Anchor Bay shortly adds to the Stoner movie genre when it releases High School on June 1. The trailer below will be attached to the Universal release American Reunion in about 25 markets this weekend. One part of me eyeballs this and thinks Adrien Brody has certainly veered since his Oscar-winning turn in The Pianist, but the premise does look like a fun Stoner effort and Brody is a convincing crazed weed dealer. While the Harold & Kumar trilogy has been the most popular of recent pot pics, if I had to choose a favorite, the top dog would be Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and I would have to put the unsung but silly 1994 film The Stoned Age in there as a sleeper choice. What’s the best stoner film?...

Before we dive into the first installment of “Now & Then”, I want to just take a few moments to explain exactly what it is. In “Now & Then” movies, both horror and non-horror will be analyzed from the point of view of seeing the film at a younger age and then the point of view of watching it in the present. The movie I have chosen for the first installment is a movie that is very important to me and influenced me immensely growing up the 1996 independent classic Glory Daze from writer/director Rich Wilkes.
Glory Daze is the story of a group of tight knit friends in college who find themselves two days away from graduation. Jack (Ben Affleck) is starting to panic as he starts to contemplate what the future holds for him and begins to worry that the last few years were the high point and everything else...

Hey dudes and dudettes, Junk Food Dinner is back to covet your mellow with an episode dedicated to the 20th of April. We start things off in a time when dudes were dudes and babes were meant to be wormed on in 1994's driving around odyssey The Stöned Age. Next we, like, fly a car through space and then, like, totally fight zombies and horrors from beyond the Canadian galaxy or whatever in the animated adult epic Heavy Metal from 1981. Finally, we get the munchies and scarf some bird so good we turn into a bible thumpin', dope smokin', mutant turkey in the weird one-off Blood Freak from 1972. This is truly our most crescent fresh episode to date!
Please refrain from bogarting this episode, send it to one of your buds!
Side note: Don't worry, we think the idea of doing an episode like this is just as stupid as you do.

There were some reports earlier this year that Marvel was planning to follow up The Avengers with a series of smaller films [1] with modest budgets that focus on lesser known comic book characters. At this point, we've essentially already reached the second or third string of Marvel's stable of superheroes, so these movies would potentially revolve around some pretty obscure characters. Now this week we have confirmation of what may be the first of these smaller movies heading into the early stages of development. According to Deadline New York [2], Marvel has just hired someone to write a script for an Iron Fist movie. Rich Wilkes is the man who will be putting pen to paper for the film, and he is best known for writing the screenplay for Vin Diesel's 2002 actioner xXx. He also co-wrote a number of mid-'90s stoner comedies including Airheads, The Jerky Boys and The Stoned Age.

Questioning Greatness with Adam Rifkin:
Earth’S Premiere Storyteller
We (Bob Rose, me, I?) at the Opinion In A Haystack Department are proud to announce that I (we?) were (was?) given the chance to pick the brain bucket of Hollywood’s supreme philosopher and film-creationist, Sir Adam Rifkin (facebook, twitter, myspace.) He’s the filmmaker responsible for Detroit Rock City, The Chase, The Dark Backward, and, more recently, the award winning Look. I was able to sit down with Mr. Rifkin, in front of our respective computers, and interview him, via email, about a plethora of assorted, varied, diverse, sundry, indiscriminate, and heavily kaleidoscopic ideas.
I originally sent Mr. Rifkin over 3,000 questions, most of which involved very uncomfortable queries about his family lineage, sexual fears, and Laserdisc-replica collection. He answered all of them in full detail, thus passing the interview-qualification-process, which allowed me to send him the 16 questions you will find below.
