacy of his film work lives on. Equally adept at outrageous comedy and sensitive drama, Williams was a one-of-a-kind performer, one whose unique style will likely never be equaled. He tragically died on August 11, 2014.
After success as a stand-up comic and television stardom via “Mork and Mindy,” Williams turned to film and achieved success far beyond what his TV success could have indicated. He won an Academy Award for “Good Will Hunting” (1997), one of four Oscar nominations he earned in his career. Williams also earned two Screen Actors Guild Awards (for 1996’s “The Birdcage” and “Good Will Hunting”) and received nine Golden Globe nominations, winning statues for 1987’s “Good Morning, Vietnam,” 1991’s “The Fisher King,” 1993’s “Aladdin” and 1994’s “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

Jon Landau, the Oscar-winning producer who made the dreams of James Cameron come to life by overcoming extreme logistical challenges to bring the filmmaker’s Titanic and Avatar blockbusters to the big screen, has died. He was 63.
Landau’s son Jamie Landau confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter. He died Friday in Los Angeles after 16-month battle with cancer, a Disney spokesperson said.
A son of producers — his father was an Oscar nominee — the passionate Landau produced films including Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and Dick Tracy (1990) before spending some five years as an executive at Fox, where he oversaw production on Die Hard 2 (1990), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Cameron’s True Lies (1994).
If Cameron had a problem on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s True Lies, he was told by then-Fox Filmed Entertainment head Peter Chernin, “Don’t call me, deal with Jon,” Landau recalled in a 2011 interview.

Grossing over $9.3 billion globally, his movies have always struck a chord with the audience. Famed for his versatility in roles ranging from sci-fi to action-comedy with the likes of Men In Black and Bad Boys being his most celebrated outings, he has, though, contributed much more poignantly to cinema.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” teen star Lisa Jakub marked the Memorial Day holiday by talking to Fox News Digital about her nonprofit organization Mission Flexible, which she founded two years ago to help support veterans suffering from anxiety, depression and more. She linked her work with veterans back to her most famous co-star, the late Robin Williams, revealing she was told after “Mrs. Doubtfire” that Williams always made sure veterans had the chance to be a part of his movies’ film crews.
“So many people have told me that Robin did a lot of work with the veteran population as well, and that he always had production crews hire local veterans to be background actors or things like that on set, which is not something I ever knew about when I worked with him… but I also love that little connection as well,” Jakub told Fox News Digital.

It is a truth foretold that Robin Williamsʼs brilliance burned too bright for it to ever be replicated by any artist who came after him. This goes even for the most gifted of comedians that the industry ever produced, so much so that there have been very few artists who could even scratch the surface of unbridled creativity that Williams innately possessed.
Will Smith, for his part, is no less accomplished than the dozen other musically and comedically gifted actors of Hollywood. Within his filmography, the A-lister has delivered an oeuvre of work that rivals even the most sincere artists in this industry. Ranging from sci-fi to drama to Disney musicals to biographies to buddy comedies, there isnʼt one genre that Will Smith is incapable of mastering.

It’s hard for anyone to hate Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. But the movies featuring the actor would be much different if Harry Potter director, Chris Columbus, had said yes to helm the trilogy. However, Columbus had a bigger fish to fry, and we can’t blame him for passing on Spider-Man.

The child actors from “Mrs. Doubtfire” recently reunited nearly 31 years after the movie’s release for a joint interview on the “Brotherly Love” podcast, where Lisa Jakub revealed that Robin Williams wrote a letter to her school principal when she got expelled for taking time off to star in the blockbuster comedy film (via Entertainment Weekly). Jakub starred in the movie as Lydia Hillard, the eldest daughter of Williams and Sally Field’s characters.
“I got thrown out of high school on ‘Doubtfire,'” Jakub told her costars Matthew Lawrence (who played middle child Christopher) and Mara Wilson. “I’m Canadian. I was attending high school in Canada, then I left for four months to film the movie. We were going to set up this system, pre-internet, where I’d mail my school work back and forth to the school. We did that for a while.”
